Wrong to say audience’s viewing patterns have changed only due to OTT-Supriya Pathak

Soumitra Das (BOMBAY TIMES; June 3, 2025)
Supriya Pathak, who impressed audiences with her performance in the recent Gujarati film Auntypreneur, says that “it is a great time for Gujarati and other regional films.” The veteran actress, who has done Gujarati films like Kehvatlal Parivar (2022) and Carry On Kesar (2017), was in Ahmedabad recently.
She shares, “Be it Gujarati cinema or other regional films, I feel they are offering more interesting stories as compared to Hindi cinema. In Gujarati films, young directors are willing to explore new genres and I like their way of working, as they are very flexible and open to experimentation. They know their craft well.”
‘I get attracted to stories that have a fun element’
In Auntypreneur, Pathak played a 65-year-old woman (Jasuben) who teams up with other homemakers to claim their financial independence and save their housing society from demolition. She shares, “The film was offered to me long back and while I found the story interesting, the project got delayed due to COVID. Today, there is so much tragedy all around us. I get attracted to stories that have a fun element. This film had a beautiful message that was narrated in a fun way.”
She adds, “It was great to work with Abhishek Jain (director and producer) and Pratik Rajen Kothari (director of Auntypreneur). Pratik is very talented, sincere, and focused. I have also known Abhishek since the days of Bey Yaar (2014) and we always wanted to work together. I feel he has played a big role in the revival of Gujarati cinema and I loved all his films. It’s always great to collaborate with intelligent people who want to do good work. However, it’s still a bit of a battle to get audiences to theatres to watch Gujarati films. The industry needs more support from the audience.”
‘Wrong to say audience’s viewing patterns have changed only due to OTT’
Pathak, who has done OTT projects like Tabbar, Home Shanti and Cartel, says, “It’s wrong to say audience’s viewing patterns have changed only due to OTT.” She feels, “It’s got more to do with very little concentration level, as people are constantly on Instagram and checking their smartphones. If you are scrolling mindlessly all the time, it becomes difficult to engage with a story.”
Many viewers complain about an overdose of thrillers on OTT platforms. Asked about it, she says, “I feel all the mediums (OTT, TV and theatres) can complement each other. If the content is similar on all platforms, then what’s the point? Every medium should have its unique content. I want to see more interesting stories on OTT.”
‘It’s important to let your kids make their own decisions’
Talking about her actress-daughter Sanah Kapur, Pathak says, “Today, kids are well-informed and capable individuals. As parents, it’s important to let your kids make their own decisions. Even if they falter initially, they will learn from it. I am always there for Sanah, but I don’t think there is any need to constantly guide her.”
She adds, “We share a great bond. In recent times, she has tried to convince me to join Instagram, but I have said no. For me, it’s (joining Instagram) too much pressure (laughs)!”
‘I love the vibe of Ahmedabad’
While shooting for Kehvatlal Parivar, I stayed in Ahmedabad for a long duration. I love the vibe of the city. It’s really unique because while it has the buzz of a big city, Ahmedabad has still retained a unique charm that you usually find in small towns. The city has a nice pace to it, and I love the food here.
How to tell a good joke is an art, not everyone can crack it-Supriya Pathak

