EK VILLAIN had a very good first week grossing 72.65 crore nett which is the second highest first week collection of the year after JAI HO. The film beat HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY which grossed around 68 crore nett.
The first week was very good but it was mainly due to the weekend as collections showed noticeable falls over the weekdays. It was a due to a mixture of things with Ramadan starting on Monday and the film only catering to the youth audience.
The collections maintained best in Delhi/UP and East Punjab with mass belts like CI, Rajasthan, Nizam and Gujarat falling fast on the weekdays. Still the film easily recovered its domestic theatrical cost with just the weekend business and could become a blockbuster film and the biggest hit of the first half of 2014.
----------------
EK VILLAIN is the second super hit film of the year of 2 STATES though it remains to be seen if it becomes the biggest hit of the year till date by crossing the business of 2 STATES. The top grosser of the first half will remain HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY as EK VILLAIN will not go towards the 110 crore nett mark.
The film collected around 3.50 crore nett on its second Friday which is a fairly big drop of 75% from day one. The film benefited from two weak releases otherwise the drop could have been more.
The film should have solid growth on Saturday and Sunday but is unlikely to challenge the second week figures of films like HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY and 2 STATES. The second week business of JAI HO may also be out of reach for EK VILLAIN. The lifetime business of the film may hit 100 crore nett but that remains to be seen.
----------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY grossed around 2 crore nett in week four taking its business to 112 crore nett. The film is now comfortably the biggest grosser of the first half of 2014.
----------------
According to Box Office India trade magazine, HUMSHAKALS collected 4.25 crore in it's second week. This takes it's fourteen day collections to 55.30 crore.

HUMSHAKALS grossed around 51.25 crore nett in its first week. The film had a decent weekend but had a drop of 55% on Monday from and the normal weekday drops.
The weekend saw great business in circuits like Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab but the film held better in the weekdays in places like CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The first week collections are the fifth best of the year after JAI HO, HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY, GUNDAY and 2 STATES.
Overall its a fair first week but the film is dependent on what sort of business it can get over the next 7-10 days or so.
---------------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY grossed 11 crore nett
approx in its third week making it the highest grossing film of the
year till date. The film has now grossed 110 crore nett going past the
108 crore nett of JAI HO.
The film may end the first half of the year as the highest grossing film if EK VILLAIN remains lower and going to that level is a huge ask for EK VILLAIN.
The third week did see a 65% drop in business as compared to the 55% drop in week two but that was mainly due the release of HUMSHAKALS. The film is likely to do an all India distributor share of around 57 crore with Mumbai topping at 20 crore plus.

HUMSHAKALS grossed 4.75 crore nett on Monday which is a drop
of around 55% from Friday. The norm on Monday is around 50% drop from
Friday. The four day total is 40.50 crore nett approx. The week is
looking to be around 51 crore nett. The collections for the first four
days are as follows
Friday - 10,80,00,000
Saturday - 10,70,00,000
Sunday - 14,10,00,000
Monday - 4,75,00,000

Sunday - 14,10,00,000
Monday - 4,75,00,000
TOTAL - 40,35,00,000
The second weekend will be important for the film though it faces
competition from Ek Villian which has become a hot film due to the
music.
------------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY collected around 90 lakhs nett on Monday taking its total to around 6.75 crore nett for the week. It is nearing the business of JAI HO everyday and now stands at 105.75 crore nett compared to 108 crore nett of JAI HO. The collections for the first four days of the second week are as follows.
Friday - 1,20,00,000
Saturday - 1,80,00,000
Sunday - 2,80,00,000
Monday - 90,00,000
TOTAL - 6,70,00,000
The third week should do business around 9-9.25 crore nett which is a drop from second week but still decent as it faced competition from a big release like HUMSHAKALS.

