'Operation Sindoor' title finally allocated to a film

OP SINDOOR TITLE
FINALLY ALLOCATED
TO A FILM

The fight to register the official film title on India’s historic tri-service military strike on terror camps in Pakistan has finally come to an end
Yashika Mathur (HINDUSTAN TIMES; May 7, 2026)

On the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor today, as India marks the triumphant strike against the Pakistan-based terror camps, production house Bihar Film Company has secured the official rights to use the title Operation Sindoor for a film. The company is backed by Ankit Singh and Sangram Singh.

The title had drawn massive interest, with over 150 applications submitted to the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA).

Confirming the development, IMPPA president Abhay Sinha says, “There were several applications for this name, but it was allocated to the first applicants who wished to register it.”

Among others who applied was filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who had earlier announced that he had acquired the rights to make a film based on the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan by Lt Gen KJS ‘Tiny’ Dhillon. “Vivek Agnihotri has been given two titles, Kashmir Files 2 and The Night of Operation Sindoor,” says Sinha.

Our parents are old and we have to do things to make them happy-Payal Rohatgi

Payal Rohatgi And Sangram Singh Are Reportedly Getting Married, 4 Years After Engagement

Payal Rohatgi and Sangram Singh have set July 9 as the date for their D-day and have been travelling around NCR and Ahmedabad to finalize their wedding venue
Divya Kaushik (BOMBAY TIMES; June 6, 2022)

Wrestler and motivational speaker Sangram Singh and actress Payal Rohatgi, who have been together for 12 years, will be getting married on July 9. The couple announced their wedding date online and are now searching for a venue. “We wanted to do a destination wedding in Rajasthan or Uttarakhand, but then realized that it would be difficult for our parents, who are very old now, to travel so much for the wedding. So, we thought that NCR would be the most convenient location for our families, and are looking at venues there. If things don’t work out in NCR, then we will have the wedding in Ahmedabad, where Payal’s family is based. Also, there will be a small celebration at my village in Haryana. People there have been waiting for my marriage as much as my parents (laughs)!” says Sangram.

I WANTED A WEDDING WITH ALL THE REETI-RIVAAZ: PAYAL ROHATGI

Payal adds that they have decided to have an intimate, traditional wedding, followed by a reception in Delhi and Mumbai for their friends. “We are certain that the wedding will just be attended by our families and a few close friends. We are planning to host a reception in Delhi and Mumbai a few days later for our friends. Sangram initially wanted to have a court marriage or a temple wedding and surprise our families, but I wanted a traditional wedding with all the reeti-rivaaz in the presence of our families. I think every woman wants to make her wedding day special and memorable in every way possible, and look her best. So, I want all traditions and rituals to be followed. I want to look pretty as it’s going to be a life-long memory. It will be a three-day celebration, and the wedding rituals will take place during the day on July 9,” says Payal.

MOST PEOPLE IN MY VILLAGE, GET MARRIED BY 22-24: SANGRAM SINGH

Both of them say that their marriage is the most-awaited occasion for their families. “There was a time when our families had given up on us. But we realize that our parents are old and we have to do things to make them happy. His mother’s dream is to see Sangram married,” says Payal.

Sangram adds, “I thought this was the right time. My mother has been waiting for this day for years. She started looking for brides as soon as I started working. Every Sunday, there would be a prospective bride’s family sitting at home. My mother would make excuses to make me come home early from work. Actually, most people in our village get married when they turn 22-24. Also, this time it was a spontaneous decision to get married. Payal was a part of a reality show, where I saw that her co-contestants would often tease her with my name and she even cried. I didn’t like that, and we have been together for years now, so I thought that let’s get married. I wanted July 21 as our wedding date as that’s also my birthday, but my mother said that there is no mahurat for weddings after July 9, so I had to agree on that.”

