TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR has practically finished its box office run and stands at around 128 crore nett which is the second best total of the year and the eighth best post the pandemic if we take the original Hindi content. It should have done better in the Hindi belts did not perform well, especially in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The music was a huge asset for the film which meant it got a run in urban centres due to youth patronage. The collections of the film will be around 41.50 crore nett in Mumbai, 32.25 crore nett in Delhi/UP and 11.75 crore nett in East Punjab. The other circuit to do well was Mysore at 8 crore nett and Rajasthan for a mass circuit is not too bad with 6.50 crore nett.

The overseas collections of the film were $5.1 million and this is disappointing as a film like JUGJUGG JEEYO did $4.58 million while doing 78 crore nett in India. The gap between the films should have been much more in Overseas. The worldwide number for the film will be around 195 crore with 153 crore gross in INDIA and 42 crore from OVERSEAS.

The film continues to do very good business in Kolkata where the film has grossed more than it has in Delhi city despite lesser cinemas. On an average, for Hindi films, Delhi city would be three times of Kolkata.

The film has covered all costs from non theatrical and the theatrical business which is looking to be decent in India and Overseas will be a plus. The film should do a share of of over 15 crore worldwide.

Its likely that the many releases this week has hits its business as screenings reduced at multiplexes to provide space for the new releases. The film will be flirting with the 100 crore nett mark after two weeks but it is too late and this number should have come much earlier. The film has managed to do good business in Delhi city, Gurgaon and Noida and that is about it while other places are average to dull. The plus is that its not fared as badly as some of the other big films and at least the film will be an AVERAGE success.

The film should have been targeting a 25 crore nett plus second week but that will not happen now as there was a drop on the second Friday. The film showed a jump of 70-75% on the second Saturday.

MRS CHATTERJEE VS NORWAY did well on the second day as collections doubled up on Saturday at around 2.50 crore nett taking its two day total to 3.75 crore nett. The film is about trajectory and it remains to see what happens over the next few days and weeks.

The growth on Saturday should ensure that the film holds well on Monday. The film set an opening day record in Norway by a distant mile as it collected more than double of the likes of PADMAAVAT and PATHAAN. The film did well generally in Overseas and the weekend may well be over $800k which is a good number for a film like this.

ZWIGATO is poor as it has grossed around 55 lakhs nett in two days with 20 lakhs nett coming on day one and around 35 lakhs nett coming on day two.

The film continues to driven by the NCR area with the help of a couple of other metros. The NCR area is sure to beat films like GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI and SOORYAVANSHI though it wont beat the latter in Delhi/UP now as business in the state of UP is low.

The let down was the weekend where the business was underperforming due to the Hindi belt circuits not really performing as they should. It did good business in the bigger centres and continued to do so through the week especially NCR where the film has done very well.

The film is unlikely to be a HIT unless the second Friday really surprises and goes above the Thursday business and even then it is a long road ahead for HIT business. But it can be a success as long as the second Friday does not fall a lot. The best performance is in Delhi /UP even though UP is very average.

Again there was a minimal drop from though it was a little more than yesterday as the mass markets holding at low levels on Monday and Tuesday had a fall on Wednesday which is normal for even films collecting well in these markets.

This takes the business of the film to 74.50 crore nett plus and it will close the extended week at a decent 79 crore nett. The holds are good after Monday as the film finds a level after a decent weekend. The film could have done very well if the opening five days were bigger as its difficult to cover ground for a big release if the weekend numbers don't quite do the job.

The second Friday is crucial as if it that hold around the 4 crore nett range, then the film will be a success theatrically. It will be middling business and it depends on how the industry sees this as far as the future of this genre goes.

The film is being driven by solid results in NCR which is leading Delhi/UP to collect more than Mumbai since Monday and this is despite UP being on the weaker side. The collections of the film show that the genre has become much more niche type now. TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR should have a far wider reach than a film like GULLY BOY but ratios of cities like Baroda, Bareilly, Bhopal types are very similar. Pre pandemic this film would be way ahead of GULLY BOY outside the metros even allowing that content is average.

The film must continue to hold for the next 10-12 days and should become an average success theatrically and the second Friday is crucial as it cannot afford to drop to far from its present levels. The contributions from Delhi/UP and East Punjab are best now. Mumbai city and Pune are good also though the circuit is being let down by a low performance of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The issue is Friday was low which means the overall numbers are low but as the drop is not much and there is not much competition, the film should continue to collect for a few weeks.

There is not much appreciation for the film in the Hindi circuits but they have not fallen more than others as Friday saw low collection in Hindi circuits. Also these circuits have also have a few good multiplexes which get the collections.

The film is about Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore as these are the places which will drive going forward. These are also the places where watching films at home post pandemic has become more of a habit. As its these few cities which are the best it is certain that this film would have done much better business pre pandemic. This probably holds true for other films as well.

The six day collections so far are near 65 crore nett and it should be a 77-78 crore nett first week for the film.

This $2.6 million has come over five days while a DRISHYAM 2 collected $2.35 million in three days; also JUGJUGG JEEYO was $2.23 million in the same category.

The best collection of the film were easily in US/Canada which can be called decent while other circuits were low. The film may finish around the $5 million mark which is not good enough for the film.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did fair business over its extended five day weekend of 60 crore nett apprx with the plus being the weekend trend which bought the collections back to Holi holiday levels. The film should have done more but for a film which has nothing much for the mass markets you take these sort of numbers.

They are not good for the film point of view of the cast and budget but its also pretty certain this film would have done much better pre pandemic and it was green lighted before the pandemic but this is the case for most films releasing today. Also nobody would spend this sort of money on the genre today as box office potential is limited.

The film did not push on Sunday but that was always likely as there is no mass appreciation and basically the film is now dependent on around four cities - Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. These places could hold reasonably well from Monday onward but the story outside is not likely to be that good.

The film got a huge thumbs up from the trade in Mumbai so the weekend has been about matching the box office to their reviews. But this never works and you get caught out and above all the industry within knows what is real and what is fake. But sadly it happens repeatedly and has been happening for years.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did well on Saturday as business went back to its first day level due to good collections in the big centres. It was a must for the film to go back to day one levels. The growth was strong all over with metros growing 70-80% while other areas went up around 50% up. The growth was also solid in circuits like CP Berar and CI also as the bigger cities in these circuits did well on Saturday.

The collections on Saturday were 13.75 crore nett and this takes the total of the film to over 45 crore nett in four days with Sunday to come. The issue facing the film will be appreciation as the jumps in many centres have come from low numbers; so, the relative number on Saturday at many places looks low. A Gujarat/Saurashtra is a little over 1 crore on Saturday and more importantly a gentry centre like Chandigarh is only 20 lakhs apprx on Saturday. It can be said that that Saturday is the fourth day so a certain amount of business has been consumed but then business being consumed already is a worry for the future.

The growth on Sunday is mainly from mass centres and here they may not grow as they should so it again puts pressure on the bigger centres to perform if the film is to come out with a solid Sunday. The film has a huge budget which is by far the highest ever for a film of this genre of over 200 crore and the business is not in sync with that. But that was known beforehand that it was always going to struggle in that way due to the changes in cinema post pandemic.

The idea was to do some good or even decent level business theatrically which gives the industry some confidence to keep this genre alive today with cast films and the film has managed to do what it should have on Saturday but the acid test will come on Monday.
