Subhash Ghai calls Jackie ‘bad actor’, Shatrughan ‘overconfident’
HINDUSTAN TIMES (August 6, 2024)

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has made a series of shocking comments about a few of Hindi cinema’s iconic screen names. He was talking about the different types of actors in a promo for an upcoming episode of actor-producer Arbaaz Khan’s chat show and said, “Ek hota hai non-actor aur ek hota hai bad actor. Bad actor was Jackie Shroff. Actor is Anil Kapoor.”

Ghai worked with Shroff and Kapoor in films such as Hero (1983), Meri Jung (1985), Karma (1986), Ram Lakhan (1989). He also reserved special comments for his Kalicharan (1976) and Vishwanath (1978) collaborator, actor-MP Shatrughan Sinha. “Jo overconfident thhe, woh hamesha Shatrughan Sinha thhe. Shatrughan ka sabse bada problem tha ki woh time pe kabhi nahin pahunchta tha.”

The 79-year-old director shared that after Karz (1980), he decided to change his casting decisions up a bit. “Maine socha, jitney bhi current stars hain unke saath picture nahin banani hai agar picture asli banani hai.”

Ghai also directed actor Shah Rukh Khan in the 1997 film Pardes. “Uska aur mera man-mutav chalta rehta tha, tu-tu main-main chalti rahti thi,” he said about their equation.