The initial could have been a bit better but to have a 35 crore nett plus figure from the initial it got is very good. The figures are slightly lower than HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY due to single screens where Akshay Kumar has that initial draw. In Mysore the film has collected more than HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY.
There will not be much of a problem covering costs as comedies get a good satellite rate and the film is shot in UK. Hence, there is the rebate of shooting there which will amount to a sizeable amount as the film has production budget of 50 crore plus. Now it will be Monday and Tuesday that will decide where the final theatrical business will end up.
-------------------------
The film could beat JAI HO at the end of the third week but if it does not it is sure to beat in in the fourth weekend. The film has seen a 70% drop in the third weekend compared to 53% in the second weekend due to the release of HUMSHAKALS.
It will be a similar drop in the third week as another major film EK VILLAIN releases which means a 112 crore nett lifetime finish. The final business will be in the same range as Akshay Kumar's HOUSEFULL 2.
Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty proudly enters the 100-cr club

Priya Gupta & Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; June 23, 2014)
AR Murugadoss has done it twice. Akshay Kumar has done it thrice over. Both have entered the 100-cr club with their latest offering Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.
The audience identified with the film's strong patriotic message on how to tackle terrorist sleeper cells. The Akshay-Murugadoss combination has worked, just like the South Indian director's previous combination with Aamir Khan worked in Ghajini (2008).
As for Akshay, well he has had Rs 100-cr successes in Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2 and now, Holiday.

FUGLY did poor business in the first week as it collected around 11.50 crore nett. With a dull weekend and a downward trend over the weekdays, the film had little chance.
The second week has seen a huge reduction of shows and hence, the film will add very little business after its first week. The film fared better in East Punjab and Delhi city than the rest of the country but still collections in these circuits were not good but just about decent.
Mumbai, CP Berar, Nizam/Andhra and West bengal saw very poor collections. Infact Mumbai which is normally at least 150% of Delhi/UP had similar first week figures to Delhi/UP. Both collected in the 3 crore nett range.
------------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY had very good second week with
business around the 30 crore nett mark taking its two week business to
around 99.05 crore nett. The collections are by far the biggest for week two in 2014 as no other film has even gone above 25 crore nett. In the all time list it is the eleventh highest second week collections ever which puts its amongst some of the most public appreciated films of the last few years.
------------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY is around the 100 crore nett mark after fifteen days as it collected 1.20 crore nett on its third Friday. The 100 crore mark is no big deal for these big films today.
The real target is the business of JAI HO which then could make it the biggest grosser of the first half of 2014 depending on the final business of HUMSHAKALS and EK VILLAIN. This could happen at the end of the third week or it may have to wait until week four or even later.
The third weekend for HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY should be around 5 crore nett but the growth over the weekend also depends on how HUMSHAKALS fares.

