Bad Newz collects 42.55 cr in Week 1

Bad Newz Box Office Collection Day 6: Vicky Kaushal-Triptii Dimri's Film Is At Rs 40 Crore (And Counting)
Box Office India Trade Network

BAD NEWZ collected 42.50 crore nett apprx in its first week driven by a solid weekend. The weekdays collections are on the lower side though they have held up pretty well post the drop on the Monday. The first week collections are pretty similar to TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA and CREW as those films were also in the 41-42 crore nett range.

The better comparison is probably CREW as that was more urban than TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA. But BAD NEWZ is even a notch up on CREW going by the ratio of collections from the biggest ten or so centres. The difference is likely to get wider as CREW had an open second week or at least most of it while here with BAD NEWZ, a drop is certain due to DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE.

The second Friday is crucial for the film as a 2 crore nett number would easily take the film above 60 crore nett. However, that will be a tough number to get due to the competition. The mass centres will drop out of the picture in week two. The numbers in the likes of Rajasthan, CI and Gujarat etc are short of CREW.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 11,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 3,10,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 2,70,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 42,55,00,000 apprx

Bad Newz collects 39.85 cr in 6 days

Bad Newz Box Office Collection Day 5: Vicky Kaushal-Triptii Dimri's Film Crosses Rs 35 Crore Mark
Box Office India Trade Network

BAD NEWZ continues decent run on Wednesday as collections edge a little over the 3 crore nett mark at around 3-3.10 crore nett. The film has nearly 40 crore nett up on the board and after Monday, it is holding pretty well but this has to continue. The film needs to get around 60 crore nett or very close in 2 weeks and then it will be a decent success.

The film is not a HIT or anything but being a success is good enough especially for a film with such limited appeal. The problem for BAD NEWZ is not just that it is a metro film but it also goes regional with only really NCR and the A centres of Punjab actually doing good business. There is some support from Bangalore also but the other metros are underperforming.

The takeaway from the film is the initial as the near 30 crore nett is a result and should instill some confidence in the film industry for the genre. It also shows the huge importance of music which has reiterated again and again as it is what can save films from failing especially in that 50-100 budget range.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 11,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 3,10,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 39,85,00,000 apprx

Bad Newz collects 36.75 cr in 5 days; is the biggest weekend opener of Vicky Kaushal

Bad Newz Box Office Collection Day 3: Vicky Kaushal And Triptii Dimri's Film Is At Rs 29 Crore And Counting
Box Office India Trade Network

BAD NEWZ collected around 3.50 crore nett on its first Monday which is a 58% drop from the first day. The drop is there which was likely as even on a best case, it was going to be at least a 50% drop Despite the drop, the number on Monday is still in the same range as CREW (taking out holiday Factor) and TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA.

The film also started BOGO late on Monday which can give the collections a helping hand today. The problem for the film is Mumbai circuit which has shown a big drop from Friday dropping around 62%. Generally business has seen bigger drops in Mumbai on Monday even with the holdover films. But this affects BAD NEWZ the most being the new release.

The numbers in Delhi/UP and East Punjab remain good despite the drop and it is sure to beat CREW and TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA in East Punjab. The total for the film so far is 33.25 crore nett and the first week should go to around 42 crore nett which is a pretty good total but its all about what it does when DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE releases. Stabilization in Mumbai can really help the cause of the film as North is doing well enough while other regions outside Mysore were never really going to do well.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 11,25,00,000 appr
Monday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 33,25,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
BAD NEWZ did well on Tuesday as it collected in the same range as Monday and final collections could even be a little higher. The film was probably helped a little by the BOGO scheme and collections in Mumbai were better than Monday.

The collections of the film are now almost 37 crore nett and the first week is heading for a total of around 43 crore nett which would be a solid first week number. The film continues to do good business in Delhi NCR and East Punjab and these are the drivers of the film.

The key is now what happens on Friday with the release of DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE but if the film can get a couple of more steady days, then it should be fine and have some sort of success. The final numbers are unlikely to reach the levels of CREW and TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA as there are more films releasing every week. However, BAD NEWZ is also a lower costing film as compared to those two.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 11,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 36,75,00,000 apprx
--------------------------------------------
BAD NEWZ has put up good numbers in Overseas which are easily the best for a Vicky Kaushal film beating the $2 million of RAAZI which also had Alia Bhatt in the lead. The opening of URI was $1.2 million.

The zone of the film is a positive for Overseas and the Punjabi flavour and presence of Ammy Virk probably pushed the number in Canada. But at the end of the day, its the good results in Gulf which has pushed the film over the $2 million mark.

The numbers in Gulf are a surprise as its the second biggest opening there of the year after BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN as FIGHTER did not release in Gulf. The numbers of BAD NEWZ are better than TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA, SHAITAAN and CREW in Gulf.

