Vidya Balan is amused. The National-Award-winning actress has been offered as many as six biopics over the past few months, three of which she received after her recent film hit the theatres.
A source close to the actress revealed that the she has received calls from three filmmakers over the past one week, offering her a biopic each. If Leena Yadav wants to make one on 'Tragedy Queen' Meena Kumari, Soham Shah is toying with the idea of bringing the first woman IPS officer, Kiran Bedi, to the screen. Yet another senior writer has approached Vidya to play the acclaimed singer, Padma Bhushan Begum Akhtar.
Earlier, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, in an interview to Mirror (May 31) had admitted that Vidya was his first choice to play India's first lady doctor Rakmabai. Malayalam filmmaker Kamal too wants her as the protagonist of his ambitious film on poet Kamala Das. Rajiv Menon also wants to helm a film on the renowned Carnatic vocalist, Bharat Ratna Subbulakshmi, and no prizes for guessing who he has in mind.
So, which one is Vidya considering from this pack of six? The source said: "She is not yet considering any of them for the moment. It's early days yet. But the one on M S Subbulakshmi excites her the most."
However, Menon's dream project has run into legal problems with Dr M P Somaprasad, who has the written consent and rights to make a film on Subbulakshmi, opposing the project.
When contacted, Vidya Balan said: "As humbling as it is to be offered a biopic, I am not sure if I want to be known as an actor with a monopoly on the genre."
