As Saif and Kareena’s son turns one today, his grandfather Randhir Kapoor spills the beans on why the celebration in Pataudi is a simple and sweet affair

The day is finally here. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s son Taimur, who sends social media into a tizzy with his oh-so-adorable looks every time he is captured by the shutterbugs, has finally turned one. While everyone has been wondering about his birthday celebrations today, we now know that his maternal grandparents, Babita and Randhir Kapoor, aunt Karisma and her kids, Samaira and Kiaan, have joined Taimur, his parents and granny Sharmila Tagore at their family home in Pataudi. The place was all decked up and celebrations kicked in last night. Aunt Soha, uncle Kunal Kemmu and their newborn daughter Inaaya were also present.
Speaking to us from Pataudi, Randhir reminisced the day Taimur was born. “I remember the sentiments we had a year ago at this time. We were waiting to know with bated breath who we’re welcoming home. And see, Taimur is already a year old! He’s handsome and has all my blessings and good wishes. It’s a family affair in Pataudi. We wanted this to be intimate and special for the little one, and that’s how we’re keeping it — simple, sweet and a lot of fun with all the children coming together. Taimur’s grandfather Mansoor saab is watching over everyone and showering them with blessings.” Randhir refused to divulge the details on the gift he’s picked for his grandson. The actor was in Delhi late last week for the launch of a book on his father Raj Kapoor and reportedly headed to Pataudi from there. Kareena and Saif reached Pataudi on late Saturday noon with Karisma and the rest of the family joining in.
Since Kareena’s granduncle Shashi Kapoor passed away on December 5, at that time, hearsay was that it might affect Taimur’s birthday celebrations. However, Randhir says, “My father Raj saab had said, ‘The show must go on’. We, as a family, believe in it completely. Shashi saab is always watching over us, just like our other ancestors. We Kapoors celebrate life and our time together.”
Speaking about Taimur’s popularity on social media, Randhir says, “I just hope he never gets affected by this media craze around him,” and adds, “We want Taimur to be as low on all these things as possible. We want him to have a normal upbringing and lead a regular life. We don’t know what will happen when he grows up. But for as long as he’s a child, we want him to have his years of innocence and grow up like any other normal kid. The rest is his destiny.”

There’s a nip in the air around the Pataudi palace even as the premises is bathed in lights for mini nawab Taimur Ali Khan’s first birthday today. A special dinner spread and a cake are in order for a low-key celebration with the infant's proud parents, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, nani Babita, actress-aunt Karisma and cousins, Samaira and Kiaan Raj.
On Tuesday, the family took a tractor ride with Saif at the wheel around the Pataudi estate and visited a nearby farm. The Kapoor-Khans arrived in Delhi on Sunday for a week-long holiday and are scheduled to return to Mumbai over the weekend. “It’s Taimur’s first birthday and he should be with his family – his parents and his grandparents. It’s a small intimate thing, not a big Bollywood party,” Kareena told Mirror, dismissing rumours that Karan Johar with twins Yash and Roohi and Shah Rukh Khan with son AbRam were flying down. “We are really excited but it will be a family get-together of sorts,” the actress-mom added.