Payal Rohatgi, Sangram Singh to have a ‘simple temple wedding’ on July 21

Payal-Sangram to have a ‘simple temple wedding’ on July 21
Vinay MR Mishra (HINDUSTAN TIMES; May 21, 2022)

After a courtship of 12 years, actor Payal Rohatgi and wrestler Sangram Singh are finally set to tie the knot. We have exclusively learnt that the couple will have a simple wedding on Singh’s birthday, July 21. They are done with the pre-wedding shoot and will start shopping for the big day soon. Their wedding outfits will be styled by a Delhi-based brand, Study By Janak.

While Rohatgi maintained an “I cannot confirm or deny anything” stance, Singh, on the other hand, confirmed the news, saying, “I am extremely happy. We have been with each other for 12 years and it’s time to get married. Even our parents have wanted us to get married for a long time. I don’t think I can find a better girl than Payal. She is extremely genuine.”

He says that it will be a “simple wedding on my birthday”. Singh adds, “I believe marriage is just a thappa (stamp) that is needed for society, but I think it is important, especially for a girl’s respect. We will have a temple wedding with all the rituals as per the Arya Samaj. The wedding will take place either in Gujarat or Haryana. We will have haldi and mehendi ceremonies, too,” he says.

Dibakar Banerjee and his bros denied me work after I spoke up-Payal Rohatgi

Payal Rohatgi: Dibakar Banerjee and his bros denied me work after I spoke up
With the #MeToo movement gathering momentum, Payal Rohatgi urges YRF to relook into sexual misconduct allegations against Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar director Dibakar Banerjee
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; October 22, 2018)

Bollywood has exercised a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment allegations over the past few weeks, as several alleged offenders — including directors Sajid Khan and Subhash Kapoor — were dropped from their respective professional assignments. Actor Payal Rohatgi had accused director Dibakar Banerjee of sexual misconduct in 2011.

Rohatgi points out that despite her seven-year-old accusations against him, Banerjee has walked away unscathed and finds himself helming a prestigious project in Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. "Dibakar did six films after that. He doesn't look like a villain, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he used his sob story of a bad marriage to make a move. I didn't file an FIR against him because I was intimidated. In the wake of #MeToo, I hope things will be different. I don't know if YRF [Yash Raj Films, producer of Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar] will take a stand. YRF knows about Dibakar," says Rohatgi.

For the uninitiated, the actor had alleged that Banerjee had tried to take advantage of her in lieu of offering a role in one of his upcoming movies. She claimed that he had asked her to "lift my shirt and show him my stomach." While she had called him out then, Rohatgi says she was punished by the industry for speaking up.

"I was working opposite actors like Irrfan and Paresh Rawal. But after I held the press conference, no one called me for an audition again. I stopped getting films. So I had to move to television. I kept myself alive with stage shows. It was a case of one brother backing another. According to Anurag [Kashyap], I was having an affair with Dibakar. But if I were hypothetically having an affair, that still doesn't make Dibakar right; he was married at that time," she fires back. Though empowered by the change in the industry, Rohatgi doesn't intend to pursue the matter anymore. "I don't want to put Sangram [Singh, fiance] and my family through the earlier turmoil. I have moved on."

mid-day reached out to Banerjee, but failed to receive a response.

Sangram Singh's biopic on wrestler K D Jadhav to be directed by Shyam Benegal?

Sangram Singh will play wrestler K D Jadhav, who was the first individual athlete from India to win a medal at the Olympics
Divya Kaushik (BOMBAY TIMES; June 10, 2017)

A new sports biopic is in the making in Bollywood and sources say that the film will be helmed by veteran director Shyam Benegal. After the success of biopics on sportspersons like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom, a film on the life of wrestler Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav - who won the first individual medal for India at the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland, where he bagged a Bronze -  is underway. Wrestler Sangram Singh acquired the rights to make the film on Jadhav earlier this year. He will be playing the lead role in the movie and the shooting will begin in November in the state.

Sangram has already started preparing for the role and has been in touch with Jadhav's family to learn the details of his life. “This is the first time that a real-life wrestler will be playing a wrestler in a Bollywood film.