The overseas figure for BAD NEWZ over the weekend are as follows.
US - $583,000
Canada - $430,000
United Kingdom - £165,000
Gulf - $500,000
Australia - A$283,000
Rest Of The World - $250,000
TOTAL - $2,200,000 apprx

Bad Newz collects 29.75 cr in 3 days

Bad Newz Box Office Collection Day 2: Progress Report On Vicky Kaushal And Triptii Dimri's Film
Box Office India Trade Network

BAD NEWZ had a solid first day as it collected around the 8.25 crore nett range driven by the business in Delhi NCR and East Punjab circuits which can be called very good. The opening day in East Punjab is like a double digit opener as the song 'Tauba Tauba' would have worked most here. There is also Ammy Virk factor, who is a star in Punjab, and this has added to the film in the North. Also, the feel of the film has probably contributed to better collections in NCR and Punjab.

The collections outside NCR and East Punjab were decent as bigger centres did well while others could not really collect well. The performance in mass markets is on the lower side with many circuits delivering lower numbers than TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA.

The fun factor and the music has really pushed the film and Vicky Kaushal is on a good wicket at present with films like ZARA HATKE ZARA BACHKE and SAM BAHADUR. This should be another addition to the list though we will have to wait till Monday to really see where this film will go.

The film looks like doing well in Delhi/UP and East Punjab circuits and if the bigger centres in Mumbai circuit can also come around and do a little better over the next week or so, then its pretty much ceratin to do well in the long run. If not, then it will remain about where the business in NCR and East Punjab can take the film. Places like Gujarat, East and Central are unlikely to support due to the subject of the film not being for a conservative audienc eand also the treatment of the film sort of alienates this audience.
-----------------------------------------
BAD NEWZ has emerged the sixth highest opening of the year but was one of the very few films which can be said to have opened well. The number is a good number for the zone of the film as the biggest film in this zone post pandemic is probably TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR in terms of initial and that was 14 crore nett on a holiday. The fair value probably goes down to 10.50 crore nett and here, a smaller film is getting to 8 crore nett plus.

Still, the only film which has had a good opening without the support of holidays or incentives is KALKI 2898 AD and the original Hindi films have needed holidays and incentives to take them into that good bracket. A little better performance by BAD NEWZ in mass pockets would have meant this film going into that good bracket without a holiday or incentive.

Hopefully, the next few months change things for the better as far as openings go for original Hindi films because when a film like BAD NEWZ can get the 8 crore nett number up without any mass support, the potential is there for far bigger numbers. FIGHTER remains the top original Hindi opener but the opening was not up to the mark for the film.

The top ten opening day collections for Hindi films in 2024 are as follows.
1. Kalki 2898 AD (Hindi) - 21,28,00,000
2. Fighter - 20,43,00,000
3. Shaitaan - 15,08,00,000
4. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan - 14,87,00,000
5. Crew - 9,41,00,000
6. Bad Newz - 8,25,00,000 apprx
7. Mr & Mrs Mahi - 6,79,00,000
8. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya - 6,54,00,000
9. Articke 370 - 5,21,00,000
10. Chandu Champion - 4,48,00,000
-----------------------------------------
BAD NEWZ continues to do well on Saturday as it collected over 10 crore nett to take its two day number to 18.50 crore nett. The growth was limited at 25% but still considering the opening, this is okay as the relative numbers are good. The 8 crore nett day one number was a huge plus and considering the limited appeal, it would have been a surprise if the film went up 40-50% from 8 crore nett. But with films opening low, the industry is used to seeing big Saturday growth.

The film has a double digit collection on Saturday which was probably expected to come on Sunday. The film has a very high ratio of business coming from the nationals as they contribute 70% of the all India business. They do contribute high ratios for the urban films but this is slightly more than normal. BAD NEWZ continues to good business in East Punjab and NCR though Mumbai can be better despite the Saturday growth.

Overall, the film has put up good numbers over the first two days but Sunday growth is crucial as with a such high ratio of business from the bigger multiplexes, there is always a chance of the film being flat like the Hollywood releases. The bigger multiplexes see drops in business on Sunday evening and night shows.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000
Saturday - 10.25,00,000
TOTAL - 18,50,00,000 apprx
-----------------------------------------
BAD NEWZ bought some cheer to the film industry with a good weekend at almost 30 crore nett. The growth was limited but the film was never going to show that 40-50% growth on Saturday from an 8 crore nett plus start as then, the numbers would be too high for a film which is very urban and with a regional bias towards the North.

The film also managed to get some gains on Sunday when it could easily have been flat due to such a high ratio of business coming from the big multiplexes. There was a good little push in Mumbai on Sunday which helped as North did not grow much.

The Sunday numbers of the film are comfortably higher than TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA and CREW which are films in a similar zone. The weekend is also better than both films and CREW had a holiday on day one. The difference is though this film will not get the clean run those films did. CREW had obstacles in front of it but those obstacles turned out to be disasters.

When a film like this can pick up 30 crore nett, it is good news for the film industry as its not happened much post pandemic and this is a bread and butter film which the industry is comfortable in making. The limited audience the film has will eventually tell but thats more about the shift in characterization and stories which the industry has to make to get a wider audience.

The collections of BAD NEWZ till date are as follows.
Friday - 8,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 11,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 29,75,00,000 apprx
