ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI had a fair first day as it collected around 10.75-11 crore nett which is pretty much similar to the fair value number of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR which released on Holi day. ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is a summer time release when business is better while TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was March and there are block bookings also here for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI.

But the big difference in favour for TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR was that it had a big star like Ranbir Kapoor while this has Ranveer Singh and the music of the Holi release also did better. So to get a similar number number to TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR, if we take out the holiday, was about the best ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI was going to do. Also the big difference is Gujarat/Saurashtra where TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR did 1.50 crore nett more due to Holi which is a huge difference between the films. The Holi factor also pushed up the numbers of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR but not to the extent of Gujarat.

The best business for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI has come in the NCR belt where Delhi city, Gurgaon and Noida have recorded good collections. The film has a North feel but again as sort of expected UP and East Punjab (outside Gurgaon) are on the lower side, this is mainly because films of Ranveer Singh tend to underperform here and its also not the type of film to do well in UP. East Punjab (outside Gurgaon) had to do better as its multiplex dominated circuit.

The film is really about what happens from here as the initial was always likely to be in this range and that on a good day. Maybe pre pandemic it would have got over the 15 crore nett mark and even high ever but a lot has changed for the genre since then. The film needs to grow well on Saturday and with such a concentrate of business in the metros the growth should come. Also the Saturday growth is now like it was before the pandemic which was not the case when cinemas reopened till about few months back. So, it would be good if the film can jump 40-50% or even more.

The better news for the film has come from overseas with a solid first day which could go close to a $1 million dollars with US/Canada likely to be around $500k and Australia is around A$110k. It will be the Gulf number which will determine the Overseas numbers but its a good solid start in overseas and better than India which again was likely.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI showed very good growth on Saturday as collections jumped almost 50% as the film collected 15.50 crore nett on Saturday giving it a healthy two day total of 26 crore nett. The growth is 30-40% in mass cnetres while bigger centres are around 50-60%.

The numbers are still low in terms of the costs of the film but there is a good trend which gives the film a chance to run in the long run though a lot depends on what happen on the weekdays and after. The core Hindi circuits have to show big jumps today if the film is to have much of a run in them. Gujarat/Saurashtra had a good jump on Saturday as collections went to 1 crore nett but this should have been the day one number.

The better numbers are from Delhi city, Gurgaon, Noida and Bangalore and all these are doing good business whether in terms of trend or actual collections. The Delhi/UP circuit is doing well without much of a contribution from UP centres outside Noida and Lucknow. Mysore is also doing good numbers for the film. Basically the trajectory is positive for the film which was a must for Saturday and now its about where it can go from here.