Being a wrestler himself, Sangram understands the techniques of the game and the body language of a wrestler, but he has been working a lot on his body and speech. He has already lost around 6 kg in the last three months, and will be losing another 10 kg in the months to come. He is also being trained in acting by a teacher from the National School of Drama,“ says a source associated with the film.

Sangram has also been reading about Jadhav and how he trained himself to win an Olympic medal for India. Jadhav got his share of fame first at the 1948 London Olympics, when he finished sixth in the flyweight category. He then joined the police force as a sub-inspector in 1955.

“Despite 27 years of service, Jadhav had to struggle to get his pension. His entire life is an inspiring and motivating journey. But the idea of the film is not to just highlight his achievements as a wrestler, but to also focus on how he fought the odds to win laurels for his country,“ adds the source.

I felt that was me on screen-Sangram Singh

Wrestling champ Sangram Singh exults on Salman’s Sultan act

Wrestling champ Sangram Singh is exceedingly happy with what Salman Khan has done to the wrestler’s fraternity in Sultan. He enthuses, “With this one film, wrestling has acquired a kind of national recognition that it never had. Issko kehte hain star power. Sultan is highly motivational. Many times while watching the film, I felt that it was me up there struggling as a wrestler. I’ve been down and out, just like Salman’s Sultan. There was a time when I was in a wheelchair and I was told, forget wrestling, I’d be unable to walk.”

Sangram loves the never-say-die spirit displayed by Sultan. “That never-give-up attitude, that’s me. Many who saw the film said seeing Salmanji reminded them of me.” However, there were certain scenes and events in the film that Sangram found hard to believe. “Kuch cheezen unbelievable thi. After winning Olympic Gold and becoming a World Champion Sultan is shown collecting chanda (funds) of 10-20 rupees. Nevertheless, this is Salmanji’s best performance to date. Anushkaji has also given a good performance.”

Most importantly, Sangram feels Sultan will popularise wrestling. “Just as hockey got a boost after Chak De, I feel Sultan will take wrestling from the akhada to living rooms and stadiums in the cities. Now, we’ve Aamir Khanji also coming up soon with a film on wrestling. So, it is a good time for wrestling in this country.”

Sangram is happy to see indigenous sports getting their dues. “For too long cricket and football were the only celebrated games in India. Now kabaddi and wrestling, which are so linked to the Indian ethos, are also being recognised. I am very happy.” Wouldn’t Sangram have wanted to play Sultan? “No! Audiences would not have come to see me on screen.Woh Salmanji ka jalwa hai jo wrestling wali film itni zabardast hit bana di,” says Sangram.

Olympics ambassador row: Sangram Singh asks, ‘Why not Salman Khan?’

Subhash K Jha (DNA; April 26, 2016)

Enlarge ImageMilkha Singh and a few other sportspersons spoke up against Salman Khan’s appointment as India’s goodwill ambassador to the Rio Olympics. But Olympian wrestler Sangram Singh is all for Salman. Says Sangram, “Why not Salman Khan? He is a superstar — not only in India, but all over the world. If his name is associated with sports, it is bound to benefit all sports activities in India.”

Sangram disagrees with fellow-wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt who has criticised Salman’s selection for the Olympian honour. “It’s unrealistic and impractical to ask, ‘Why Bollywood stars and not sportspersons to promote sports? The answer is very simple. Bollywood stars are much more popular and they have a far wider reach than us, sports persons.” Sangram is happy as long as sports and sporting activities are promoted. “When Bollywood’s superstars associate their names with sporting activities, the latter benefits, as hockey benefitted after Shah Rukh Khan did Chak De! or kabaddi and football benefit when Abhishek Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor are involved.”

Sangram doesn’t doubt Salman’s sincerity. “If he has said he will serve as the goodwill ambassador for sporting activities, he will put his heart and soul in it. I’ve been associated with him when I was in Bigg Boss. He really cares for causes.’

