Nawazuddin Siddiqui is on a roll. Not only will he be seen in a pivotal role in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Te3n, he also plays the cop who finally hunts down Shah Rukh Khan’s underworld don in Raees.

The two actors, it is believed, have some pretty powerful confrontation scenes a la Yash Chopra’s Deewaar, with Shah Rukh filling in for Amitabh Bachchan and Nawaz as “Shashi Kapoor’s cop in Deewaar high on speed,” as one source describes.

Shah Rukh Khan, who has worked with Nawaz for the first time in Raees, was so impressed that he suggested that director Rahul Dholakia give Nawaz’s role a more prominent and fleshed-out shape. Nawaz admits it’s a unique role. “This is my first film with Shah Rukh Bhai. I always wanted to work with him in a film where I had something substantial to do,” he says.

Nawaz says he has never played a cop like this. “I play this ruthless cop who goes to any lengths. There are no full-stops to my character.” But it’s not the first time that Nawaz plays a cop. “I played a cop in Kahaani. But this is an entirely different space. I was shocked by the lengths this cop in Raees could go to. Audiences will be shocked, too.”
