BOMBAY TIMES (January 29, 2019)

On Sunday, a day after India celebrated its 70th Republic Day, Bollywood doffed its hat to the Mumbai Police. Umang’s 2019 edition saw a swell star turnout. Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Rohit Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Sara and Saif Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vicky Kaushal, Parineeti Chopra, Sushant Singh Rajput, Kriti Sanon, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Shamita Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Rajkummar Rao and Himesh Reshammiya, were among those who attended the show. A few also performed on stage.

In his inimitable style, Amitabh Bachchan delivered a speech honouring the city’s cops. Ranveer Singh took his Simmba avatar rather seriously and wore an animal print suit to the event. He was seen in high spirits while performing to a medley of his hits along with Sara. He also posed for some photographs with the cops. His entry atop an SUV was pulled straight out of Rohit’s recent release. Akshay’s entry in the avatar of a cop on a police bike, had his colleagues clapping and cheering.

Ranbir and Alia took to the stage together with Shah Rukh, which became one of the highlights of the evening. Katrina also set the stage on fire with her moves in a red sari-dress.
