ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI had a decent first week as it collected around 70 crore nett. Like TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR earlier this year, the collections are not good enough for the budget of the film but they are decent for the genre which is a struggle at the box office as its not able to reach out to the mass circuits. Also here the hero was weaker compared to TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR. So, these numbers become reasonable.

The plus for the film is that it saw good holds over the weekdays and it should cover some ground over the second week. The film has fared very well in some areas like the NCR belt where collections are similar to ADIPURUSH which was a 115 crore nett first week all India as compared to only 70 crore here. The mass circuits have also held up well over the weekdays though at low collections and in these pockets, it will just be better multiplexes which will take it along now.

The crucial area for the film was Gujarat/Saurashtra if the film was to really go somewhere as the circuit is mainly driven by the family crowd. But the film could not really fare well here with collections only around 40 lakhs nett on Thursday when you would want the ratio above 10% by the end of the first week as its a longer sustaining circuit.

The story is about the metros going forward and these should hold well but the ratio of business from here will keep getting higher and higher as the film goes deeper into its run. The second Friday hold is crucial and if the film can hold at a similar level to Thursday it will be on its way to some kind of success. However, the the third Friday will see huge competition and that will actually tell where the film will land.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI has done fantastically well overseas in week one as from a strong start, it has held up very well in the first week and in one week has done similar buisness to GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI. It will also beat SOORYAVANSHI, '83 and KGF - CHAPTER 2 (Hindi) by the end of the second weekend leaving it only behind PATHAAN and BRAHMASTRA post pandemic. The week one number is $7.25 million.

The film has a lot of legs in overseas as the holds were very strong over the weekdays and the early numbers on the first Friday are also huge with Australia going at a pretty much similar rate to the first Friday. The United Kingdom hit £80k plus on each weekday and looks certain to hit a huge second weekend.

The real plus is Gulf as that is the market which could have bought the film down but in just one week. It has done as much as BRAHMASTRA which is the second highest grosser in the market post pandemic after PATHAAN. The circuit has been a struggle in 2021 and 2022 but seems to be getting better now.

The film could be flirting with the $10 million mark after the second weekend.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI held steady on Tuesday with collections in the same range as Monday. There was growth in pockets like Mumbai city and Pune while Bangalore and Kolkata city may end up with higher collections. There were little falls in the North while mass markets were pretty much flat on low collections.

The total collections of the film are around 58 crore nett now and the film has a strong trend. The overall collections are at a good level as the bigger multiplexes are performing well. The first week should be heading to the 70 crore nett range and the weekday trend should ensure a good hold over the second weekend.

The high end multiplexes look like driving this film. A film like TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR saw so so results at most places and the difference here may well be good results in high ends and so so elsewhere. But time will tell as there is a still long way to go due to the initial not being good enough for the mounting of the film.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI had a solid Monday with collections in the 6.75 crore nett range which is only 35% down from the first day. The weekend numbers were low for the mounting of the film but Monday is a good number and more than that, the trend is strong and this is most important as it means the film is going to run.

The overall collections at 51 crore nett are on the lower side for the mounting of the film and that is why a strong hold was so important on Monday as its about covering ground over the next 7-10 days. The mass circuits have held well on Monday at pretty much the same range as the bigger circuits but they were low on Friday. So despite the hold, they are at low levels.

A crucial market like Gujarat/Saurashtra for families will not do well as collections should have been higher on Monday. The drop is only 35% but that is not good enough but East Punjab should be okay as Gurgaon is strong and a few other centres are doing better now.

Overall its about the metros and where they take the film. The film should do around 68-69 crore nett in the first week and then its about the crucial second Friday where it needs good number as the third week will see huge competition.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI saw a superb hold in overseas pretty much like India but in overseas to hold around 30-35% on a Monday is a much tougher task. The film had screen time issues with the competition of BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER especially in UK which meant that $4 million was a better number than it looked.

The Monday number has just confirmed that United Kingdom has only fallen 20% and is probably the highest Monday of all time outside a KHAN film as it edges past the Monday numbers of PADMAAVAT. The hold in Canada is even better with a drop of 15% from Friday though Canada is a superb holding market post pandemic.

The film now stands at around $4,750,000 over four days and the film can go on and hit the $10 million mark. The film was a HIT after three days due to numbers with the capacity issues and Monday just confirms the overseas HIT status of the film.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI did well in its first weekend by as it clocked up around 44.50 crore nett. There was good trajectory over the weekend with strong growth on Saturday and Sunday growth was also solid which means the film should hold up well enough over the weekdays.