However, Sangram is not too sure if Salman’s team would allow him to do the elected work properly. “It’s the people around him who distract his attention. He is made to be involved in too many activities at the same time. But I am hopeful.”

Sangram Singh turns down Aamir Khan starrer Dangal?

Subhash K Jha (DNA; December 5, 2015)

Enlarge ImageThings are not so hunky-dory between real-life wrestling champ Sangram Singh and the celluloid wrestler Aamir Khan. Aamir wanted Sangram to play the role of his main opponent in the ring in Dangal, so that the fight in the grand finale looks real.

There was only one hitch. Sangram’s character had to lose the competition with Aamir. This, Sangram, a wrestling champ, refused to do.

Explains Sangram, “I have the highest regard for Aamir and when he asked me to be part of Dangal, I was most happy. Unfortunately, I would have to lose the match with Aamir. This I couldn’t do.”

Ego or pride? Protests Sangram, “Nahin, it’s not a matter of ego or pride. It is to do with preserving the dignity, the respect and love that my country has given me. Just for the pleasure of being seen on screen with Aamir, I can’t play a loser. It will disappoint my supporters.”

Sangram wishes both Aamir and Salman Khan all the best with their wrestlers’ roles. “With superstars like Aamir and Salman playing real-life wrestlers the sport will get some positive attention. Just like hockey did when Shah Rukh played a hockey player in Chak De!.”

Hrithik Roshan to host non-fiction TV show Real Heroes on Discovery Channel?

Subhash K Jha (DNA; July 11, 2015)

Come October, Hrithik Roshan is coming to a television screen near you. The Bang Bang star has so far only judged one reality show and hasn’t hosted any despite several tempting offers. But now, he will be seen hosting one on Discovery Channel. Entitled Real Heroes, the series will focus on people who have overcome all odds to become heroes.

Says a source, “Hrithik has himself been a real-life hero. He stammered during his childhood and growing years which he overcame through intense voice exercises and willpower. He immediately connected with the show’s concept and theme. And agreed to come on board.”

The first episode to be aired September-end or early October features wrestler Sangram Singh, who virtually dragged himself out of a wheelchair after a crippling accident to become an Olympic champ.

Says the source, “The series is deeply motivational. That’s why Hrithik has agreed to come on board for Real Heroes. Of course, the zeroe s on the pay check helped.”

Got non-veg food to the shoot? It will cost you

No smoking, no phones, no wasting food... these are some of the rules on the sets of TV shows. Those who violate them have to pay a fine or treat the cast and crew
Saloni Bhatia (BOMBAY TIMES; March 12, 2015)

NO WASTING FOOD ON THIS SET
While people can't bring non-vegetarian food on some sets, on others, they have to finish all their food even if they're full. On the sets of Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi, the actors have come up with a rule that anyone found wasting food will have to pay a fine. Rahul Sharma, the male lead of the show, says, “We have a rule on the sets that we don't waste the food on our plates. If does so, they have to pay a fine of  Rs 100 and treat the entire cast and crew to cold drinks. In case the quantity of food wasted is large, the fine also increases. There were some actors who had to pay a heavy price for wasting food, because they were fined Rs 100 and were even asked to treat everyone to cold drinks. However, now, many have fallen in line because they don't like being penalised.“

NO SMOKING, NO NON-VEG
The 'no smoking' rule applies to the sets of many TV shows, since the sets are made of wood and there's always the chance that they could catch fire if someone throws a cigarette. So me producers want non-vegetarian food and cigarettes as far away from the sets as possible. Himanshu Soni, currently seen in Neeli Chhatri Waale, says, “Our producer has a rule that nobody can bring or order non-veg food. The rule book says anybody caught eating non-veg food has to pay a fine of  Rs 200. There was an artiste on the show who had brought non-veg food and ended up paying the fine. We also asked him to give us a party and order veg food for us. I am a vegetarian, so I don't face such issues, but non-vegetarians sometimes get hassled. Perhaps some of the actors have their food in their vanity vans.“ The same rule applies to the sets of shows like Diya Aur Baati Hum, Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi (which went off air on February 13) and Mere Rang Mein Rangne Waali.

