Filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who is gearing up for the release of his multi-starrer movie, Ponniyin Selvan: 1, was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Tuesday after experiencing some Coronavirus related symptoms. Sources have now confirmed that the director has tested negative for the virus and is doing fine, according to a PTI report.

Ratnam had recently made a public appearance at the teaser launch of his film, which stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi Sivakumar, Vikram Prabhu and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others.

Earlier yesterday, film trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai took to Twitter to share the news. He wrote, “#ManiRatnam tested positive for #COVID19, admitted.”

Previously, Ponniyin Selvan actor Vikram had also been hospitalised in Chennai. Back then, several reports suggested that he had suffered a heart attack, until his son Dhruv Vikram debunked those speculations.

On his Instagram Story, Dhruv had written: “Dear fans and wellwishers, Appa had mild chest discomfort and is being treated for the same. He DID NOT have a heart attack as reports falsely claim. We are pained to hear rumours to this effect. That being said, we request you to give him and our family the privacy we need at this time. Our Chiyaan is fine now. (sic)”
