The surging Coronavirus cases have again started hitting film shoots and releases, with many biggies postponed already. But what happens to TV, our daily source of entertainment?

In the last two years, many TV shows had to go off air, and others shifted their shoots from Mumbai to neighbouring states during the lockdown. Currently, Mumbai and Delhi have night curfews, along with a weekend curfew in Delhi. And the possibility of another lockdown remains a concern. Television industry mostly seems to be in the wait and watch mode right now. And some shows, like Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, and Vidrohi, have a bank of episodes ready.

J D Majethia, producer of Wagle Ki Duniya and chairman of TV and web wing, Indian Film and Television Producers Council, says the situation is manageable currently. “But it may not remain the same if the number of cases doesn’t come down. We will see what impact it has... The best possible option will be to shoot in a bio bubble. We have to see the situation all over right now, not just in Maharashtra. We are still shooting and facing challenges,” he adds.

Actors, on their part, are open to shooting safely. Sanjay Gagnani, who stars in Kundali Bhagya, is certain that shoots will not stop: “I have heard that if shooting stops in Maharashtra, we would go to any other state where cases are not high.”

Meanwhile, Sharad Malhotra, who leads the historical show Vidrohi and is battling Covid-19 currently, says, “Luckily, we have a bank of episodes... We’re following precautions. As far as shifting the shoot to another state is concerned, we hope it doesn’t get that bad.”
