The death of Malayalam filmmaker Siddique Ismail, one half of the director duo Siddique-Lal, has left the industry mourning. The Bodyguard (2011), Vietnam Colony (1992) and Ramji Rao Speaking (1989) director suffered a massive heart attack and died on August 8.
Several stars took to social media to pay tributes to the late filmmaker. “Continuous departures of very dear ones…while experiencing the unbearable pain it causes… Homage to dear Siddique (sic),” actor Mammootty, a frequent collaborator of Siddique’s, wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Actor Dulquer Salmaan wrote, “The gentlest soul. The kindest human. A gifted writer/director. The most incredible humor hiding behind his soft demeanour. He gave us some of the most iconic films... This is an immeasurable loss (sic).”
Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who starred in Bodyguard, posted a picture of the late filmmaker on her Insta Stories, writing, “Will always remember you like this… You will be missed Siddique sir.”
In a Facebook post, filmmaker Fazil, who was Siddique’s mentor, wrote: “I have no words to thank you enough for the love and support you have given my family. Thank you for the beautiful memories. You and your smile will always remain in my heart (sic).”
