There will be the usual analysis that heroine oriented films are
gaining more acceptance today after QUEEN but nothing has really changed
for these type of films. Just like KAHAANI or ENGLISH VINGLISH changed
nothing..
The problem for these type of films is opening. The opening of KAHAANI, ENGLISH VINGLISH and now QUEEN have been very low and they have scored on content. So it's not that female-oriented films being accepted; it's just that the content of these film working and the same could have been with a children's film or a flick featuring no known star cast.
The films which are dominated by the female character have done well in the past also but apart from a couple of rare occasions, the opening has never been there and this is what matters as it limits the risk of the maker. When or if the initials start coming for heroine orientated films that will be the time to say they have come into their own, provided the moviegoers give them a fair chance from the word 'go'.
