Natsamrat is an extraordinary piece of cinema as it attempts to tell the life of a retired actor and his sufferings. Yes, the performances are extraordinary and the film rests on a great premise. But the best part of the film is the depiction of the trauma faced by the protagonist and how the lines between the stage and the reality used to blur for the aging Ganpatrao. It is so bloody convincing and in some scenes, it is sure to give one goosebumps! Nana Patekar gives award-winning and arguably, his finest performance till date. Vikram Gokhale too shines in a supporting role. Medha Manjrekar moves viewers with her amazing act, especially in the second half. Mrunmayee Deshpande (Vidya Ganpat Belwalkar), Ajit Parab (Makrand Ganpat Belwalkar), Neha Pendse (Neha Makrand Belwalkar) and Sunil Barve deliver great performances. Writing is top-class and same goes for Mahesh Manjrekar’s direction. A must watch for all those and hope this film releases outside Maharashtra as well! This gem deserves a pan-India release!
My rating - **** out of 5!