KEEP YOUR PHONE ON SILENT
It's really irritating when a phone rings in the middle of an important meeting, right? It turns out, directors feel the same way if something like that happens while they are shooting a dramatic scene. Ravindra Gautam, who is currently directing the upcoming show Begusarai, says, “I have this rule on my new show that nobody's phone should ring while the scene is being filmed. If it does happen, the person is supposed to pay a fine of  Rs 500. If the phone rings loudly, it disturbs everyone and sometimes, if we are shooting an intense scene, it ends up disrupting the entire mood. So, I have created this rule. In fact, even I have ended up paying the fine a couple of times! When I was directing Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, I remember Vivian Dsena and Drashti Dhami also had to pay fines because their phones would ring during the shoot. It's because of this rule that actors and other crew members have started keeping their phones on silent mode or leaving their phones with someone.“

It seems that this rule is applicable on the sets of other shows as well, including Humsafars, which went off air on February 20. Payal Rohatgi, who is a part of Humsafars, says, “I am very particular about keeping my phone on silent, but once it happened that my phone rang loudly, while a shot was being taken. It so happened that Sangram (her beau) had said that he would call me in five minutes and during that time, when I was waiting for his call, I forgot to keep the phone on silent mode. It rang in the middle of a shot and I was quite embarrassed. I treated the entire unit, which comprises 120 members, to ice creams. The place where we shoot is near an ice cream factory, and there's nothing else available.“

JUMPED TO A CONCLUSION? PAY UP!
We're all guilty of leaping to conclusions and later trying to get out of them with the excuse, 'I felt like it was the right thing'. But what if there was a fine on jumping to conclusions? Something similar exists on the sets of Mere Rang Mein Rangne Waali.Samridh Bawa, who plays LD on the show, says, “On the sets, our director has created this rule that no one is allowed to say 'Sir, mujhe aisa laga' ya `maine aisa socha'. If we utter this phrase, we have to pay a fine of `10. Our director says, `If you have any doubts, come and clear them. Don't assume things'. In fact, I have already deposited `100 with my director, because I have a habit of saying these words.Pranali (Ghogare, his co-star in the show), has already paid Rs 150 for the same. This rule even applies to our director, who has to pay `50 if he utters these words. He has paid the fine a couple of times. We have a box kept on the sets and the fines are stored in it. Jab bahut saara jama ho jaayega, we will have a huge party with that money.“

Payal Rohatgi to marry wrestler Sangram Singh in November 2015

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; February 11, 2015)

Actress Payal Rohatgi and fiancĂ© Sangram Singh, who got engaged in February last year, hope to get married this November. Initially , the couple had intended to tie the knot in November 2014. “That couldn't happen since Sangram needed to focus on the upcoming professional wrestling competition in South Africa. Having said that, I finally have a stable guy in my life and I wish to get married by this November. I hope it doesn't get pushed further,“ says Payal. Surprisingly, the actress has never seen Sangram wrestle in the three years that they have been together. She adds, “I can never be mentally prepared to see him being hit. Also, I cannot go to South Africa as I'm working on a reality show."

Sangram Singh to marry Payal Rohatgi after ‘death contract’ is over

Olympian wrestler Sangram Singh has recently signed a ‘Death Contract’ with the Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship that is to be held on February 28 at Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

The lethal game, says Sangram, will only leave one of the two players in the ring on his feet at the end of the game. “Serious injuries are very likely. I’ll be pitched against the world wrestling champ Joe Legend for the ‘last man standing’ match. When I played for this match last time I broke my nose and ribs. This time anything can happen. Hence the ‘Death Contract’ which means if anything happens to me, no one is to blame,” says Sangram.

The wrestling champ says he also wants to help other wrestlers financially. “I will use the money that I make from the ‘Last Man Standing’ match to help my colleagues. There are dozens of promising wrestlers in the country who can’t afford proper training. I want to use my name and money to help them.”