The best performance of the film is Delhi city, Gurgaon and Noida and then places the film has got HIT collections over the first three days. Gurgaon is pretty much driving the whole East Punjab circuit which has managed to get pretty good overall collections on the strength of Gurgaon despite other major cities not really putting up strong collections. The film also has support in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai. The mass belts saw better collections on Sunday but growth was not huge at around 30-35% in the mass circuits when Sunday should be more.

If we compare the numbers with TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR, the film is basically doing better in the bigger top 8-10 cities but less in others. It is these top 8-10 cities which are going to drive the film from here  The film is in the same boat as TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR where the weekend collections are pretty good in terms of what the genre can deliver in the box office scenario today but they are not good enough for the size of these films. So it really becomes about the long run and how it plays out over the next week or so.

The big plus for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is overseas where it has done very well and grossed around the $4 million range and scored in all the circuits.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI has done very well in its initial weekend overseas as it racks up around $4 million and this is with issues in terms of less shows in markets like US and UK due to BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER being so strong. The UK saw major issues in terms of shows and this meant that Sunday actually went higher than Saturday.

This is an overseas friendly genre but that has gone out of the window in the recent past and now and its practically whatever scores in India tends to score overseas as well. There have been films like TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and JUGJUGG JEEYO which should have done better if that overseas genre friendly was still in play.

The plus for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is that Alia Bhatt is a bonafide star in overseas and probably ahead of the male stars of the newer generation and Karan Johar has a value in the traditional overseas markets. The other director who has that is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So, a film like GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI sort of becomes a benchmark and ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI should surpass the business of that film. Gulf being in better condition now than GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI's time is an added bonus.

The film is going to easily surpass the numbers of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and JUGJUGG JEEYO in one week flat.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI had a fair first day as it collected around 10.75-11 crore nett which is pretty much similar to the fair value number of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR which released on Holi day. ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is a summer time release when business is better while TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was March and there are block bookings also here for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI.

But the big difference in favour for TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was that it had a big star like Ranbir Kapoor while this has Ranveer Singh and the music of the Holi release also did better. So to get a similar number number to TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR, if we take out the holiday, was about the best ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI was going to do. Also the big difference is Gujarat/Saurashtra where TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did 1.50 crore nett more due to Holi which is a huge difference between the films. The Holi factor also pushed up the numbers of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR but not to the extent of Gujarat.

The best business for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI has come in the NCR belt where Delhi city, Gurgaon and Noida have recorded good collections. The film has a North feel but again as sort of expected UP and East Punjab (outside Gurgaon) are on the lower side, this is mainly because films of Ranveer Singh tend to underperform here and its also not the type of film to do well in UP. East Punjab (outside Gurgaon) had to do better as its multiplex dominated circuit.

The film is really about what happens from here as the initial was always likely to be in this range and that on a good day. Maybe pre pandemic it would have got over the 15 crore nett mark and even high ever but a lot has changed for the genre since then. The film needs to grow well on Saturday and with such a concentrate of business in the metros the growth should come. Also the Saturday growth is now like it was before the pandemic which was not the case when cinemas reopened till about few months back. So, it would be good if the film can jump 40-50% or even more.

The better news for the film has come from overseas with a solid first day which could go close to a $1 million dollars with US/Canada likely to be around $500k and Australia is around A$110k. It will be the Gulf number which will determine the Overseas numbers but its a good solid start in overseas and better than India which again was likely.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI showed very good growth on Saturday as collections jumped almost 50% as the film collected 15.50 crore nett on Saturday giving it a healthy two day total of 26 crore nett. The growth is 30-40% in mass cnetres while bigger centres are around 50-60%.

The numbers are still low in terms of the costs of the film but there is a good trend which gives the film a chance to run in the long run though a lot depends on what happen on the weekdays and after. The core Hindi circuits have to show big jumps today if the film is to have much of a run in them. Gujarat/Saurashtra had a good jump on Saturday as collections went to 1 crore nett but this should have been the day one number.

The better numbers are from Delhi city, Gurgaon, Noida and Bangalore and all these are doing good business whether in terms of trend or actual collections. The Delhi/UP circuit is doing well without much of a contribution from UP centres outside Noida and Lucknow. Mysore is also doing good numbers for the film. Basically the trajectory is positive for the film which was a must for Saturday and now its about where it can go from here.