Soumitra Das (BOMBAY TIMES; May 5, 2025)
While Hansa, Supriya Pathak’s character in the Khichdi franchise, remains one of the most memorable comic characters on Indian television, Pathak surprises us when she says, “I am not a good joke teller at all. Every time I tell a joke, it falls flat. How to tell a good joke is also an art, not everyone can crack it.” OnWorld Laughter Day, the veteran actress talks about why playing Hansa was tough, and why she feels doing good comedy “is the toughest job.” Excerpts:
‘What Charlie Chaplin did was extremely difficult’
I feel doing comedy is the toughest job. An actor can use glycerin and cry to convince the audience of a sad emotion. However, making someone laugh is extremely difficult. As an actor, if I am having fun while playing a character, then the audience will enjoy it too. In my latest Gujarati film (Auntypreneur), while it’s not an out-and-out comedy, there are fun moments and I enjoy playing such characters. While doing a comic scene, if even one actor messes up the comic timing, the joke falls flat. I feel when it comes to comedies that have double meaning jokes, it’s not difficult for actors. But slapstick is tough; what Charlie Chaplin did was extremely difficult. There are a lot of shades in comedy.
‘Initially, creating Hansa’s character was a bit difficult’
Hansa has always been a people pleaser, isn’t it (smiles)? I love Hansa, and it (playing her character) has been a fabulous journey. Before I started playing that character, preparing for it was a bit difficult. Hansa literally does nothing, and whenever she does anything, she creates a mess. So, how do you make her interesting for the audience? I had to work hard to make Hansa such an innocent person that the audience would believe in her. I am grateful that her innocence was accepted by the audience. I tried to ensure that Hansa comes across as a lovely, child-like person, like a loving baby. In real life, if a woman of Hansa's age behaves like that, you will probably slap her (laughs)! But I think we managed to create the kind of innocence that made audiences accept her whole-heartedly.
‘Sanah’s classmates would tease her in school, saying-Teri mom toh Hansa hai’
When Sanah (her daughter) was young, her classmates in school would tease her, saying, ‘Teri mom toh Hansa hai, unn ko toh kuch nahi aata. What do you guys eat? We are sure she doesn’t even know how to cook.’ It was quite funny because I am exactly the opposite in real life - a complete workaholic who is an expert at all household chores. Sanah would get very angry and tell them, ‘No, my mama is not like that! She is a fabulous cook.’ I am glad that the character found that kind of connect with the audience.
Supriya’s favourite comedies:
Charlie Chaplin’s films, Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Laurel and Hardy’s films, Films of Marx Brothers, Khichdi, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai

Binny And Family actor Pankaj on how artistes today are spoilt for choice, thanks to multiple platforms, and can build their career as per their goal
Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; September 9, 2024)
When Pankaj Kapur first said yes to Binny And Family, it revolved around a girl and her grandfather. Years later, when debutant director Ssanjay Tripaathy returned to the veteran actor to finally take the film forward, the story had been tweaked.
“It had become about the girl, her father and grandfather. But I still wanted to do the film because I liked what Ssanjay wanted to say with it. Adding another generation only gave more depth to the film,” he says.
In Binny And Family, newcomer Anjini Dhawan plays a spirited granddaughter to Kapur’s orthodox patriarch. While the slice-of-life movie revolves around generation gap and the characters’ conflicting ideas, on set, the veteran maintained a relationship of equals with his young co-star.
“I don’t think in terms of seniority. I think of us as equal actors and give that respect to my co-stars, irrespective of their age and experience. I give suggestions if they ask, but I don’t believe in patronizing young actors. They are capable on their own.”
Treating everyone as equal and not carrying the baggage of seniority is an idea that he developed early on in his life. Kapur credits his parents for inculcating the value in him. “I was brought up with the philosophy that nothing is hard and fast in life. One should be able to make their own opinion, [not thrust] it on others and let them live the way they want to. I gave the same [values] to my family.”
It is this approach that has made his bond stronger with his kids—actor-son Shahid Kapoor, Sanah and Ruhaan Kapur. “We’re a close-knit family. At the same time, everybody is independent. We don’t come in each other’s way and respect everyone’s individuality. We connect with each other when we get an opportunity; we do not make it a compulsion.”
In his 40-year career, the actor has witnessed many changes in the industry. The one that leaves him marvelling is how actors are spoilt for choice today. “There is no dearth of good projects today. In our times, there were no projects or platforms. We could hardly get a film a year. Today, there are so many platforms. But today’s actors also have to be careful as to what they are working [towards]—their craft and survival, or bank balance, cars and flats. My approach was mainly craft, but for survival, one had to be smart enough to know that you have do a little bit of both. If you see my filmography, you will understand that some projects were done so that I stayed afloat.”
I could relate to my character in Saroj Ka Rishta on a personal level-Sanah Kapur

Sanah Kapur says she was drawn to Saroj Ka Rishta as it champions body positivity
Uma Ramasubramanian (MID-DAY; September 12, 2022)
It has been a significant year for Sanah Kapur who tied the knot with Mayank Pahwa in March. Now, it’s work calling the actor as she readies for the release of Saroj Ka Rishta. Director Abhishek Saxena’s slice-of-life film takes on body shaming as it tells the story of Saroj, essayed by Kapur, who tries to lose weight to woo the man of her dreams. “It felt great to be a part of a project that deals with an issue that all of us face — that of not being accepted if you are different. I believe that everyone is special in their own way,” says the actor, happy to return to the screen almost seven years since Shaandaar (2015).
Giving her nod to the film was a no-brainer. She not only aligned with the movie’s message of body positivity, but also identified with the central character. “Saroj and I share a lot of similarities. I am not as courageous and bold as she is, but I agree with her opinions on certain points. So, I could relate to the character on a personal level.”
The September 16 release also stars Supriya Pathak, Kumud Mishra and Gaurav Pandey. Kapur notes that the director has woven a beautiful bond between Saroj and her father, who encourages her to become self-reliant instead of bowing down to society’s norms.
“One of the things that attracted me was how beautifully the father-daughter relationship was written. It was an honour to share this on-screen bond with Kumud Mishra. If a father is there for his daughter and believes in her, it gives her the strength to be herself.”
Supriya Pathak keen to work with Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur

Vinay MR Mishra (HINDUSTAN TIMES; March 9, 2022)
Actor Supriya Pathak has been on repose for the last couple of days. Her daughter, actor Sanah Kapur, married actor Mayank Pahwa in an intimate ceremony in Mahabaleshwar last week. And while it was a “small event”, Supriya and her husband, actor Pankaj Kapur “were geared up to make it memorable for the guests”. “I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” says Supriya, as she talks about her daughter’s marriage.
The photos from the wedding have been doing the rounds on social media and one featuring Surpiya, Pankaj, and actor-couple Ratna Pathak Shah (Supriya’s sister) and Naseeruddin Shah caught everyone’s attention. In fact, a Twitter user commented, ‘Somebody cast them together in a film please.’ Mention this to her and Supriya quips, “Somebody listen to them (laughs). If someone wants to make a film, we have all the actors in the family. Even my younger son is making his debut.”
Ask her what it’s like when all the veterans are under one roof and she says, “Pagalpan. It’s crazy. We don’t talk about work, as we have a lot to talk about.”
Talking about how the wedding ceremony of her daughter unfolded, she shares, “Sanah looked like a fairy. When she walked down [the aisle] with her father, they played a beautiful song (the Punjabi folk track, Madhaniya). It was an emotional moment. I cried for quite a bit. But then, I was elated when they spoke the vows.”
On a parting note, the Khichdi actor calls actors Manoj and Seema Pahwa (the groom’s parents) “family” and adds, “We have known each other for centuries. Mayank is like my son.”

The wedding season is in full swing in Bollywood. Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak’s daughter Sanah tied the knot yesterday with Manoj and Seema Pahwa’s son Mayank. The couple got married surrounded by their family and friends in Mahabaleshwar. The pre-wedding festivities like mehendi and sangeet took place on Tuesday night.
Sanah, who is Shahid Kapoor’s sister, had shared screen space with the actor in the film Shaandaar. Sanah’s cousin, Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah’s son, Vivaan shared some videos on social media in which the family could be seen welcoming the couple to the beats of dhol. Later, they danced to a medley of Bollywood songs.
When we reached out to Pankaj Kapur, he confirmed the news. Though he was busy with the celebrations and wanted to stay tight-lipped about the shaadi, he said, “I don’t want to talk much about this, but yes, it is my daughter’s wedding and that’s about it.”
The Kapurs and Pahwas have been family friends for many years and Sanah and Mayank have known each other for a long time.
Shahid Kapoor told me to enjoy what I love doing-Sanah Kapur

Sanah Kapur kicked off her first film as leading lady on Monday in the presence of parents Pankaj and Supriya
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 11, 2018)
On Tuesday, Sanah Kapur, who made her acting debut in brother Shahid Kapoor’s Shaandar in 2015, kicked off her first film as the leading lady. Her parents, veteran actors Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak, were present on the sets of the Abhishek Saxena-directed Saroj Ka Rishta, to watch the mahurat shot. “We were in the middle of a scene when they walked in. Like everyone else, I want to make my parents proud. I was nervous initially but once the camera is on, you are the character and I told myself it was Sanah’s parents in front of me, not Saroj’s,” the actress tells Mirror.
The film kicked off with a song and Sanah is all praise for choreographer Shabina Khan.“She doesn’t just choreograph a song, she integrates the characters in it. I’m enjoying playing Saroj because she is dabang and moohphat which is fun,” the actress smiles.
The film, which explores a father-daughter relationship, also addresses the culture of body-shaming in India. “I feel strongly about it. It’s important to be comfortable and true to yourself because every human being is unique. It’s wrong to fit everyone in one box. If we want to change it should only be for ourselves. This subject is really close to my heart,” she expounds.
The schedule kicked off in Mumbai and the team will soon head to North India. And even though it is her first lead role, Sanah insists she isn’t feeling any pressure.
“At the moment, I’m not thinking about my responsibility towards the film. That will happen during the promotions. Right now, I’m just trying to be Saroj, bring the character out to the audience and hope they love her as much as we do,” she points out.
Any advice from big brother Shahid? “He just told me to have fun and enjoy what I love doing,” she says. When asked about Shahid’s half-brother Ishaan Khatter, whose new film, Dhadak, is to hit the marquee soon, Sanah says shortly, “I don’t have any advice for anyone except for myself. One should focus on work and be honest with their craft. I do this job because I love it.”
Shahid Kapoor's sister Sanah Kapur to feature in Saroj Ka Rishta, a film on body shaming

