Mirror (November 3) was the first to report that Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma will be shooting for a special song for Anurag Kashyap's period drama Bombay Velvet in January. The promotional video will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Now, we have learnt that to jazz up the song, Kashyap has roped in 'the bartender' Mikey McCleary who has previously worked on the remixes of popular chartbusters like Hawaa Hawaai and Khoya Khoya Chand (Shaitan), O Lal Meri/ Mast Kaladar (David) and Dhak Dhak Karne Laga and So Gaya Yeh Jahan (Nautanki Saala).
A source close to the development told Mirror that the video will reflect the spirit of Bombay of the '60s. And while most of the film was shot on an elaborate set in Sri Lanka, this song will be picturised in a city studio.
Speaking from New York, Mikey said: "The song has a jazz and vintage vibe and we've used a lot of saxaphone, brass and trumpet. The song sums up the idea of the film which also has a very Broadway feel."
He added that since it's not a conventionally catchy number, Anurag asked him to make it more accessible. "It has a lovely melody with melancholic words," he added.
When contacted, Anurag revealed that Mikey is remixing a track called Mohabbat Buri Bimaari. "It was originally composed by Amit Trivedi with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya," he said.
