My Most Awaited Bollywood Films Of 2016!

FAN: It’s teaser was one of the best ever. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in an unrecognizable avatar – a 24 year old Dilliwallah who is an ardent fan of a superstar (also played by himself!). The plot itself is so tempting and one can’t help but expect fireworks from this film!
RAEES: SRK is often criticized for not taking up challenging roles. 2016 will change this perception first with Fan and then Raees. There is already heightened expectations thanks to it’s excellent first look teaser. It will be fun to see SRK-Nawazuddin on either side of the law.
DANGAL: Well, it stars Aamir Khan which is a big enough reason to wait for this film with bated breath. Aamir has gained a lot of weight for this role as he plays the father of two wrestler daughters. Expect some great entertainment for the full family this Xmas!
GHAYAL ONCE AGAIN: Sunny Deol has given very bad films off late. However, there’s a charm in his promos that makes one wait for his films, at least for me. And moreover, this is a sequel to the much loved Ghayal. I hope Sunny gets back to the top league with this one.
AIRLIFT: Akshay Kumar gets back in the much-loved league of Baby & Special 26 with Airlift. It rests on a great premise (which is a true story) and seems like something that will make every Indian proud.
FITOOR: Rock On 2 and Kai Po Che director Abhishek Kapoor will unveil his romantic saga Fitoor this Valentine’s Day. The production stills look great and the star cast – Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif – add to the excitement. That it is shot in Kashmir is like an icing on the cake
NEERJA: It is based on the 1986 PanAm Hijack incident and features Sonam Kapoor as the braveheart Neerja Bhanot. The trailer was very exciting and looks like the makers have come up with a winner
KAPOOR & SONS: Shakun Batra made a great directorial debut with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Hence, Kapoor & Sons is highly awaited. Also, it has a great star cast – Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan and Rishi Kapoor
ROCKY HANDSOME: John Abraham gets back in the massy action avatar with Rocky Handsome, directed by Nishikant Kamat and co-starring Shruti Haasan. The action and John’s bond with the little girl will be something to watch out for
KI AND KA: The ‘story of a house husband’ is an interesting concept and it will be lot of fun to see Arjun Kapoor playing the coveted part with Kareena Kapoor as his wife in Ki And Ka. What is also exciting is that it’s directed by R Balki, who can create magic with his slice-of-life, relatable films.
FORCE 2: Personally, Force for me was okay. But Force 2 seems exciting thanks to the star cast – John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha and Mardaani actor Tahir Raj Bhasin. Reportedly, the film has some great action scenes. Also, director Abhinay Deo is too good, having made ventures like Delhi Belly and 24
AKIRA: Sonakshi Sinha, who is often ridiculed for taking up not-so-important roles, will make everyone ‘khaamosh’ with Akira, where she plays the leading role. It is directed by masses’ darling A R Murugadoos. Also it stars Konkona Sen Sharma and any film of hers is definitely something to watch out for
AZHAR: In many ways, it is the last attempt at stardom for the very talented Emraan Hashmi. It’s a biopic on cricketing legend Mohammed Azharuddin and the film promises to look into his scandalous personal life and not just his cricket career. If made well, it can become a huge talking point for sure.
HOUSEFULL 3: Housefull and Housefull 2 were brilliant entertainers. Hence, Housefull 3 is a keenly awaited film for me. Director Sajid Khan is sadly missing but Sajid-Farhad are at the helm and they are great too. Their one-liners are always witty and maddening and that surely would be a big USP of the film!
JAGGA JASOOS: The brilliant performer Ranbir Kapoor will once again bring something interesting to the table with Jagga Jasoos. It will be interesting to see how he plays the young detective in this film that has as many as 20 songs reportedly
UDTA PUNJAB: The casting itself is very promising – Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt! Shahid’s look is very unusual but interesting. It is a dark film about rampant drug abuse in Punjab and it will be fun to see 3 mainstream actors doing such a risky film.
RANGOON: Shahid Kapoor’s other release of the year is also unconventional – Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon. It co-stars Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan and is based during World War 2. The drama, the intensity and the music of Bhardwaj’s music is always exciting and Rangoon hopefully will be no exception.
DISHOOM: Rohit Dhawan’s Desi Boyz was average but his direction was too good. Hence, Dishoom looks promising and the first look is very, very exciting. For me, an exciting aspect is that Akshaye Khanna makes his comeback with this entertainer!
MOHENJO DARO: Period films are always welcome and something based on Indus Valley Civilization is very exciting since not a single film is based on this era. Ashutosh Gowariker has made this film with Hrithik Roshan in the lead and music is by A R Rahman.
RUSTOM: Akshay Kumar doing a meaningful film is always fun and Rustom seems to be another flick in this regard. Not much is known about the premise but it is produced by Neeraj Pandey and hence it should worth waiting for
AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL: It is directed by Karan Johar, one of the best filmmakers around. The star cast is like a treat – Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. I can’t wait to see what KJo has come up with this time and how these 3 marvelous actors have fared
SHIVAAY: Ajay Devgn stars and also directs this ambitious venture. It remains to be seen what the film deals with but it promises loads of entertainment and action. The recent pic of Ajay hanging on a great height in the Himalayas was killer!
HALF GIRLFRIEND: The novel is highly entertaining and it will be interesting to see Mohit Suri directing it. I still wish Sushant Singh Rajput takes up the role because he’ll surely do justice
MANMARZIYAN: The Dum Laga Ke Haisha actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar will once again create magic in Manmarziyan. Also joining them is the Masaan actor Vicky Kaushal. Moreover, it is directed by Sameer Sharma, who gave us the lovely flick Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana
TE3N: Produced by Sujoy Ghosh and directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, TE3N is a thriller starring Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and has Vidya Balan in a special appearance. It is shot in the beautiful Kolkata and can turn out to be an exciting fare!
ANWAR KA AJAB KISSA: This is another detective film of the year that is not being much talked about. It stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a lead role and is directed by acclaimed director Buddhadeb Dasgupta.
PETER GAYA KAAM SE: A film ready since a long time, it stars Rajeev Khandelwal and newcomer Lekha Washington. From the trailers, it seems like a riveting thriller and neat small film, something that UTV banner is known for. Have been mentioning this film every year in my ‘most awaited films’ list…hope next year, I don’t have to do so! Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zig5oim0SXU