The actress plays the lead in a romcom three years after her debut in a film headlined by elder brother Shahid Kapoor
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; July 4, 2018)
After making her Bollywood debut with Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar that had featured her brother Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead, Sanah Kapur will be seen in director Abhishek Saxena’s Saroj Ka Rishta, which deals with the culture of body-shaming in India. Sanah will start shooting for the romcom in August in Ghaziabad and Mawana.
“As a fat person, I have noticed that body-shaming doesn’t happen only with those who are on the heavier side, but also with thin people. The idea germinated from there. The film essentially revolves around a father-daughter relationship with Kumud Mishra and Sana at the centre. There is also a love triangle with the two heroes Gaurav Pandey and Randeep Rai,” informs the director, who takes the film on the floors this month with writer Deepak Kapoor Bhardwaj.
Meanwhile, Sana says that she fell in love with her character. “I am looking forward to mould myself into someone who is from a completely different culture. It’s mysterious and offers great scope for exploration,” she explains.
Abhishek knew he had found his protagonist when he saw Sanah in Shaandaar. “She is like Saroj in real life too. Her character shares a fabulous relationship with her father who is worried about being separated from her when she gets married and insists that she find a man who can stay with them,” he laughs.
Prod Sanah on her second film since Shaandaar and she says, “I took a year to concentrate on theatre to help myself improve as an actor while looking for a script that I wanted to be a part of. I also did a feature that released recently (Khajoor Pe Atke) and dabbled in some short films as well,” she signs off.
I am not a star kid. My parents are actors-Sanah Kapur

Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; May 18, 2018)
Sanah Kapur, daughter of actors Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur, is happy that her parents never planned a filmi launch for her. The actress, who made her debut with half-brother Shahid Kapoor in Shaandaar (2015), will now be seen in Harsh Chhaya’s black comedy Khajoor Pe Atke. In an interview with BT, she talks about the nepotism debate, about carving her own identity and wanting to be unique.
Since you belong to a family of actors, did you ever feel the pressure of audience expectations? Do you feel your parents, Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur’s image as actors will influence the kind of roles that are offered to you?
I only do roles that excite me. I am not thinking of what kind of expectations people have from me because it is futile to think about it so much. I am just trying my best like everyone else in the film industry. I literally grew up on film sets so doing a film was not something new for me. But just like individuals who don’t belong to film families, we too have our struggles, albeit in different ways. I admit that there is a certain vision filmmakers have, when you belong to a family of actors, and they might offer you roles depending on that. My growing up years were spent with friends who grew up to be pilots, engineers or doctors. Also, this nepotism debate does not hold true for me because my parents have never been in the centre of things in Bollywood. They have never picked up the phone and asked someone to give me a role. My parents have always wanted me to have my own struggle and carve an identity on my own. That’s why when people ask me, ‘why did your parents not launch you with a film?’ I honestly answer, neither me nor my parents wanted it that way. In fact, when I was chosen for Shaandaar, Vikas Bahl was not even aware that Shahid is my brother. He auditioned me and informed bhaiyya about it much later, when he came to know of my true identity.
Your film Khajoor Pe Atke is also a comedy like your debut, Shaandaar. What was new about this film and your role?
I play the daughter of Manoj Pahwa, who is the eldest brother of the family. While the whole family is worried about a relative’s health, my character has her own agendas and is trying to connect with a bigger city because she has always lived in a small town. It was a lot of fun playing this character because there was scope to do something different from what I had done before in my debut film.
Talking of Manoj Pahwa, it is believed that you are engaged to Manoj and Seema Pahwa’s son Mayank?
Really? I will keep my mouth shut on this and say ‘No comments’.
How was it working with actor-turned-director Harsh Chhaya, and sharing the set with actors like Manoj, Seema and Vinay Pathak?
When you work with a director who has worked in films as an actor, he understands the requirements of an actor. Harsh made us comfortable and was happy to let us explore a lot more than what we expected. There was a lot of freedom to improvise on scenes and I learnt a lot from all the actors. We were like one big, happy family on the sets.
Most Bollywood actors’ sons and daughters spend a lot of time and effort styling and grooming themselves. They’re all over social media too and are always present at the right place, at the right time. We don’t see you accompanying your parents or brother at public events though. Is it a conscious effort?
Like I said before, I was brought up like a normal child. Our work and family lives are different and though I take my parents’ feedback on many things, I have never been to any parties, especially when I grew up. It is only after Shaandaar, when I got invited, that I started attending parties. Most importantly, I am not a star kid. My parents are actors. I am acting because I am passionate about the craft and so I feel I should just go with the flow. Tomorrow, if I have to style or groom myself for a role, I will be happy doing it, but otherwise I believe in being true to who I am. I am proud of how I am conducting myself and I love myself. I did the role of a fat girl in Shaandaar, who doesn’t find a guy because she’s obese, as it offered me something different. I think it is important to be unique and enjoy what you do, rather than do something that everyone else is doing.
You mentioned before that Mira Kapoor does not like you calling her bhabhi…
(Laughs!) That’s a joke we share. Mira is younger than me and so when I started calling her bhabhi, she felt a bit odd and requested that I not do that.