Shaadi to long-time girlfriend Payal Rohatgi has been pushed to November. “I want to see how the ‘Last Man Standing’ match goes. I want to concentrate on wrestling throughout the year. Payal and I will marry in November.”

Happy Birthday Salman Khan: What happened at the biggest birthday bash of the year?

DNA (December 28, 2014)

Enlarge ImageEnlarge ImageWhether he likes it or not, (and we suspect the latter is true) Salman Khan’s birthday is an event. On the eve of his birthday (December 26), all the Mercedes, Bentleys and BMWs headed from Mumbai to Panvel to the star’s farmhouse. Salman’s birthday has very few invitees, about 80 per cent of the guests are people who just drop in to wish the actor. Salman was walking up and down the party area for most part of the night, with all the guests claiming his attention. He was in good spirits laughing and was overheard telling one of the guests, “I am 27. I would have said 19. But then I would have a lot of growing up to do. So I prefer late twenties. It’s a good age.”

Friends, friends, friends!
Enlarge ImageEnlarge ImageThe actor had ordered vanity vans in case more guests wanted to stay over than his massive home could accommodate. His friends Suniel Shetty, Ajay Devgn and Sajid Nadiadwala seemed part of the welcome committee, they stood at the entrance. Or perhaps they just wanted to be away from the crowds. Riteish Deshmukh was sans his wife Genelia who is currently staying with her mom. Karan Johar was doing what he does better than anyone else...making jokes, dancing and posing with all the people who were grabbing him to pout for selfies. Sangram Singh was seen following Karan (rather being pushed by girlfriend Payal Rohatgi) to ask for an appointment, ‘Sir, main aapse milna chahta hoon’. Priyanka Chopra was walking hand-in-hand with her bestie Arpita, who is soon heading off to New Zealand for her honeymoon. Vidya Balan and Siddharth Roy Kapur looked as much in love as a newly wedded couple, no problem in that marriage clearly.

The Bigg Boss crowd
Enlarge ImageEnlarge ImageSalman can’t seem to shake them. The Bigg Boss folks were present in big numbers. Armaan Kohli, Diandra Soares, Gauahar Khan and Kushal Tandon, Deepshikha, Praneet Bhatt. Every direction you looked, there was a contestant from the reality show.

Into the night...
The bubbly flowed all night and Salman refused to let his friends leave “before sunrise”. The DJ played songs from Salman’s Kick (with Sajid Nadiadwala doing the by-now famous dance steps) to Happy New Year to many of Akshay and Ranbir’s hit songs.

Sangram Singh refuses Rs 2.5 cr offer to endorse RC Cola

Subhash K Jha (DNA; May 14, 2014)

RC Cola, the century-old American beverage has just lost an Indian ambassador. Known to be an iconic cola in the USA, it failed to impress Indian wrestler Sangram Singh enough to agree to endorse it in the country.

It is learnt that the company was willing to offer Sangram Rs 2.5 crore to be the Indian face of the cola but he declined the offer. “I don’t touch alcohol, cigarettes and colas. I’ve never tasted them. Why should I endorse something that I’ve never tried personally? Yes, I said no to RC Cola’s offer although the money was very good,” admits Sangram.

He feels celebrities, especially sportspersons, need to be very careful about the products they endorse. “Whole generations look up to us. We have to set the right example. Otherwise what kind of a society are we going to build for future generations?”

Sangram feels pained when he sees actors and sportspersons selling colas. “They are known to be harmful to health. It is wrong to sell harmful goods. We, from the entertainment and sports world, have voices that people listen to. We must use it to promote the right values and that includes the things that we eat, drink, wear and use.”

Sangram-Payal to get engaged on February 27; marriage in November

Renuka Vyavahare (BOMBAY TIMES; February 25, 2014)

After living in for about two-and-a-half years, wrestler Sangram Singh and actress Payal Rohatgi have decided to make their relationship official. The couple, currently in Ahmedabad where Payal’s father resides, will get engaged there on Thursday, on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The ceremony will be a low-key affair, with only a few family members attending it. The wedding is slated to happen this November and will be held on a grand scale.

