TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR has had a decent first week as collections remained steady through the weekdays. It was a nine day first week so the film should have collected higher than the 78.50 crore it eventually got in the nine days of week one.

The let down was the weekend where the business was underperforming due to the Hindi belt circuits not really performing as they should. It did good business in the bigger centres and continued to do so through the week especially NCR where the film has done very well.

The film is unlikely to be a HIT unless the second Friday really surprises and goes above the Thursday business and even then it is a long road ahead for HIT business. But it can be a success as long as the second Friday does not fall a lot. The best performance is in Delhi /UP even though UP is very average.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR remained steady on Wednesday with collections in the 4.50-4.75 crore nett. Again there was a minimal drop from though it was a little more than yesterday as the mass markets holding at low levels on Monday and Tuesday had a fall on Wednesday which is normal for even films collecting well in these markets.

This takes the business of the film to 74.50 crore nett plus and it will close the extended week at a decent 79 crore nett. The holds are good after Monday as the film finds a level after a decent weekend. The film could have done very well if the opening five days were bigger as its difficult to cover ground for a big release if the weekend numbers don't quite do the job.

The second Friday is crucial as if it that hold around the 4 crore nett range, then the film will be a success theatrically. It will be middling business and it depends on how the industry sees this as far as the future of this genre goes.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR held up well on Tuesday collecting similar to Monday and taking its seven day total to 70 crore nett. The extended first week is looking to be around 79 crore nett which will be a decent number.

The film is being driven by solid results in NCR which is leading Delhi/UP to collect more than Mumbai since Monday and this is despite UP being on the weaker side. The collections of the film show that the genre has become much more niche type now. TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR should have a far wider reach than a film like GULLY BOY but ratios of cities like Baroda, Bareilly, Bhopal types are very similar. Pre pandemic this film would be way ahead of GULLY BOY outside the metros even allowing that content is average.

The film must continue to hold for the next 10-12 days and should become an average success theatrically and the second Friday is crucial as it cannot afford to drop to far from its present levels. The contributions from Delhi/UP and East Punjab are best now. Mumbai city and Pune are good also though the circuit is being let down by a low performance of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR collected a low 5-5.25 crore nett on Monday but the trend is pretty decent as it was 40% drop from Friday. It is the trend which makes the Monday ok. The issue is Friday was low which means the overall numbers are low but as the drop is not much and there is not much competition, the film should continue to collect for a few weeks.

There is not much appreciation for the film in the Hindi circuits but they have not fallen more than others as Friday saw low collection in Hindi circuits. Also these circuits have also have a few good multiplexes which get the collections.

The film is about Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore as these are the places which will drive going forward. These are also the places where watching films at home post pandemic has become more of a habit. As its these few cities which are the best it is certain that this film would have done much better business pre pandemic. This probably holds true for other films as well.

The six day collections so far are near 65 crore nett and it should be a 77-78 crore nett first week for the film.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR remained below the mark overseas as it collected $2.6 million over its five days. It managed to do relatively better over the weekend as the first two days were only $600k. This $2.6 million has come over five days while a DRISHYAM 2 collected $2.35 million in three days; also JUGJUGG JEEYO was $2.23 million in the same category.

The best collection of the film were easily in US/Canada which can be called decent while other circuits were low. The film may finish around the $5 million mark which is not good enough for the film.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did fair business over its extended five day weekend of 60 crore nett apprx with the plus being the weekend trend which bought the collections back to Holi holiday levels. The film should have done more but for a film which has nothing much for the mass markets you take these sort of numbers.

They are not good for the film point of view of the cast and budget but its also pretty certain this film would have done much better pre pandemic and it was green lighted before the pandemic but this is the case for most films releasing today. Also nobody would spend this sort of money on the genre today as box office potential is limited.

The film did not push on Sunday but that was always likely as there is no mass appreciation and basically the film is now dependent on around four cities - Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. These places could hold reasonably well from Monday onward but the story outside is not likely to be that good.

The film got a huge thumbs up from the trade in Mumbai so the weekend has been about matching the box office to their reviews. But this never works and you get caught out and above all the industry within knows what is real and what is fake. But sadly it happens repeatedly and has been happening for years.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did well on Saturday as business went back to its first day level due to good collections in the big centres. It was a must for the film to go back to day one levels. The growth was strong all over with metros growing 70-80% while other areas went up around 50% up. The growth was also solid in circuits like CP Berar and CI also as the bigger cities in these circuits did well on Saturday.

The collections on Saturday were 13.75 crore nett and this takes the total of the film to over 45 crore nett in four days with Sunday to come. The issue facing the film will be appreciation as the jumps in many centres have come from low numbers; so, the relative number on Saturday at many places looks low. A Gujarat/Saurashtra is a little over 1 crore on Saturday and more importantly a gentry centre like Chandigarh is only 20 lakhs apprx on Saturday. It can be said that that Saturday is the fourth day so a certain amount of business has been consumed but then business being consumed already is a worry for the future.

The growth on Sunday is mainly from mass centres and here they may not grow as they should so it again puts pressure on the bigger centres to perform if the film is to come out with a solid Sunday. The film has a huge budget which is by far the highest ever for a film of this genre of over 200 crore and the business is not in sync with that. But that was known beforehand that it was always going to struggle in that way due to the changes in cinema post pandemic.

