In April 2012, Shoojit Sircar announced that he will team up with his Vicky Donor finds, Ayushmann Khuranna and Yami Gautam, for a dramedy titled Hamara Bajaj. He was to direct it with John Abraham as the co-producer.

But, now, Mirror has learnt that it will be helmed by Amit Roy, who has directed the yet-to-be released Amit Sadh-Taapsee Pannu starrer Running Shaadi.com for Shoojit's banner. The film will also get a new title and leading lady.

Revealed a source, Although the story is dear to Shoojit, he has to begin shooting Piku soon with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. He was impressed by Amit's directorial prowess and asked him if he wants to take over his pet project. Amit immediately agreed."

The film will now feature Taapsee in the lead. Shooting will start after Running Shaadi.com's release. Added the source, “The script has been revamped but the central plot of a tourist guide who comes to Mumbai to be a star, has been retained."

Amit Roy confirmed the news saying “Yes, I will be directing the film. Currently, I'm developing the script which has undergone several changes.“

Asked if Taapsee will topline the cast with Ayushmann, he turned elusive, “I had a great experience working with Taapsee. However, we are yet to get down to the paperwork for the next film."
