Nobody writes for villains anymore; all the focus is on heroes-Nikitin Dheer

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; September 4, 2024)

After a five-year hiatus, Nikitin Dheer returned to television to take on the iconic role of Ravan in Srimad Ramayan. The character has had such a lasting impact on him that he recently got his third tattoo as a tribute to the experience.

He shares, “Playing Ravan was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s been an enriching journey.”
While his TV appearances have been sporadic, he maintains he doesn’t favour one medium over another.

He says, “I have always believed that no actor is greater than the medium. I don’t dismiss any platform or believe one medium is superior to another. I returned to television because of my desire to play Ravan, and I am grateful the audience accepted my portrayal. I plan to explore OTT and films again, and if a compelling role comes up on television, I will certainly consider it.”

In films, he is best known as the villainous Tangaballi in Chennai Express. Admitting that he has been typecast, the actor, who has been part of films like Shershaah and Sooryavanshi, says, “I began with a negative role and followed it with similar roles. Once you are on a certain path, it’s rare for producers to think outside the box. Few people dare to break the mould and see you in a different light.”

Nikitin also points out that today’s villainous characters lack the depth and menace they once had. “It’s not just me; an entire generation of actors, particularly those playing villains, have seen their roles diminish. Since the era of Amrish Puri ji and the 90s, the presence of strong villains has declined. Nobody writes for villains anymore; all the focus is on heroes. A strong villain enhances the hero, but it’s now rare to see a well-crafted villain with depth,” says the actor, who is set to begin shooting for a web series and a film.

Nikitin Dheer’s reply to Ravana tattoo row: "Mandbuddhi logon ne kuch read hi nahin kiya hota"

Nikitin’s reply to Ravana tattoo row: Mandbuddhi logon ne kuch read hi nahin kiya hota

Navya Kharbanda (HINDUSTAN TIMES; August 24, 2024)

Actor Nikitin Dheer recently found himself at the centre of a controversy surrounding his new tattoo, which features a design deeply rooted in Hindu mythology. The tattoo, etched on his thigh, showcases a Rudra veena — traditionally associated with Lord Shiva and, in some instances, with Ravana. Surrounding the veena are the Sanskrit words Eko Aham Dvitiyo Nasti, translating to “I am One, there is no second,” a phrase emblematic of Ravana’s belief in his unparalleled greatness and devotion to Shiva.

However, the tattoo sparked criticism online, with some users mistakenly identifying the veena as the Raghunatha veena, which is linked to Goddess Saraswati. A user commented, “Bhai yeh Saraswati Veena hein ise leg pe nhi banwana tha”, while another wrote, “Wrong place of body”.

Unfazed by the criticism, Dheer says, “People who understood Ravana praised the tattoo. Those with a narrow perspective, who haven’t delved into our history, mythology, etc. have a tiny, limited vision. Yeh mandbuddhi logon ne kuch read hi nahin kiya hota, unhe kuch kaise pata hoga.”

Dheer, known for his portrayal of Ravana in the TV show Shrimad Ramayan, also dismisses the notion that a religious tattoo cannot be placed on certain body parts as “juvenile”.

“I got a Mahadev tattoo on my arm, and people said, ‘ki yahan par nahi banvaana chahiye’. We are taught that our body is a temple; so no body part is impure,” he ends.

We are desi at heart and like it that way. That’s how we finalized the name Devika for our daughter-Nikitin Dheer

Neha Maheshwri (BOMBAY TIMES; May 16, 2022)

Nikitin Dheer wanted to become a father soon after he got married to actress Kratika Sengar. Understandably, his happiness knew no bounds when he held his bundle of joy for the first time. The couple was blessed with a baby girl on May 12.

Talking exclusively to BT, he says, “Holding my baby in my arms felt surreal! We are a close-knit family and we partake in and celebrate every joy together with equal enthusiasm. When my sisters gave birth to baby boys in 2018, I felt the same surge of emotions when I held them...it felt like I was holding my own children. We are five boys in the house and my daughter Devika is the first girl. So, the family is even more excited and prepared to pamper her (smiles).”

Steering clear of the trend of choosing unusual names for their babies like most celebs, the couple named their girl, Devika. Nikitin tells us, “We had zeroed in on a few names for both a boy and a girl. We wanted an Indian name, not a Greek, Turkish or Italian one. We are desi at heart and like it that way. That’s how we finalized Devika for our daughter. It sounds beautiful and is timeless. There is a lot of grace, dignity and deep meaning attached to the name.”

