It wouldn’t be wrong to say that priorities have changed for Kareena Kapoor Khan since she embraced motherhood. The actor, who shares sons Taimur (6) and Jeh (2) with actor Saif Ali Khan, is a “24/7 mum”, in her own words.

“I am very hands on, I like to do everything,” she tells us, adding, “I would say I am 70% percent a mother now and 30% an actor. I do things I love as well, like spreading awareness about topics such as inculcating reading habits in children.”

In this age of social media, her sons are public figures in their own right and are often papped, too. As a mother, does this constant glare perturb her? She says, “Saif and I, as parents, have never really hid anything from the media. My children are photographed because we believe if we give respect, we will get respect. I can’t ask for it or beg for it.”

The 42-year-old adds that whenever she tells the paps not to click her kids — while they are at school or with friends — they refrain. “We have to reach that mutual understanding,” she asserts, adding, “I give respect to my fans on Instagram as well. I let them into my life, maybe not 100% percent. I make everybody feel involved in my life and that’s why my fans are still so involved.”

Kareena is currently shooting for Rhea Kapoor’s The Crew, co-starring Kriti Sanon and Tabu, among others. Like many other working women, she too is juggling her personal life and professional commitments. However, when the same is done by a man, it is often viewed through a different lens and becomes a big deal.

Ask her take on this and she laughs, saying, “Women are just expected to be that (multi-taskers). People think, ‘She can do it’. Of course we can! But today, actresses are a lot more vocal, stressing that it’s not a big deal. We don’t want to be addressed as anything different.”
