Kashmiris love Bollywood films and their stars. All their taxis play old Bollywood music and nothing gives the people there more joy than the thought that Kashmir, once the hottest destination for shooting our films, has once again opened up to Bollywood. It started with Yash Chopra going back to his favourite valley to shoot his last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan, last year Imtiaz Ali shooting a part of Highway there and now, Vishal Bhardwaj shooting his entire film there.
His film Haider, which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s toughest play, Hamlet, starring Shahid and Shraddha Kapoor as its lead pair, is currently being shot in the snowcapped town of Pahalgam, where the temperature ranges from 0 degrees to 17 degrees. It’s a treat for the locals, who otherwise don’t get to see their films in cinema theatres, which are yet to open up in the valley. So when they found Shahid dancing in the valley, over 5,000 of them gathered to get a glimpse of of their favourite star.