While the new daddy in town would have liked to spend some quality time with his newborn, he had to leave for Goa the following day. However, he is not complaining. For him, work is an important aspect of his life. He shares, “Yes, I miss holding Devika and being with her. But my producers have worked hard on planning the schedule, which was done in advance. I feel fortunate that I was in Mumbai when she came into this world. But this was a prior commitment and I am happy to be back on the set because work is as important as anything else.”

So, does he feel more responsible now? “I have lived a bohemian life. Shaadi se pehle I used to work aur jo thode bohot paise aate the usse I travelled. I would disappear for a while. Aur jab paise khatam ho jaate the toh I would get back to work. But after I got married, my approach towards work and life changed. Now, I have become even more focused since the arrival of my daughter. I have evolved at every stage and I can clearly see it. Harr cheez ek samay tak achhi lagti hai. I want to be a good parent just like my own parents even though it’s no mean feat,” he replies.

It’s a girl for Nikitin Dheer and Kratika Sengar Dheer

It’s a girl for Thangabali!

Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; May 13, 2022)

Actor couple Nikitin Dheer and Kratika Sengar Dheer delivered a baby girl on Thursday morning.

When contacted, an ecstatic grandfather actor Pankaj Dheer says, “It is a beautiful moment in our lives and hum bhagyshaali hain jo yahan tak pahuche. Wish for the baby and the mother to stay healthy.”

Talking about his son and daughter-in-law, he shares, “Nikitin is excited and thrilled that he has become a father. Kratika is doing well too. We are all very happy with this new addition in our lives and family.”

In November last year, the couple announced their pregnancy. Earlier they posted pictures on their Instagram sharing glimpses from their maternity shoot. “Happiness is on the way,” they wrote while sharing the photographs.

Just a few days before delivering the baby, Kratika shared how she was a little scared about her career post pregnancy. “The room is ready, bags packed, parents have flown down to Mumbai, we are all ready to welcome the new member in the family,” she told India today in an interview.

Calling her pregnancy “unexpected” Kratika further added, “It was in September, when we were vacationing in the Maldives, diving into the sea, when the news of my pregnancy broke. It was not about planned or unplanned, we just decided to go with the flow.”

Raktanchal Season 2 gets an overwhelming response

After the great success of their two web series, Samantar (season 1 & 2) on MX Player and Naxalbari on Zee5 over the last two years, GSEAMS’ new series Raktanchal Season 2 has also received a tremendous response from the audience. Produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar and directed by Ritam Srivastava, the series has created a huge buzz among the viewers.

Karan Patel, Mahie Gill, Kranti Prakash Jha, Nikitin Dheer, Ashish Vidhyarti starrer Raktanchal Season 2 had a global premiere on February 11, 2022 on MX Player and is getting an overwhelming response since its release.

Commenting on the release, Arjun and Kartk said, “We are extremely happy with the way the show has taken shape and the response we are receiving from the audience. We are delighted to be associated with MX Player for the third time in a short span of 2 years and will continue to helm many more web series with them.”

Commenting on the director Ritam Srivastava, they said, “Ritam is extremely passionate, creative, focused about every minute detail of the show and he puts his heart and mind in whatever he does.”

The duo are firm believers of quality content and are experienced in the production of films & web series. Raktanchal Season 2 is a crime drama inspired by real-life events from the '80s of Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. It depicts the crime that used to happen relating to tenders. The story is about the criminal empire of Waseem Khan, who is challenged by a young criminal Vijay Singh. While Waseem Khan is a pure criminal, Vijay is kind-hearted, who in spite of turning into an anti-hero, serves people as much as he can.

The story sets in motion, a clash for acquiring tenders with a political battle in the background, which unleashes a bloodbath in the city of Purvanchal. Vijay must overcome great personal odds to beat Waseem Khan and become the tender king.

Vijay Singh (Kranti Prakash Jha) may have lost the final showdown with Waseem Khan (Nikitin Dheer) in season 1, but the gangs of Uttar Pradesh have bigger graves to dig as the top guns of Bombay Police come knocking at their doors. Why the sudden broadening of the horizon?

‘Raktanchal season 2’ is about power over politics, and beyond…

Talking about the show, director Ritam Srivastava said, “It was a great experience shooting for Raktanchal Season 2. This show has given me a lot of recognition and love from the audience. The cast was very cooperative and did a brilliant job. Working with Arjun and Kartk of GSEAMS has been a fantastic experience. They are very much involved in the creative process and the production of the show. Not only do they have a creative bent of mind but are also extremely organized in the production process. They personally take an interest on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the shoot goes smoothly.”

