Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff have entertained the audience over the years with their amazing on-screen camaraderie. The two actors have shared screen space in about 12 films, including Karma (1986), Ram Lakhan (1989), Parinda (1989), Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) and 1942: A Love Story (1994). They were last seen together in Shootout At Wadala (2013). Now, there is a strong buzz that the two heroes known for their style, swag and passion for movies might reunite a decade later for Subhash Ghai’s next production, titled Chor Police, which is written by Anees Bazmee and Pattu Parekh.
Ask Jackie about the possibility of working with Anil in Chor Police, and he replies, “I wish it happens.”
Talking about his on-screen equation with Anil, Jackie elaborates, “We were accepted as brothers early in our career. I guess that’s also because both of us had moustaches. He is senior to me by a year or so, but he has mostly played my younger brother. In real life, I am like his younger brother. I seek his advice on various things, including the kind of films I should take up and watch and the business aspect of the film industry. He knows everything. We may not meet often, but we are colleagues from the ’80s and are friends to date.”
Writer-director Anees Bazmee says, “Yes, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff have been approached. They love Subhash ji as much as I do. I am sure they will readily come on board for the film for him. Unka haq aur pyaar hai. Yeh woh log hain jo rishton ko pehle rakhte hain. I haven’t met them yet, but I am sure they know that we must have written something good for them that justifies their presence in the film.”
While Anil will play a character from the family of thieves, Jackie will represent the family of cops. Talking about his association with Anil, Jackie and Subhash Ghai, the filmmaker says, “I have worked a lot with Anil ji, but I haven’t worked with Jackie ji much, barring writing a few films and working as an assistant director on Jaanoo (1985). He is very talented aur woh bahut zindadil insaan hain. Jab bhi milte hain bahut pyaar se milte hain. I have wanted to work with him for a long time, and I am happy that it is finally happening.”
He further adds, “Subhash ji and I go back a long way. He is a friend and my guru. I have been inspired by his work and films. Subhash ji wanted me to write the film, and so I did. The rest — whether I am on board as a co-producer or a creative person — will be his call.”
