Essaying the title role in Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, has been no mean feat for Shahid Kapoor. But now, the actor has another task ahead. As the movie nears release, Shahid is well aware that he will have to face comparisons with his father, Pankaj Kapur, who had played a key role in Maqbool - another of Vishal's Shakespeare adaptations.
Says Shahid, “ As far as the characters and treatment of the film are concerned, there can be no comparison whatsoever - the two are extremely different from an actor's perspective. I certainly don't want to think about it. Had I given it any thought, I would've paralysed myself by over-thinking how I should be treating the scenes.“

Pointing out that he has always been perceived as a commercial actor, Shahid thinks that one can't draw parallels between his and his father's work. He adds, “My sense of cinema and career has been very different from that of my father. But if I can achieve even a part of his excellence in the craft, I would be grateful.His body of work and the years that he has put in, are something I cannot match up to.“
