VISHAL BHARDWAJ ON WINNING THE AWARD FOR THE BEST SCREENPLAY (ADAPTED)
I was expecting it because people were telling me this is my finest work. For me, this award is precious as this is the second film I have written alone. So this makes me more confident about my writing. This is my second award for screenplay (the first one was Haider). While I'm happy with the award, I also feel sad inside for the injustice being done to Aarushi Talwar's parents, especially since their appeal still hasn't been heard. They have been denied bail. I hope the case reopens and when it goes into fast track, justice is served soon, rather than delayed and denied. I was hoping that the film would do something. It did start a debate, but nothing positive came out of it. Our justice system is stubbornly slow as we have cases pending for 20-25 years, because we don't have enough judges. I think instead of cleaning India, we should strengthen our justice system. That is more important.
MEGHNA GULZAR, DIRECTOR OF TALVAR TALKS ABOUT THE FILM'S DOUBLE WIN
Any kind of recognition, whether award or box office, is acceptance of the film and acknowledgement of the work we've done. Both the awards (Vishal Bhardwaj for Best Screen Best Screenplay - Adapted and Sanjay Kurien for Best Audiography - Location Sound Recordist) are much deserved. Talking about the real case, my understanding is that technically it can't be reopened. The material for investigation was quite exhaustive and even when CBI took over the case eight years ago the evidence wasn't great.
