Shah Rukh Khan and team stopped at Mumbai international airport

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and five of his team members were stopped for an hour at Mumbai airport by customs officials early on Saturday over payment of duty for 6 luxury watches worth Rs 17.90 lakh. After their evaluation, customs duty of Rs 6.90 lakh was levied on the watches.

Khan had flown in from Dubai on a chartered flight at 12. 30am and the payment facility was not operational at that time.

An official said during the screening of the luggage of the actor and his entourage, the watches were found in one of the bags that was with Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, his manager Pooja Dadlani, and bodyguard Ravi were stopped at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Friday evening, for allegedly carrying expensive watches and other dutiable goods. Sources told midday that while Khan and his manager were allowed to leave, the bodyguard was released on Saturday morning after paying customs duty and a fine of Rs 6.87 lakh.

According to a source in the customs, Khan and his team landed via a chartered plane at the airport and were supposed to exit from the Kalina VIP gate, but the officer of the customs batch B stopped them based on information that the actor was carrying expensive watches. “After a thorough search, it was found that his bodyguard Ravi was carrying expensive watches.”

The total value of the watches and other dutiable goods was worth Rs 17 lakh, which included expensive watches such as Buben, Zorweg, Rolex, and Apple. After all customs duties and fine calculations were done, Ravi was asked to pay Rs 6.87 lakh. “He was allowed to leave after completing all formalities and paying the penalties,” the officer added.
