Enlarge ImageWe told you as early as last month that anti-smoking warnings were to go, after much deliberation and dialogue between film producers and the Ministry for Information & Broadcasting, the latest development is that the disclaimers and warnings will stay for now, but are expected to go soon.

However, moves are afoot to make sure it won’t be the filmmakers’ prerogative to place these warnings. Rather, the onus of doing so, passes on to theatre owners and exhibitors. Sources say the chairperson of the Censor Board Pahlaj Nihalani has sent recommendations to this effect to the Ministry Of Information & Broadcasting.

According to an I&B Ministry insider, “So far, producers have been compelled to incorporate statutory warnings in the beginning and middle of their films. That may soon change. The anti-making films may now be made compulsory before all movie screenings, just like the national anthem.”
