Saeed Mirza's iconic 1981 film, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, is getting a contemporary spin. Manav Kaul (Citylights, Kai Po Che) reprises the titular character immortalised by Naseeruddin Shah. Nandita Das steps into the shoes of Shabana Azmi who played Stella Costa in the 1981 film.

The film's shooting is complete, but not everything is hunky-dory with the indie project which has the original director Saeed Mirza as consultant. The film has run out of funds and needs to raise around Rs 50 lakh.

Producer-director Soumitra Ranade said, "For the post-production, we've tied up with WishBerry to raise funds. I'm disillusioned by the way indie films are treated here. But there's still hope when an actress like Nandita does a film like this for free. I hope our efforts pay off." While the original film set against a mill worker's strike revolved around a car mechanic, this version talks about a contemporary crisis plaguing our society. "I haven't copied the original, it's too good," asserted Ranade. "I've simply interpreted it according to my sensibilities."