We have stopped celebrating villains in Hindi films-Nikitin Dheer

Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; September 7, 2021)

Nikitin Dheer’s role as the tough antagonist, Thangaballi, in Chennai Express (2013) cemented his skills at playing the baddie. But even before that, the actor had played negative roles in Dabangg 2 (2012) and Ready (2011).

However, the recent release Shershaah gave Dheer a chance to break away from essaying similar characters, and play an Army officer. Ask him if he feels being typecast would hurt his career and he replies, “I don’t think anything is a roadblock as long as you are doing your job well. In other parts of India, be it Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, or Kannada, the villain is celebrated just as much as the hero, not only in the narrative, but also storytelling.”

Recalling some iconic villain roles Hindi cinema has produced previously, the 41-year-old adds that the trend has been missing in the industry for the last few years. “I really hope that comes back to life, so that young actors like us can aspire to be the next Amrish Puri or Praan saab. It is not only negative, but a whole range of characters they explored. People never treated Amrish ji as villain, they loved him as Mogambo (Mr India; 1987). Aise characters roz-roz nahin likhe jaate. Villains can be celebrated again,” says Dheer, who will be seen next in Antim: The Final Truth.

Talking about the need for variety in the characters he chooses to portray, Dheer says that he has just “started off”, and is trying his best to not be repetitive. “I see my career, whatever little I have done, and it’s all different from one another. I don’t repeat any character, and I’m in a space that I’m comfortable in,” he signs off.

I got to play an army soldier, on top of that, a real life hero; it was an honour-Nikitin Dheer

Nikitin Dheer calls OTT release a ‘wise call’ as web content helps audiences stay entertained within the safety of their home
Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; August 17, 2021)

Theatres are reopening in phases across the country, but makers are playing it safe and releasing projects on OTT platforms. As actor Nikitin Dheer’s film Shershaah took the digital route recently, he feels it was indeed a responsible decision in the present scenario.

“Looking at how our country is in a good space, people are able to earn money, things are getting back on track… we don’t want to jeopardize anybody’s well-being because of a film’s release,” admits the 41-year-old, who shot to fame after playing Thangaballi in Chennai Express (2013).

The actor believes that films are doing a service to people by keeping them entertained. “OTT release is a wise call, as you can watch a film in the security of your home. We are mere entertainers, we can’t change the atmosphere in our country, but we can change someone’s day by entertaining them. That’s pretty much all we can do. And that’s pretty much the idea behind it,” he says, adding that via this medium, “We could release in 240 countries, it was a simultaneous global release. I’m more than happy with everything.”

Dheer, who plays the role of Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia, in the film based on the life of Kargil War hero, late Captain Vikram Batra, has been getting many compliments for his performance, which is very different from the negative parts he has mostly done so far.

He confesses this was just the opportunity he was waiting for. “The makers wanted a guy on the taller side. He was one of the bravest soldiers and was called Indian Rambo. He moved to Kargil at the age of 25-26. They needed somebody jiska chauda dheel dhal ho. They approached me, and when I heard the script, it was fantastic, no two ways about it. Something like this comes in an actor’s life rarely. I got to play an army soldier, on top of that, a real-life hero. It was more than anything, an honour,” gushes the actor.

Salman Khan quietly starts shooting for Mahesh Manjrekar’s Antim

Actor has quietly started shooting for Mahesh Manjrekar’s gangster drama from Dec 6; film also features Aayush Sharma and Nikitin Dheer
Himesh Mankad (MUMBAI MIRROR; December 9, 2020)

Mirror (October 29) was the first to report that Salman Khan and Aayush Sharma are teaming up for a crime drama, Antim, to be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. It features Aayush as a dreaded gangster and Salman as a cop in hot pursuit. The film went on the floors post Diwali on November 16 in Pune. The makers shot an extensive chase sequence on the busy streets with Aayush and the supporting cast. They then moved to ND Studios in Karjat and on to Mumbai’s western suburb, Versova. After a 20-day schedule with Aayush, Mirror has learnt that Salman has quietly joined the team. He started shooting from December 6 at Mumbai’s Film City.

“Salman plays a no-nonsense Sikh cop who is on a mission to end gang-wars and land mafia in his area of jurisdiction. After wrapping up his action thriller Radhe in October, in which he sports a clean shaven look, he took time off to grow a beard,” revealed a source close to the development, adding that the actor will be wearing a turban too and for the first time in his 30-year-long career, portray a Sardar cop. “There is high security on the sets to ensure that his look does not get leaked. Salman wants to take his fans by surprise.”

