A sombre-looking Hrithik Roshan, dressed in a black T-shirt and right arm in a matching sling, followed his ex-wife Sussanne Khan out of the Bandra family court around 11 am on Saturday. Outside, photographers and TV cameramen jostled for space to capture the final moments of one of the most talkedabout separations in Bollywood.
A relaxed Sussanne
While Hrithik, on a professional high after the success of his movie Bang Bang, hid his emotions behind black aviators, Sussanne, dressed in an elegant white T-shirt and blue denims, looked extremely relaxed. She didn't avoid the cameras, though the security ring around Hrithik and Sussanne ensured the press was not able to get too close.
The actor and his ex-wife arrived at the court separately, and their respectively lawyers informed that they had arrived at an out-of-court settlement.
The divorce was finalised in the chambers of Principal Judge Laxmi Rao, and took all of 15 minutes to end a 14-year-long marriage. Hrithik and Sussanne -- the daughter of yesteryear actor Sanjay Khan -- got married in 2000, after a four-year courtship. They have two sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan, and Hirthik's lawyer said the kids' custody will be joint.
Joint custody
"They have joint custody. Whenever and whoever wants to be with the kids, can be with them," Hrithik's lawyer Dipesh Mehta said.
In a mutual consent plea, there is asix-month cooling off period at the end of which if neither side withdraws their consent, the court on finding that there was no coercion or collusion and existence of a genuine marital breakdown then grants a divorce.
No alimony, says lawyer
A few months ago, there were reports of Sussanne demanding Rs 400 crore in alimony, which Hrithik had termed as malicious. "No settlement amount has been specified in court records. In fact, there are no legal documents even outside court, such as memorandum of understanding. In this case, the alimony is based on trust, mutual convenience and requirement," Mehta said.
Mutual consent
The couple had approached the court in February, and filed an application for separation by mutual consent. On December 14 last year, the couple, one of the most popular Bollywood personalities, had called off their marriage.
In a statement, the 40-year-old superstar had said Sussanne decided to walk out of their marriage. His statement read: "This is my greatest tribute to love. Sussanne is, and always will be, the love of my life for the rest of my life. If her smiles are brighter without me, my love for her must accomplish that."
In her statement, Sussanne had said that the separation was their "own individual choices". Her statement read: "We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own individual choices. We are parents to two wonderful kids and our responsibility remains to protect and take care of them. Nothing can change that."

A family court in BKC granted divorce to actor Hrithik Roshan and his wife Sussanne on Saturday .The mutual consent divorce ended their marriage of over 13 years.
The two arrived in separate vehicles at 10.30am, he in his white Mercedes (S class), she in her white Range Rover. Within 20 minutes, they left that way too. Hrithik walked Sussanne to her vehicle. Their two minor children, both boys, will live with their mother, but both parents have joint custody. The actor had finally decided to end the marriage with his interior designer wife on an amicable note and both filed for a mutual consent divorce in April.
The common lawyers for both, Mrunalini Deshmukh and Dipesh Mehta were in tow, when the two entered the court premises on Saturday. They presented themselves before principal family court judge Laxmi Rao who asked whether there was any change of mind. Both said that there wasn't. Satisfied that the joint plea for divorce was genuine and voluntary, without any coercion or collusion, the judge pronounced them divorced.
The settlement between the two was not detailed in the court papers. Sussanne, will continue to reside in the rented Versova residence with the kids, aged five and seven years. Both parents will have a say in their upbringing. Hrithik plans to take them on a holiday abroad as soon as he recovers from a ligament injury. Deshmukh and Mehta remained tight-lipped about settlement details.
The actor has agreed to look after his children's daily needs and also their luxuries. He lives in Juhu but will continue to maintain the Versova home where they reside with Sussanne, who herself hails from a film clan.
The couple knew each other for over 17 years. Last December, the two had released public statements that they were headed for a split, that it was no longer 'Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai'. Almost a year later, as their divorce on the basis of irretrievable differences, was allowed, one more Bollywood marriage bit the dust.
