Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai released in 2001. Even 16 years later, the film is one of the most revered movies on love and friendship. There has been chatter that Farhan was planning a sequel to the film.

One of his lead actors Akshaye Khanna, thinks that would be a very bad idea. “That’s totally Farhan’s decision and it’s in his realm of things. But I would caution anybody who’s made a film like Dil Hai Chahta Hai because when you are planning a sequel, it has to be better than the first one. Otherwise, why do it at all? Unless he can come up with a script better than DCH, if I were him, I would avoid it like a plague,” he says.

On the other hand, he has an idea for the sequel. He explains, “What would be interesting is if he gives it another 10-15 years, which would mean we are completely in a different age bracket. If he makes a sequel like that, it would be a fun film. It’s only been 15-16 years to the film now. Give it another 15 and we will all be a little old, fat and having issues with various things. That would be different but exciting.” That should be interesting.