Sanah Kapur, who had
recently made her debut in brother Shahid Kapoor's Shaandaar, planned a
family trip to Goa to bring in mother Supriya Pathak's 55th birthday.
Shahid and Mira were expected to join them but the 34-year-old-actor had
to cancel at the last minute because of his tight schedule.
“I'm very close to my mother, she's been more of a friend and always made my birthday special. So this time I decided to take charge and make her big day a memorable one,“ says Sanah, who along with father Pankaj and brother Rohan surprised Supriya by decorating the hotel room with balloons and candles. “Goa is my mother's most favourite destination,“ Sanah exclaimed. And the doting daughter made sure her mom didn't miss her staple khana of a special Gujarati thali in Goa.

Subhash Singh is all set to roll his next film, a
comedy, which will star Shahid Kapoor’s sister Sanah, their father
Pankaj and Sanah’s mother Supriya Pathak and his aunt Ratna Pathak Shah.
Ratna’s husband Naseeruddin Shah is expected to do a cameo in the film,
as is Katrina Kaif. The film will be directed by Karan Kashyap, who has
assisted Mani Ratnam earlier.
Subhash says that he’s deciding between two titles — Atrangay and Too Much Mach Mach. “It’s along the lines of Andaz Apna Apna and has been written by Dilip Shukla, who has written films like Dabangg, Ghayal, Andaz Apna Apna and Ziddi. The film is an all-out comedy. TV actor Parth Samthaan of Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan fame will play the male lead opposite Sanah. Sanah will play Supriya’s daughter in the film while Ratna will play Supriya’s sister. We are trying to decide whether Pankaj will play Sanah’s father or something else. We also want Naseer to do a cameo in the film. It’s about the sisters marrying into the same house and the insecurities arising between them.”
Only Shahid is missing from this family-cum-comedy entertainer. “We want Shahid to do a cameo too. It’s such a film where there will be scope for comedy and many cameos so I want Katrina, Raveena, Karisma and Salman to do special appearances in the film as well.”

Her brother has been travelling, "sending love from the middle of nowhere", leaving all the prep to Mrs Kapoor. He will join the family festivities on D-day.
"All of us love Punjabi food so rajma, chana, paneer and mithai will definitely be on the menu. But don't ask me more, only bhabhi knows all the details," Sanah laughs, adding that she gets along really well with her sister-in-law. "We hit it off even before the wedding. Mira is an amazing girl and has quickly become such an integral part of our family. She keeps telling me not to call her bhabhi as we are both the same age but I still do."
Sanah remembers going on vacations with her family to different parts of the country to bring in Diwali. "I have been celebrating with friends for the last few years. We meet, light diyas, gorge on good food and play games. And I love dressing up in traditional clothes," she says.
Sanah has one more thing to look forward to as she brings in the festival of lights— she will be making her social media debut this Diwali. "I am not very good with tech but a lot of people have been telling me to go on Facebook and Twitter. And I finally am," says the star kid.
And is she disappointed that her first film, which also featured her father, Pankaj Kapur, and brother Shahid, didn't live up to expectations? "No, not really, people have appreciated my performance," she shrugs, saying she has been reading scripts and might do another film with her father.

