Sajid Khan's Humshakals,
which stars Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor in triple
roles, is a tribute to comic geniuses Kishore Kumar and Jim Carrey. Says
the director, “These stalwarts have entertained us over the
years. This film is a tribute to them in my humble way . It is the
funniest script I have worked on to date."
The movie's comic scenes have been inspired by some of Kishoreda's zany comedies like Jhumroo, Half
Ticket and Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. The makers have even made Saif and Riteish repeat a memorable line from Half Ticket -`Hum pagal nahi hai, hamara dimaag kharaab hai', keeping the Kishore Kumar quotient in mind. The actors' mannerisms will also offer glimpses of Hollywood actor Jim Carrey's cult comedies Dumb And Dumber and Ace Ventura.
Apart from this, Saif will be seen imitating Amitabh Bachchan, the late Pran and his father-in-law Randhir Kapoor. Riteish, on the other hand, will mimic Dilip Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha.
Saif says, “This film is an attempt to bring back the era of slapstick comedies, which was once in vogue but got lost with the advent of romantic and action films." The film also stars Satish Shah and Chunky Pandey.
While the former plays a mental asylum warden, Chunkey will be seen as a Sindhi, owning an Indian paratha restaurant in London.
Humshakals, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and presented by Fox Star Studios, releases today.
