While happy occasions in the Kapoor clan are typically celebrated with family gatherings, Ranbir Kapoor turned 35 on Thursday amidst school friends and star colleagues with an informal party at his bachelor pad in Pali Hill.

The all-nighter kicked off at 10 pm on Wednesday and wrapped up at 6am the next morning. In attendance were RK’s childhood friends, Avantika Malik with actor-husband Imran Khan, Abhay Chopra, Tushar Khanna, Ayesha Devitre, as well as Alia Bhatt, his co-star from Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming superhero drama, and his fave filmmakers — Karan Johar, Imtiaz Ali, Anurag Basu and Rajkumar Hirani — as well as Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Also present at the bash, was Bollywood’s resident band of boys — Aditya Roy Kapur, Arjun Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Juno Chopra, Kunal Rawal and Rohit Dhawan. RK’s filmmaker best friend, Ayan, helped put the do together but couldn’t make it as he’s not in town, while cousin Kareena Kapoor is in Delhi filming Veere Di Wedding.

“Ranbir hadn’t had a big birthday blowout in years. Last year, he just cut a cake on the sets of Jagga Jasoos. This time, it seemed like a great idea to have all his close friends together. There was cake, music and the spirits flowed over conversation around films. The party also doubled up as a reunion for Ranbir and his 10th standard classmates. They’ve been friends for 20 years,” a guest from the party told Mirror, adding that Ranbir’s exes weren’t on the guest list. “But there was plenty of banter involved, as his friends made light of his public image of a lover boy. He’s fondly called ‘Rambo’ by the Kapoors,” the guest added.

Gauri Khan was among the early birds, and greeted Aamir, who arrived with wife Kiran Rao. KJo joined them while SRK showed up later. Raazi costars Alia and Vicky Kaushal, who returned on Wednesday from the film’s two-week-long Kashmir schedule, gorged on the home-cooked Indian food. Exes Alia and Sidharth had a long chat but arrived and left separately.

The generally reclusive Ranbir seems to be making an effort to be more accessible to his fans and the media. On Wednesday, the actor was at a dance studio, preping up for Ayan’s film, when he posed for the paps to snap him exiting the venue. On Thursday evening, he cut cakes with fans near his house.

To make up for RK’s absence on social media, mom Neetu thanked his fan clubs and also shared a throwback pic. “Happy birthday, Rana, you are the dream child any parent would wish for! Loving, caring and intellectual,” she captioned the picture.
