Dil Dhadakne Do starts off
with Anil Kapoor, the patriarch of the Mehra clan, going on a cruise
with his reel life wife,
Shifaali Shah, to bring in their 30th wedding anniversary. Accompanying
them are their children, Ranveer Singh who's being persuaded to tie the
knot with the 'right' girl, and Priyanka Chopra who is already married
to Rahul Bose. And there begins a journey about family bonding,
estrangement and self discovery.
“It was a happy coincidence
that Mr Kapoor and Sunita were also raising a toast to three decades of
marriage while we were shooting. We learnt this within days of setting
sail and though Sunita couldn't be with us on May 19, their anniversary,
we had a bash for the Kapoors later. In fact, there was a party every
night with the 2000-plus cast, crew, their friends and
family, on board. We
even brought in Ranveer's
29th birthday on the ship,“
reminisces producer
Ritesh
Sidhwani.
Ritesh admits that since they wrapped up the family drama, he's been flooded with requests from his filmy family for a peek. And that is how they hit on the idea of hosting three parties on the same night for a preview of the trailer for the team and their families, before unveiling it to the world a couple of days later.
“Anil
Kapoor will be hosting a party jointly with Ranveer. The two are
actually related as Ranveer's father is a cousin of Sunita Kapoor. This
bash for their relatives and common friends will be at the Kapoors' Juhu
bungalow, while siblings, Farhan and Zoya, the film's actor and
director, will be throwing one more, jointly, for their families,“
informs Ritesh who will be organising a third gala at his place which
will be the grand finale for the entire DDD family.
He admits that after making films about friends, bromance and rock music, Farhan and he, after a decade, have finally come up with a film that celebrates the family, with all its dislikes and differences, its moments and memories. “And what better way than this to ensure that we gets a family audience for it from the word go,“ Ritesh smiles.
