Amidst unseasonal showers on Tuesday, Shashi Kapoor’s mortal remains
were brought to his Juhu residence, Janki Kutir, at 11 am from the
hospital, where he had breathed his last the previous evening.
The subsequent send-off was carried out with state honours, with the tricolour-draped body brought to the Santacruz crematorium in an ambulance and three rounds of shots fired to honour the late actor.
A teary-eyed Kunal Kapoor, along with brother Karan, sister Sanjana and her husband Valmik Thapar, arrived first and were joined by Shashi Kapoor’s nephews, Randhir, Rajiv and Rishi.
Other attendees included Shakti Kapoor, Suresh Oberoi, Poonam Dhillon, Annu Kapoor, Rohan Sippy and Kay Kay Menon. Supriya Pathak who worked with Shashi Kapoor in Kalyug and Vijeta said, “Shashi ji was one the best producers and a great human being. He made me feel so welcome even though I was a newcomer then. I have the best memories of him and Jennifer (Kendal).”
