Producer and co-founder of Phantom Films, Madhu Mantena, exchanged rings with actress Neena Gupta's daughter, fashion designer Masaba Gupta on Tuesday. Like Mirror (March 9) had reported, the relationship was formalised at a plush South Mumbai hotel at a ceremony which started at 9.30 pm.
The couple's friends from B'town turned up in numbers. Madhu's best friend, Shahid Kapoor was by his side, along with his working partners, Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl and Vikramaditya Motwane. So were Masaba's friends, from Anushka Ranjan, who has known Masaba since the two were toddlers, to Alia Bhatt who posted a picture of M & M, as the couple has been fondly nicknamed, displaying their rings, hashtagging it "behen ki shaadi".
Masaba who chose a Shivan and Narresh creation, instead of her own label, looked beautiful in the monochrome ensemble. According to a guest, she was the one who had the final call on all the details, from the cake and the menu to the venue and her engagement ring.
Mother Neena grew teary-eyed as she gave an emotional speech, admitting that she was surprised when her daughter announced her decision to marry Madhu. "I'm going to miss her," she sniffed. "I didn't have the time to react, it happened so quickly!"
And as the couple exchanged rings, cheers followed. Many of the couple's friends had returned to the city from foreign jaunts to attend the ceremony. Kangana Ranaut, looking like a desi girl in a peach saree, drove down straight from the airport, fresh from her stay in Paris. Also, spotted were Raveena Tandon, who was away in Dubai and Huma Qureshi, who returned from a family vacation to Istanbul. Preity Zinta, who threw a pre-engagement bash for the duo on Saturday, was there too.
Aamir Khan and Karan Johar put their differences over the AIB Roast behind them and had plenty to talk about. "It looked like they had agreed to disagree and move on," a guest told Mirror.
Jacky Bhagnani showed up with current squeeze Neha Sharma while Ekta Kapoor was seen with former Balaji CEO Tanuj Garg.
From canoodling couples to frenemies, the tempo picked up after the seniors were packed off home and the party moved from the hotel's rooftop lounge to the nightclub on the floor below. The youngsters partied till the wee hours with the Phantom boys dancing to the Queen chartbuster, London Thumakda, while Madhu and Masaba sealed it with a kiss.