Saturday - 6,25,00,000
Sunday - 8,50,00,000
Monday - 3,00,00,000

FUGLY grossed 1.25 crore nett on Monday. The collections were steady on the lower side which is expected for a film which has low collections over the weekend. The daily figures for the first four days are as follows.
Friday - 2,25,00,000
Saturday - 2,25,00,000
Sunday - 2,75,00,000
Monday - 1,25,00,000
TOTAL - 8,50,00,000
FUGLY should close the week at more than 11 crore nett but will not
add much after the first week. The film has low costs but with a 12
crore nett finish they will not be recovered as revenue from non
theatrucal sources will also be minimal.
--------------------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY grossed a good 3 crore nett on
its second Monday taking its second week collections to around 22 crore
nett. The daily figures for the second week are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000
Saturday - 6,25,00,000
Sunday - 8,50,00,000
Monday - 3,00,00,000
TOTAL - 22,00,00,000
The second week should close around the 30 crore nett mark which will take it to 98 crore nett in two weeks.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY has grossed 87 crore nett in ten days as the second weekend has added around 19 crore nett. The second week could hit 30 crore nett and take the film near the 100 crore nett mark.
The film is sure to be the highest grossing film of the year. Though there is a heavy flow of releases from Friday onwards, it should manage to do around 10-15 crore nett to go a bit over the 110 crore nett mark.
---------------------------
FUGLY, meanwhile, could not make a mark at the box office as it collected 7.25 crore nett in its first weekend. The film did average business in the North but fared badly in the rest of the circuits especially Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Nizam. The film could also not grow much on Saturday and Sunday.
The film has low costs and so even if it managed around 10 crore nett over the weekend it would have been a decent result of the film. Also there has been a trend over the last few years that the smaller films tend to do well in the Feb-May period while very few have have done well in the June-Dec period.
The other releases of the week like 18.11 A CODE OF SECRECY, CHAL BHAAG, MACHHLI JAL KI RANI HAI, NARI TERI SHAKTI ANOKHI and UNFORGETTABLE were all very dull with only MACHHLI JAL KI RANI HAI having some collections due to the horror factor.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY continues to dominate the box
office as it grossed around 6.25-6.50 crore on Saturday to take its
second weekend total to 10.50 crore nett. If the film follows the trend
of last week it may hit 20 crore nett in its second weekend which will
give it a shot at 100 crore nett it two weeks.
On the other hand, FUGLY is poor as it could not grow on Sunday with collections coming in the 2.25 crore nett range taking its business to 4.50 crore nett in two days. Saturday growth is a must for these types and that too big growth. As FUGLY showed no growth its likely the film will not go anywhere as far as its box office is concerned.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY is set to be the top grosser of the year till date as it maintained steady collections on its eighth day. The day eight collections were around the 4.25 crore nett mark.
The eighth day collections are the best of the year and the second weekend and second week will also follow that trend. The film will easily go over 15 crore nett (possibly even to 17-18 crore) for the weekend as Saturday and Sunday will show big growth.
JAI HO is the biggest grosser of the year till date with 108 crore nett and HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY should beat that and get to the 110 crore nett mark. The film will show a drop from week three onwards due to the flow of big releases. But as the film is established now it will still get the screenings to do decent business from week three onwards and take it towards that 110 crore nett total.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY did well in its first as it grossed around 68 crore nett. The weekend was not quite up to the mark due to the lackluster opening but the film trended very well in the weekdays to come out with a good first week.
The second week should hold well and should be the highest second week of the year beating the figures of 2 STATES and JAI HO which were 25 crore nett approx and 21.50 crore nett approx respectively.
The third week should see the film cross 100 crore nett which is not really a big deal today for big star films like HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY. But as it did not open too well then the 100 crore mark becomes a bigger achievement than it would otherwise. In one or two circuits the film may well go on and be the highest Akshay Kumar grossing film ever. HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY has done good or at least decent business in all circuits across India in its first week.
-------------------------
FILMISTAAN grossed 4.50 crore nett approx in week one. The collections were steady on the weekdays but were very low. This is the norm as low collecting films tend to remain steady but as occupancies are so low they are not able to hold shows going into week two.
The second week is always crucial for these type of films but if the weekdays don't show a good upward trend after such a low start then the second week does not hold much hope. A noticeable drop in week two is inevitable.
The film may finish with business in the 6-7 crore nett range but that is lower than films like HAWAA HAWAAI and CITYLIGHTS which were aimed a similar audience. The plus for FILMISTAAN is that it has lower costs than those films but a 3-3.25 crore lifetime distributor share does not really take it anywhere.

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY held up very strongly on Tuesday which
is was the key day and now the film is set for a good run. There was a limited
drop on Tuesday with collections in the 7-7.25 crore nett region. It is the
highest Tuesday of the year along with JAI HO which was in the same range
The film has so far grossed around 53.75 crore nett and should hit 65 crore nett for the week. The film is holding up very well all over and business in some circuits is likely to be the best ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer.
HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY has found appreciation all over with the only problem for the film being that heavy price tag which is playing spoilsport as the Worldwide distributors paid quite a premium for the film a bit like JAI HO.