The plot traces the metamorphosis of Aayush’s character from a simple villager to the most-wanted gangster, who gets into a conflict with Salman’s cop. “In this schedule, Salman and Aayush will be filming several confrontation scenes. While the cop is a serious guy, there is an underlying tone of dark humour to the character that is Mahesh Manjrekar’s trademark.”

Nikitin Dheer, who has worked with Salman in Ready and Dabangg 2, also features in Antim as a gangster, and has been shooting with Aayush all through the 20-day stint. Salman’s production team have taken precautions and are following all the Covid-19 protocols to the T. “It’s going to be a nonstop shoot through December and they are expected to complete the film by mid-January. However, Salman will take his annual birthday break in the last week of the year.”

After finishing Antim, Salman is expected to shoot for his extended cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, in which he portrays the character of secret agent Tiger. He has allotted 15 days to shoot for the espionage thriller. Right after that, from February, he moves on to the Maneesh Sharma-directed Tiger 3, taking the franchise forward with Katrina Kaif. “He has given bulk dates from February to September for Tiger 3,” the source shared. Meanwhile, Radhe is gearing up for an Eid 2021 opening.

Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif to shoot for lavish romantic song for Sooryavanshi in Hyderabad

Duo kicks off Hyderabad leg of Rohit Shetty’s cop-drama today; will shoot for a romantic song and action sequences in the month-long schedule
Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 13, 2019)

After shooting schedules in Mumbai and Bangkok, Akshay Kumar and leading lady Katrina Kaif kick off a month-long schedule of Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad today. The actress had briefly shot for her portions at Mumbai’s Mehboob studio with Akshay, and Neena Gupta who plays his onscreen mother. She now joins the team in Hyderabad and will be shooting a lavish romantic number with Akshay. The team will also be filming some big scale action sequences with Akshay who plays ATS cop, Veer Sooryavanshi, a character that first appeared in a cameo in Rohit’s last directorial, Ranveer Singh’s Simmba.

While Rohit’s stunt team has been prepping for the sequences since the past few days in the city, a source connected to the film reveals, “This one is the film’s longest schedule. Rohit plans to wrap it up before he leaves for Bulgaria where he will shoot for the 10th season of adventure-based reality show, Khatron Ke Khiladi, for around 45 days. Once back, Rohit will start filming the final schedule of Sooryavanshi in Goa with his lead actors and the antagonists - Gulshan Grover, Abhimanyu Singh and Nikitin Dheer.”

Like the Bangkok schedule, this one will have a lot of bikes, guns and daredevilry. Akshay had earlier shot scenes that had him hanging from a helicopter and riding a superbike on a runway in the Thailand capital.

Buzz is, the film will also feature cameos by Rohit’s other leading men—Ajay Devgn as Singham and Ranveer Singh as Simmba. With Sooryavanshi, Akshay and Katrina are reuniting nine years after Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan. The film will be their seventh collaboration.

After Abhimanyu Singh, Nikitin Dheer to also play the baddie in Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi

DNA (May 15, 2019)

After playing the much-feared Thangaballi in Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express (2013), Nikitin Dheer will play a baddie once again in the filmmaker’s forthcoming action flick, Sooryavanshi. This will not only be the actor’s second collaboration with the Simmba director but also with Akshay Kumar. Earlier, he had shared screen space with the Khiladi in Housefull 3 (2016).

Nikitin is all praises for the Golmaal Again maker as the latter gave him the memorable role of Thangaballi. He says, “I have utmost respect for Rohit bhai. I look up to him. I have immense faith in him as a filmmaker. He brings out the best in me. When I saw Chennai Express for the first time, I remember hugging him and crying like a baby. Thangaballi has been the best role of my career so far. I felt immense pride being part of such a wonderful film.”

Talking about playing an antagonist in Sooryavanshi, he adds, “Being a part of this cop universe created by Rohit bhai is an absolute privilege. Who can forget Jaykant Shikre (played by Prakash Raj), one of the most iconic villains of recent times, who received as much love as Singham. In Simmba again, the magic was recreated. That’s the beauty of this universe. The villains have left big boots to fill and I hope I can do a job that keeps the legacy going.”

The 39-year-old is equally excited to collaborate with Akshay for the cop drama. He mentions, “My father (Pankaj Dheer) did seven films with him at the start of his career. I remember watching him on set as a kid and observed the fire and passion he had. Then, I got a chance to work with him in Housefull 3 and it was a lot of fun. While that was a comedy film with a hint of action, this is an all-out action film. So, for me it will be like going to school and taking lessons in the craft from teachers. I can’t wait to learn more from him. The best part about working with actors of his calibre is that one walks away richer in values, work ethic and experience. I’m looking forward to it.”