Sangram said, “A lot of people told Payal that I’ll change after coming out of Bigg Boss. But my family values are intact. I don’t look at relationships as timepass. There is nothing wrong with live-in relationships, but given the kind of values that I’ve grown up with, marriage is important. My parents are happy with the decision.” He further joked, “Payal proposed to me. Maine socha, agar main Payal ko ab jhel sakta hoon, toh aage bhi jhel loonga.”

Payal added, “Many people thought since we met on a reality show and lived together, this could be one of those frivolous relationships, but we always knew that’s not true. However, the engagement came as a huge surprise. I am yet to do the shopping! We are in Ahmedabad to help my father out with a property deal. The men talked yesterday and it was decided that we get engaged on this very trip! My parents are getting old and everyone wants their children to settle down.”

About the proposal, Payal confessed, “I was the one who wanted to be with Sangram. I was the one who said, ‘I love you and let’s be together’. More than three years ago, we did a reality show, during which we spent some 45 days together. During that time, I realised that he is a man of his word. My parents were living separately for 16 years… he brought them together. Besides, I am hyper, while he is laid-back. He is the calming influence in my life. He is not fake and it’s rare to find someone like that in a city. We are very different as individuals, but we complete each other. Living together helped us know each other better. With him, I don’t have to pretend to be something I am not.”

I thought I would be the runner up-VJ Andy

Chhaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; December 26, 2013)

Andy, who got eliminated as a part of the mid-week elimination of Bigg Boss7 confesses that though he was never gunning to win, he thought he “will win the silver or bronze medal.” In fact, his elimination will come as a shock to his fans as he was among the top contenders to win the title. “Even I did not know that I had so many well-wishers. Inside the house, you have no clue what’s happening outside,” says Andy overwhelmed by the support for him. He, however, credits host Salman Khan as his biggest support. “If not for him and his valuable advice, I would have gone mad in the house. I used to look forward to Saturdays when I could speak to him,” says Andy, who had an eventful journey in the house.

First, he had a huge fight with Armaan Kohli, where the two ended up hurting each other with their offensive barbs and later a scuffle with Kushal Tandon ended with the latter ousted. “Yes, Armaan and I said a lot of painful things to each other but as I said Salman advised me and made things all right. As for Kushal, it was completely unexpected. Both of us had a great rapport initially but once he got involved with Gauahar he went in a different way,” points out Andy.

Ask him if he regrets the incident (he gave out intimate details of Gauahar and Pratyusha Banerjee’s lingerie) that led to the fight with Kushal and Andy accepts that “it was not the right platform to do that”. He, however, clarifies that he and Gauahar have known each other for seven years and being a stylist he has discussed about lingerie and body parts with her in the house several times. “At that point, I thought it was a light-hearted comment, but when I realised that I had stepped out of range, I stopped. Kushal’s reaction took me by surprise because it was not immediate. I made the comments in the morning and he manhandled me in the evening, which was unneccesary,” he points out. He is bewildered at the relationship between Kushal and Gauahar. “I am nobody to judge, but I find Kushal immature in a lot of ways. He needs to grow up. On the other hand, since I have known Gauahar and the kind of person she is, I don’t understand their relationship or them being together,” says Andy.

He, however, sees a strong connection between Tanishaa and Armaan and hopes Tanisha will win. “Tanisha and me were the jallad jodi and in the last three weeks, we started bonding again. She has been through a lot like me, so I want her to win,” says Andy. His other deep friendship with Sangram Singh saw some cracks after Rajat Sharma came into the house and showed the clip when Kushal was taking on Andy. “I was shocked to see Sangram just standing there not doing anything to help me. Later, I felt he must have had his own reasons for it,” he observes. Though they seemed to have made up, Andy left the house after a spat with him! And yet, if not Tanisha, Andy would love Sangram to win.
