Gurmeet Choudhary became a
popular name with his very first serial Ramayan. In his teleseries Geet
Hui Sabse Parayi, he got the lovely ladies swooning over his stubble
look and chiselled body. Punar Vivah, his next show, was a hot favourite
amongst the audience, and following the success of that, reality shows
like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 5 made Gurmeet a sought
after face on TV.
After a successful stint on the small screen, Gurmeet ventured into Bollywood with Khamoshiyan. He will soon be seen in his second film Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana. He excitedly says, “It's a comedy in which I play a prince. I can't divulge any more details but I can tell you that I'm doing something that my fans will enjoy watching. I'm eagerly waiting for its release.“
He credits his wife Debina Bonnerjee for all the success, “She has been my pillar of strength and has supported me in all my decisions. I discuss my work with her at length and her clarity of thought has always helped me choose good roles,“ he says.
Gurmeet is a self-confessed fitness junkie. Staying fit has always been his priority and it gives him an irresistible high. “I make sure that I take time out to exercise. I regularly practice kick-boxing, gymnastics, yoga, swimming and dancing to stay fit. Even when I am holidaying, I don't miss my workouts. In the worst case scenario, if I miss my gym class, I walk up to my home which is on the 25th floor,“ he emphasises.
The actor, who came to Mumbai as a 19-year-old boy with big dreams of becoming a film actor, has moulded himself for the silver screen, “I don't come from a filmi background, so when I landed in Mumbai, I was a bit lost and had no one to guide me. One day I managed to meet Yash Chopra and he advised me to do television. He said Shah Rukh Khan is the best example and he explained, 'SRK started his career as a TV actor. Why don't you also do TV shows and make a name for yourself, and then gradually move to films'. That's how I started doing serials and there has been no looking back ever since.“
Quiz Gurmeet if he will get back to television and he says, “I won't be able to a daily soap because of time constraints, but if there is a finite series and I have an interesting role, then I can think about it. TV is a huge medium and it has made me who I am today .“
Talking about his future plans he says, “I am really enjoying this phase in my career. I am being a little choosy when it comes to my work and I don't want to rush and take any wrong decisions. Quality work has always been my priority. I don't want to set any boundaries; I would like to work with different directors and actors.“