Shahid and Mira, who are celebrating their first Diwali together are hosting a bash
Upala KBR (DNA; November 10, 2015)
Shahid Kapoor, who will be celebrating his first
Diwali with wife Mira Rajput, is hosting an intimate get-together for
his close friends and family tomorrow night at his Juhu apartment.
Mira’s family from Delhi is expected to join the couple as will his
mother Neelima Azim and his younger brother Ishaan, father Pankaj Kapur
with wife Supriya and their two children. Shahid, who has just returned
from Sri Lanka from a brief holiday with Mira on Sunday, has been
calling his friends to invite them over.
Shahid’s mother Neelima confirms, “This Diwali, like our usual ones, we will be lighting diyas, visiting each other’s homes and exchanging gifts. Diwali for us, is special family time. Shahid and Mira will come over during the day and will have a party on Diwali night which will be attended by close friends and family. Usually, we divide the parties between grown-ups and youngsters, but not this year. After some time, the grown-ups will take off and the youngsters will be left alone.” It’s also the first year she gets to spend Diwali with her daughter-in-law. “Yes. I’ll give her a gift too. But it’s not just on Diwali. I always give something or the other to Mira.”
The proud saas is all praise for Mira. “She’s a nice down-to-earth and grounded girl who has given us a lot of love. Mira is very relaxed and natural and now a part of the family. Ishaan calls her Barbie Doll and she loves it.”

Alia Bhatt talks about her pairing with Shah Rukh Khan in Gauri Shinde’s next and more
Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; October 10, 2015)
The marketing campaign of Shaandaar has reached a crescendo with lead pair Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor trying to bait in as many guests as possible for the destination wedding drama. The upcoming film is special for the actress for more reasons than one: working with three actors from the same family — Pankaj Kapur, Shahid and his half-sister Sanah, apart from the fact that she sees 90 per cent of herself in the quirky character she essays.
“When I put on costumes, it didn’t feel like I was someone else. For example, I wore boots with traditional wear, just like I would do in real life. The entire shoot was a memorable experience. My co-stars made me feel at home. I worked closely with Pankaj sir since he plays my father in the film. He is a great actor and made me feel comfortable with his warm nature. He allowed me to do the scenes in my own style. Shahid and Sanah are also hardworking professionals,” she says.
Alia will share screen space with Shahid in Udta Punjab, which also features Kareena Kapoor Khan. Though the shooting has wrapped up, she doesn’t want to discuss the film at this point. “There is nothing I can say that will sum up my experience. It was extremely challenging. I got a chance to be part of a world different from my own. I have never been that exhausted, and happily so, after playing a character,” she reveals.
She is also teaming up with Shah Rukh Khan for Gauri Shinde’s untitled next. Is she feeling butterflies in her stomach? “Of course, I am nervous and excited. I want to go and see what I can learn from him. I want to make the most out of the moment. I have interacted with him at a couple of social events and he’s always been warm,” she says.
Having tasted both critical and commercial success, the 22-year-old has become choosy about scripts now. “For me, the audience’s response matters the most. Highway was appreciated, but was not a money-spinner like 2 States. While choosing any script, I ask myself if I will be able to reach out to a wider audience. I want people to remember me by my character’s name or a song featuring me. Like, people still know me as Radha from that song in my debut film, Student of The Year,” smiles Alia.
Is Radha seeing Krishna, er, Sidharth Malhotra, her co-star from the 2012 film? Alia purses her lips and says, “I have maintained that I will never comment on any relationship which is personal.”

Shahid Kapoor finally gave up his 'eligible bachelor' tag on Tuesday as he exchanged wedding vows with Delhi girl Mira Rajput in a simple ceremony in Gurgaon.
The wedding took place as per Arya Samaj rituals at West Green Farmhouse in Rajokri under a thick blanket of security.

