LOVE AAJ KAL collected 1.50 crore nett in its second weekend which is almost 95% down from the first weekend. The ten day numbers of the film are just a little over 32.50 crore nett which is a disaster considering the first day was nearly 12 crore nett.

The way this film is going it will not even do three times its first day collections in its lifetime run and as far as acceptance by the audience, goes this is the worst of this year so far as other major duds like CHHAPAAK and PANGA did not even crash out in this way.

MALANG went ahead of LOVE AAJ KAL on Friday. It was the second Friday for LOVE AAJ KAL while it was third Friday for MALANG. This now means the film is sure to cross 55 crore nett and could even reach 60 crore nett as there is still another weekend left till BAAGHI 3 with little competition next week.

There have been films like CHHAPAAK, PANGA and SHIKARA which have been rejected hugely but this rejection is at another level.

MALANG collected a decent 13.25 crore nett in its second week which took its total to 51 crore nett. A 15 crore nett plus total would have been a good result for the film but the collections did drop over the second weekend as it could not collect a double digit number.

The film held steady over the weekdays which was probably helped by the rejection of LOVE AAJ KAL. MALANG was pretty risky as it had high costs for the face value and these type of films need a start. But the makers have to go away with it as the film will do a worldwide theatrical share of around 30 crore which will be recovered as other revenue sources will get 35-40 crore. The film was called a disaster on release but will have a decent little run.

MALANG collected 7.75 crore nett in its second weekend which is fair collections but considering the low first weekend and the Valentines Day boost on Friday it needed to get double digits then it would have been a good second weekend. That would have meant a 55-60 crore nett lifetime while now it will have to settle for 50-55 crore nett.

Its still a decent result for the makers to get over 50 crore nett with this cast and this genre which needs face value and the 30 crore worldwide theatrical share needed for recovery may just happen. But if the budget was as per the face value, then this film would have been through in the first weekend itself. A 50 crore nett plus lifetime number looked impossible considering the sort of opening it took on its first Friday morning.

The film is doing more than 60% of its business in Maharashtra. In many circuits its on the last legs but strong numbers in Maharashtra means good daily numbers even in week six.

If the second Friday will get advantage of Valentines Day, it has to get as near as possible to the Thursday number. The second weekend in crucial for the film and it needs a weekend in double digits which is possible for the film. The film is doing 50 crore nett at the very least and you would take that with the likes of Aditya Kapur, Kunal Khemu and Anil Kapoor in your film as face value especially with this genre where face value is very important to get that start. Also, its not a concept film where you can do numbers irrespective of the cast. This film did not get the start but has held up better than expected.

The film has held well on Monday but the problem becomes that low weekend business as the film needed a 30 crore nett weekend and then this sort of hold would actually be taking it somewhere. The Monday hold keeps the film in the race but cannot afford to drop over the weekdays and then  a strong second weekend. Valentines Day on Friday should give it a boost and the second weekend has to be in double digits.

MALANG collected 24 crore nett its first weekend which are reasonable numbers but the weekend trend is not really there to suggest that the film can go on from here. The film needed to reaching double digits on Sunday especially as the film is more for markets outside the metros which have best collections on Sunday.

The film has done a little better in Maharashtra, Gujarat/Saurashtra and Nizam Andhra but even here, it does not look as if the film can go on as the collections cant be called good. The Monday number is crucial for the film and it cannot afford to have that normal 50% drop if it is to sustain after the first week. The collections across the Hindi belt are not what they should be for this genre and this is probably because it could not get a start on day one due to the face value.

SHIKARA could not do much over the weekend as it collected 4.50 crore nett. The first day collections were actually respectable for a film with no faces but it could not go on from there probably as the content is not upto the mark. The film had to double up on Saturday but that did not happen and then Sunday the film was basically flat with no growth which does not give much hope for the long run.

MALANG did pretty well on Saturday as it jumped around 30% to collect 8.25-8.50 crore nett Saturday which takes the total of the film to around 14.75 crore nett. Its a decent jump for a action/thriller film though 50-60% would be optimum as the start could have been better.

The mass markets and single screens did not drop so that is a plus for the film. But it needs to have  a big jump on Sunday and if it can jump in the same range as Saturday, then it will have pretty good collections on Sunday and a good weekend trend. The film is doing best in Nizam/Andhra which has collected over 90 lakhs in day two while CP Berar which is a circuit with a similar ratio is just 60 lakh nett. The film will depend on Monday as even a good Sunday does not mean the film will hold on Monday.

MALANG collected 6.50 crore nett on day one which is a decent collection for the face value of the film but the collection of the film is lower than MARJAAVAAN which had far lower costs than this film. The film should have opened a little better due to genre but face value of main lead comes in the way.

The issue will be big growth due to the genre and its unlikely that the film can go up 40-50% on Saturday. But there should be growth as every film tends to grow on Saturday and the mass collections are not that high here that they will stop growth. The target for the film will be double digits on Sunday which it will have to do to stay in the race and a chance to sustain on Monday. The business of the film is not going to be strong at metros and so its about the mass belts collecting good on Sunday.

The mass belts could have been better on Friday. Gujarat/Saurashtra and Maharashtra are decent but UP and the Central India markets could have scored better.

SHIKARA collected 1 crore nett on its first day which is actually not that bad for a film like this of no face value. But the collections are just from the three big chains mainly of PVR, Inox and Cinepolis especially the former which is almost half the all India business. This sort of ratio is very rare and it remains to be seen how the film grows over the weekend.