Parag Maniar (BOMBAY TIMES; June 13, 2014)
It was the first major Friday release post the IPL and Vipul Shah's Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty delivered. This action-oriented thriller with Akshay Kumar playing an army man with an interesting plot-line opened to a fantastic weekend. What is more, the film has kept the box office engaged even on Monday and Tuesday, showing steady promise.
Trade sources attribute the success of this remake of the Tamil film Thuppakki to filmmaker AR Murugadoss' (who has directed both versions) story-telling ability and to his first-time combo with the Bollywood khiladi, Akshay Kumar.
And even as the film continues its steady trail at the ticket windows; producer Vipul is out there celebrating. Says he, “We got great reviews, great word of mouth from the trade and more importantly , great support from our audience. After Rowdy Rathore, this is another Akshay film that got such fantastic numbers over the opening weekend. The movie has got credibility, commercial success and creativity - all in one. This is a rare moment. I am fortunate that I have got to witness this more than once in my career as a filmmaker. Quite naturally Murugadoss, Akshay and I are ecstatic.'' Vipul, who has shown the film to the secretaries of top-ranking ministers in New Delhi over the last weekend, is hopeful that since there is a strong patriotic message, the film may get a tax exemption.
Says Akshay, “I give the credit for Holiday to my director A R Murugadoss. Holiday is his original vision. And I just feel that I'm lucky to have worked with him in delivering his thought and vision in the right way."
Holiday collects 7.75 cr on Monday; 46.50 cr in 4 days

HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY had a good Monday grossing
7.50-7.75 crore nett and taking its four day business to 46.50 crore
nett. The week should finish around 64-66 crore nett depending on the
falls on the rest of the weekdays. It is the second highest Monday of
the year after JAI HO which grossed around 9 crore nett.
This will make it the second highest first week for Akshay Kumar after ROWDY RATHORE which grossed 75 crore nett approx and coincidently was released in exactly the same as HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY two years back.
If the film manages to hold through the week then the second week will be all important and a big total will mean the film emerging a hit. The 100 crore mark is also dependent on week two as there will be a huge flow of releases from week three onwards which will hit the business of the film hard.
There have been many film in the past 18 months or so which have held up on Monday but then started to fall from Tuesday. And by Thursday, the collections are so low which leaves the second week to fizzle out.
So the key for HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY is too avoid those 15% daily drops and go into week two with solid collections. The keys days for a film hoping to have a long run have become the first Tuesday and second Friday.

The appreciation is better with the multiplex audience and that should drive business from Monday onwards.
-----------------------
HOLIDAY - A SOLIDER IS NEVER OFF DUTY weekend business is around 38.75 crore nett as collections on Sunday amounted to approx 15.49 crore.Sunday has seen almosty 25% huge growth for the film with some circuits having even higher growth.
The weekend is still below par but the week will be good as the trend has been strong over the weekend with good growth in key areas. The opening has cost the film a good weekend as really the first day business should have been more closer to the business on Sunday.
A 35 crore plus weekend is normally a fair result but HOLIDAY - A SOLIDER IS NEVER OFF DUTY is a costly film for its distributors. So it becomes like that JAI HO scenario which got 57 crore nett weekend but still was not quite enough for its costs. Although the costs of HOLIDAY - A SOLIDER IS NEVER OFF DUTY are not as high as JAI HO but still they warrant a bigger weekend than 38 or 39 crore nett.
The final results of the film will be much better than the initial and it could even reach 100 crore nett and should at least emerge a decent success or possibly even a hit depending on how it sustains over the next 10-12 days or so.
------------------------------------------
FILMISTAAN had low numbers over the weekend though there was big growth on Saturday and weekdays will stay steady with low collections. The film really depends on whether it can go and hold up well in the second week. The weekend collections were as follows.
Friday - 45,00,000
Saturday - 95,00,000
Sunday - 1,20,00,000
TOTAL - 2,60,00,000
Holiday-A Solider Is Never Off Duty collects 11.34 cr on Day 1

HOLIDAY - A SOLIDER IS NEVER OFF DUTY grossed 11.34 crore nett on day one as per early estimates which is below the mark for its cost and release size but better than what it looked like when it opened yesterday morning. The film was best in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The opening day collections of the film are less than READY, ROWDY RATHORE and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, the three films which was released in the same week over the last three years.
The collections also picked up in North with East Punjab and Delhi city both going over 1 crore nett. The key is now what happens on Saturday.
There is potential of big growth on Saturday as the film had low occupancies on Friday and can go much higher but on the other hand is that the areas with best business like Rajasthan and Gujarat tend to go down unless they are very low. So it remains to be seen how the film goes on Saturday.
