ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI did well in its first weekend by as it clocked up around 44.50 crore nett. There was good trajectory over the weekend with strong growth on Saturday and Sunday growth was also solid which means the film should hold up well enough over the weekdays.

The best performance of the film is Delhi city, Gurgaon and Noida and then places the film has got HIT collections over the first three days. Gurgaon is pretty much driving the whole East Punjab circuit which has managed to get pretty good overall collections on the strength of Gurgaon despite other major cities not really putting up strong collections. The film also has support in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai. The mass belts saw better collections on Sunday but growth was not huge at around 30-35% in the mass circuits when Sunday should be more.

If we compare the numbers with TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR, the film is basically doing better in the bigger top 8-10 cities but less in others. It is these top 8-10 cities which are going to drive the film from here  The film is in the same boat as TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR where the weekend collections are pretty good in terms of what the genre can deliver in the box office scenario today but they are not good enough for the size of these films. So it really becomes about the long run and how it plays out over the next week or so.

The big plus for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is overseas where it has done very well and grossed around the $4 million range and scored in all the circuits.

ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI has done very well in its initial weekend overseas as it racks up around $4 million and this is with issues in terms of less shows in markets like US and UK due to BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER being so strong. The UK saw major issues in terms of shows and this meant that Sunday actually went higher than Saturday.

This is an overseas friendly genre but that has gone out of the window in the recent past and now and its practically whatever scores in India tends to score overseas as well. There have been films like TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and JUGJUGG JEEYO which should have done better if that overseas genre friendly was still in play.

The plus for ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI is that Alia Bhatt is a bonafide star in overseas and probably ahead of the male stars of the newer generation and Karan Johar has a value in the traditional overseas markets. The other director who has that is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So, a film like GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI sort of becomes a benchmark and ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI should surpass the business of that film. Gulf being in better condition now than GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI's time is an added bonus.

The film is going to easily surpass the numbers of TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR and JUGJUGG JEEYO in one week flat.