Says a source, "It began at 11 am and was over in one-and-half hours. The Kapoors and Rajputs were certain that they wanted it to be an intimate affair. There were just about 40-odd people present for the nuptials. After a brief photo session as man and wife, the couple partied along with their respective families and close friends at the Trident Hotel where the reception took place." Another reception has also been planned on July 12 at the Palladium Hotel in Lower Parel here for Shahid's industry colleagues.

While Kunal Rawal designed Shahid's traditional outfit, Anamika Khanna had done up the 21-year-old bride's trousseau. The wedding menu included a lavish vegetarian fare as the couple's families are followers of the Radha Saomi Satsang Beas.

A source close to the actor reveals, "The road leading to the venue was cordoned off to keep gatecrashers as well as the paparazzi at bay. The walls of the farmhouse are 16-feet high and there was tight security."

In the build-up to the actor's big day, his friends had started posting pictures of the couple at their sangeet ceremony. Mira wore a yellow Banaras brocade lehenga pairing it with a peach choli designed by Anita Dongre.

Sharing details of the pre-wedding festivities, Reshma Ruhi, one of the girls who applied mehndi on Mira's hands, says: "We had been called to do the mehndi for six people. I was called through a common friend of the Rajputs. The bride opted for a full design on her palms and a small pattern outside with a delicate floral henna art on her feet.

She also got Shahid's initials etched on her palms. Some other guests including Shahid's mother Neelima Azim also applied mehndi along with two of his friends who had flown in from Mumbai. The couple looked very nice together." It is said the girls were given Rs 1 lakh as shagun.

Ever heard of kids growing up together, remaining best friends through their teens, then falling in love in the blink of an eye and getting married? It happens only in Mills & Boons... and the movies.
That's the plot of Lara Dutta's comeback love story, Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi, which is set in picturesque Darjeeling and produced by her husband, tennis ace, Mahesh Bhupathi. It pairs her with the intense Kay Kay Menon. "They're like a couple straight out of a romantic novel, lots of sparks and nok jhoks," asserts debutante director Jyothi Kapur Das.
The film also features four couples and has Rajeev Khandelwal in a guest appearance. "There are five heroes and four heroines, only Rajeev has no partner," says Jyothi.
Mirror (January 15) had earlier reported that Pankaj Kapur and daughter Sanah are a part of the ensemble cast. The director informs that Himansh Kohli who debuted in 2014 with Yaariyan will play Sanah's love interest. "They play carefree teenagers in love who haven't entered the real world yet," she adds.
After young love comes the Lara-Kay Kay duo. The director insists that the vivacious Lara is a perfect foil for the brooding actor. "I was impressed with his off the cuff one-liners during the script-reading session. He got under the skin of his character with just a few lines, he's so intuitive," she avers.
Pankaj Kapur is the star of the twilight romance. Buzz is, Pooja Bhatt will make her big screen comeback as his love interest. But all Jyothi will say about the casting coup is, "Pankaj will be romancing an actress who is also a director."

While Vikas Bahl's Shandaar, which will mark her debut as an actress is yet to release, Sanah Kapur, Shahid Kapoor's younger sister, has already bagged her next project. Shandaar also features her father Pankaj Kapur in a prominent role, and in her second film too Sanah will share screenspace with daddy.
A source told Mirror that the youngster has been roped in for a film titled Abhi Nahi Toh Kabhi Nahi, produced by Lara Dutta, her husband Mahesh Bhupathi and Virender Arora.
Said a source close to the development, "The film is a romantic, family comedy and it deals with four couples of varying ages and their love stories. While Sanah is part of the youngest couple, Pankaj, will be seen romancing a younger actress."
The source added that the makers are bullish on the actress and after a few rounds of narration, locked her for the part. "She represents the voice of the youth in a film that has people from all age groups," added the source.
The film also features Kay Kay Menon, Rajeev Khandelwal but will also see Lara Dutta in a prominent role. It is expected to go on floors in May this year and will be extensively shot in Darjeeling.
When asked if it was her father who recommended her for the role, our source said, "No, he didn't even know that she's been approached and it was Sanah herself who broke the news to Pankaj that she's doing yet another film with him."