The idea was to do some good or even decent level business theatrically which gives the industry some confidence to keep this genre alive today with cast films and the film has managed to do what it should have on Saturday but the acid test will come on Monday.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was pretty much flat on its third day as it showed a major drop in Delhi/UP as it was the last day of the Holi period while a couple of more circuits where Holi lasts were also down though some others made minor gains. Gujarat, which dropped huge on Thursday, was still struggling with low collections on Friday.

The film collected around 8.75 crore nett which takes the three day total of the film to 31.75 crore nett. It is an okay collection for the first three days (as long as the weekend shows big growth) considering the box office scenario today though really with the Holi factor it should have been higher. But the test is now for the film as Saturday is the day for big city multiplexes and the film must show big growth to stay in the race and then consolidate on Sunday.

The target after the drop on day two was always the day one number on Saturday as if it got there on Sunday it would probably be too late. The target audience in the top five or ten big cities will be out in numbers and these cities will have to go higher than day one to cover the shortfall that will be in mass pockets compared to the Holi holiday

There was big fall in Delhi/UP circuit but Mumbai was up a little due to Maharashtra and this circuit is still the key as it needs to perform better as when mass circuits are at best going to do average business then it is impossible for a film to survive without Mumbai circuit having good collections. Delhi/UP is less of an issue as despite the drop on day three, the NCR area is generally doing well for the film.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was better in Overseas on Friday as it collected over $500k taking its total to around $1.15 million. The film looks to be heading for a $2.25-2.50 million weekend which will be in that DRISHYAM 2, JUGJUGG JEEYO and BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2 range. The film really needs to jump on Saturday if it is go above this range.

The difference being that the numbers for those films came in three days while it will be five days for TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and this film is much bigger than those in terms of budget. The film is going to fare better in the metros in India so overseas should really be doing better.

The Wednesday release probably did not help in overseas but still collections should be higher. Gulf is a let down while US/Canada is likely to be come out the best circuit. The three day worldwide business of the film is around 47.50 crore which again is low but this is due to the Wednesday release. The target is probably a 100 crore GROSS five day weekend though it will really have to get its skates on for that.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR saw a drop in collections on day two of around 35% which would have been fine if it was full out Holi but as a few states did not have Holi including Maharashtra which forms a huge chunk of the business, it should have held up better. The collections of the film are 9 crore nett which takes the film to 23 crore nett.

The film held up well in Delhi/UP, Bihar and CP Berar and made gains in many centres of these circuits but this is the norm as many places in these regions remain shut for most of the day in Holi. But on the other side, there was a huge drop in Gujarat/Saurashtra of around 70% and it is probably post Holi affect here. Still collections are down at a low level and as Holi is huge, the first day should have been higher.

There are also heavy drops in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan with an up market centre like Chandigarh falling 50% which is not good. Overall the film is in a decent position after two days but a film like this with good music, stars and a director with a good track record should be doing better than decent in its first two days especially over a holiday period. 

The film has a lot of ground to cover and although the headline numbers look reasonable mainly due to Holi, there is a struggle at many places which did not get Holi benefit and some of these are big centres. The film has to really grow today but as some areas got Holi benefit yesterday which will become less today it will be limited growth at best.

The acid test will be Saturday and Sunday where collections have to go to much higher levels if the film is to sustain. Its still there with a chance though it wont be easy due to the average collections over the first two days.

The fate of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR is very much dependent on Mumbai circuit as this circuit has fallen heavily on the second day. There was always going to be a Gujarat fall after Holi but it seems a little extra here. And the fall should have been compensated a little by Maharashtra where there was no Holi on day one.

The collections of the film are down to 2.35 crore nett in Mumbai circuit and basically the pressure is on as collections in this circuit cannot afford to be any lower on Monday and that will not be an easy task. Mumbai circuit has two major cities where the film can do well (Mumbai city and Pune); so the circuit is a must for the film.

It is practically impossible for the film to work if Mumbai falls on Monday as the Holi factor will be out and the Hindi belt is not too strong as it is. So it becomes a story of Mumbai, Delhi NCR and South and if Mumbai also goes, it just cannot survive on doing well in NCR and South.

Mumbai is the place where all these ratings and reports come from which go around the media and within the industry so although we know they are a joke as India has very wide demographics but the industry does get taken in many times. It is all gender, race, age, location based and these are so wide for a Hindi film. But someone in Mumbai should have a more relatable view with others in the city. But so many times people fail to judge their own city, let alone others.

This is not to say the film will not do well in Mumbai as Monday is there There is still time but if it does not do, what is the point of declaring film blockbuster, superhit or winner when it fails because of the lack of collections from the city where all these verdicts are coming from. Other places in India being different is acceptable.

It will be the barometer below of Mumbai circuit on Monday which will decide where TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR goes and hopefully it can get the Thursday number again on Monday which would keep it in the race for success.

TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR has grossed around $600k over the first two days which is low but there is the weekend to come. So, the film has to be judged on that as Holi means nothing overseas. After the insane success of PATHAAN, the Gulf market seems to have gone back to normal and is not contributing as it should. 

Gulf was always going to be the tough market and it has not performed though the other markets like US, UK and Australia are also low. But they can be given some leeway as they are not scoring on Wednesday and Thursday unless its some event film. The two day collections in all these markets were mediocre.

The genre will be seen to be overseas friendly but that is all out of the window today and generally whatever does well in India tends to do well overseas. The target is probably to hit around $2 million overseas which is very average at best and there is a chance it could stay lower.
