Enlarge ImageAll good things come in twos. Well, mostly. Take Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s crackling chemistry, for one. With Tamasha, they hope to repeat the success they last achieved together with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. But there’s another success story waiting to repeat itself, with Tamasha’s producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Imtiaz Ali, who last came together for Highway.

The producer and director don’t just share a mutual respect, but also a strong camaraderie. Imtiaz likens working with Sajid to “playing in an A-league cricket match.” He adds, “When I’m working with Sajid, I’m spoilt. He gives his directors complete autonomy and makes them feel special. I feel the best producers in the world are those that are invisible. He possesses that quality. He lets me make my film the way I wish. Even important money decisions are sometimes mine. All the while, I know that he is there somewhere in the background. He only surfaces if he thinks the situation is beyond me.’’

Sajid reveals that when he and Imtiaz first talked about making Tamasha almost five years back, they mutually decided it would star only Ranbir and Deepika. He indulgently adds, “At that juncture, he also told me that the film had to be shot all over the world because that was the requirement of the script. The shooting of a film like this needed a certain preparation and of course a big budget (smiles)! Siddharth and UTV helped make this dream come true. But the most beautiful part of this journey is the fact that we were as excited about it at the start as we are today, when Tamasha releases.”