Shahid Kapoor on his upcoming film, Haider, working with his father and sister, and the desire to do a dance- based project
Asira Tarannum (MID-DAY; September 21, 2014)
Q. How was the experience of shooting for your upcoming film Haider?
A. Haider is cinema of passion. I am proud that I got an opportunity to be a part of it, and am hopeful that the audiences will appreciate the film. Today, young actors are taking up projects that are mainstream in an unconventional kind of way. This helps cinema evolve, as such films allow us to explore ourselves as actors and do more original work. If you are in a space which has been tried before, you cease to grow. But Haider is genuinely something unique, and when I took it up, it gave me that feeling of being in an uncomfortable space. I feel more comfortable in uncomfortable spaces because that’s when I try to do probably something totally different.
Q. You have just got back from London, where you were shooting for Shaandaar with your father (Pankaj Kapur) and your sister (Sanah) who makes her debut in the film.
A. We didn’t shoot together much, but on the first day, I found it difficult to stand in the same frame as my father. It was scary. But from the second day, I started enjoying it and then we found ‘our thing’. Out of the 12-13 day of the shoot schedule, we only shot together for four to five days. I was busy clicking pictures of Sanah’s first shot. I was like, “Oh God! She is doing a movie, what’s going on?” I think it’s great because she is getting to work with Vikas (Bahl) who is a great director. She is a responsible kid. She assisted dad during his directorial venture, Mausam, in which I played the lead role. She has spent time behind the camera learning the nuances of filmmaking.
Q. You are one of the best dancers in the industry. Will we be seeing you in a dance-based film?
A. I should do a dance film, na? I have been engulfed with this feeling for a month now. My brother Ishaan is a better dancer than me. He constantly tells me that I have to dance before I grow old. Yes, I want to do a dance film.
Q. You have been linked to a few of your female co-stars recently. How do you react to it?
A. I have been linked to only one or two, here and there, I have the cleanest record (winks). I am the take-home-to-mummy type of a guy. I really am. One day people will know I am a nice guy. On certain days I see my dad sitting in a really grumpy mood. When I ask him what’s wrong, he will be like: “Yeh dekho kya likha hai, yeh tumhare peeche kyun pade hain? Yeh kaun hai? Tum toh mile bhi nahi ho inse? Kyun likh rahe hain aise? Look what is being written about you. Why are they behind you, you haven’t even met her)” I have learnt not to react to these rumours. I’m calm right now, but sometimes it’s really bizarre.
Q. You had once mentioned that you are commitment phobic. Are you still the same?
A. My phobias keep changing. But there’s always some phobia. I am no longer commitment phobic. I would be happy if something happened, but I am never looking forward for a relationship to work out. That’s forcing it. It has to be a natural, organic process and if it happens organically then I would be happy. If a relationship blossoms, I won’t complain.
Q. Earlier you had said that you have made some bad decisions in your career. Looking at your career graph, do you regret any of the decisions of the past?
A. Anyone who says that they haven’t made bad decisions is lying, or doesn’t have perspective. Everyone has made bad decisions at some point in their lives. You don’t regret those decisions. Ithink it’s important to realise that the decision was an unfavourable one. Regret is an emotion, which should largely be avoided, as it leads to depression and negativity. There is something you take away from every film. Probably you learn more from an unsuccessful film than a successful one. As an artiste, there are always experiences that you can cherish and take lessons from. They help you grow as a person. There will always be instances you wish you had avoided because they didn’t enrich you in any way. I would call them mistakes. The success or failure of a film should not change the way you felt while working on the film. A movie may not do well at the box office, but it should fulfill you as an actor.

Shahid Kapoor is bracing for some tough competition, and this time from his own kin
Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; August 16, 2014)
Shahid Kapoor has competition at home, from his half brothers and sister.
While his mother Neelima Azim's son with her second husband Rajesh Khattar, Ishaan, is gearing up for his Bollywood debut, Shahid's father Pankaj Kapur's children with his present wife Supriya Pathak, Sanah (23) and Ruhaan (20), have also got their eyes on the silver screen.
A friend of Pankaj told Mirror, "Sanah and Ruhaan love films and both aspire to become actors."
Confirming this, Pankaj said: "Sanah and Ruhaan have trained in acting. Sanah took a course in New York City, while Ruhaan honed his acting skills in London. I am so proud of them."
So, will Pankaj direct a film for them? Pat comes the reply, "I definitely will. But not right away. I think they should first make a place in the industry on their own."
Added the friend; "Pankaj didn't direct Shahid when he started out though if he had wanted, he could have. He believes that his children should stand on their own feet without his help. That will make them stronger."
Pankaj's previous and only directorial venture Mausam (2011), starring Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor didn't fare well at the box-office.