Nikitin Dheer is back in Nagarjuna

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; August 23, 2016)

After expressing his anguish over the poor treatment meted out to his character Astika in Nagarjuna - Ek Yoddha, Nikitin Dheer quit the show 10 days ago. However, the actor and producer Yash Patnaik seem to have resolved the issue. While Nikitin remained unavailable for comment, a source associated with the show tells us, “Nikitin quit the show as the makers didn't utilise his dates alloted for the shoot. All his issues have been addressed and he would re-enter post the Mahabharat track in September. After his last day of the shoot (which was August 13), he shaved his beard and changed his hairstyle. He will sport a stubble now.“
-----------------------------
Dheer returns to Nagarjuna - Ek Yoddha three weeks after he walked out in a huff and blamed production house for “ murdering” his character, Astika
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; August 23, 2016)

Nikitin Dheer yesterday shot for a promo of his comeback on Nagarjuna - Ek Yoddha, three weeks after he stormed out of the mythological fantasy show. He left the show, saying he felt cheated as the makers reduced him to “just another character” overnight and did not allow him to take up other offers although he was barely shooting for a few days every month. Now, he’s back after a meeting meeting with the production house.

Producer Yash Patnaik admits, “Yes, Nikitin is back on the show. I was upset with him after reading what he had reportedly said. Later, he came to my office and said he did not intend to hurt me. He claimed he was unaware how the TV industry functions. But, he said he felt at home with the production house and did not want this [decision to quit] to affect his equation with me.” Adds Patnaik, “His father, Pankaj Dheer, and uncle, Satluj Dheer, are old friends of mine. I have been in the industry for over two decades and understand an actor’s mindset. We sat down, talked things out and decided to take him back — as long as he is keen to work and does not carry a baggage. We have invested heavily in his character, Astika. It was and shall remain a key character in Nagarjuna.” Nikitin chose not to comment and maintained an "all is well that ends well” stance.

Incidentally, his wife, Kratika Sengar, will also return to Kasam Tere Pyar Ki. After a time leap, she had quit the drama as her character was killed. Though producer Ekta Kapoor cast Shivani Tomar as the protagonist Tanuja, the dipping TRPs made her bring Kratika back on the show.

I feel cheated... they've murdered my Nagarjuna character-Nikitin Dheer

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; July 31, 2016)

Nikitin 'Tangaballi' Dheer's latest outing on TV didn't quite turn out the way he expected it to be. The actor, who plays the antagonist in Nagarjuna, has quit the show. He was unhappy after an overnight change in the storyline reduced him to just another character.

Nikitin berates, “The production house has wasted a year of mine by keeping me bound to this character, which didn't shape up the way it was narrated to me. After increasing my number of shooting days from 10 to 20, they utilised only 30 days in the past five months. Finally, they reduced my days to eight in order to save money. They even declined my request of working in a film down south now that I was free for almost 20 days a month. They were not accommodating despite me not being in an exclusive contract with them. Isn't an artiste's interest supposed to be taken into consideration?“

Nikitin's notice period will end next month. He adds, “They reduced me to just another character - it was neither a villain nor a hero. People are not offering me projects since they believe that I am occupied with this show. The offers further slimmed down as I have grown a full beard for this role. They have murdered my character and I feel extremely cheated.“

Nikitin Dheer to marry his ladylove Kratika Sengar on Sept 3

Gaurav Dubey (MID-DAY; August 28, 2014)

Bollywood actor Nikitin Dheer, best known for his villainous act in Chennai Express, is all set to tie the knot with his girlfriend, Kratika Sengar. Says a source, “Nikitin and Kratika have been dating each other for a while now. They have decided to take their relationship to the next level and are all set to tie the knot on September 3.”

The source adds that it was Pankaj Dheer, Nikitin’s actor father, who had introduced Kratika to Nikitin. “Kratika was shooting for a film directed by Dheer Senior and that was when the latter felt that she was the right girl for his son. He soon got in touch with Kratika’s family and when Kratika and Nikitin met, they hit it off right away,” says the source.

When contacted, Nikitin said, “Apart from family, a lot of friends from the film and TV industry will be present for the wedding. It’s a special day for us and for our family. It’ll be a regular Indian wedding; we are getting engaged on September 2 and we marry the next day. It’s a love-cum-arranged wedding.”

Nikitin Dheer replaces Tanushree Dutta in TV show?

Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; May 17, 2014)

Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta's short stint, as the host of television show Fear Files - Darr Ki Sacchi Tasvirein, is over. Nikitin Dheer, better known as Tangaballi in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express, has replaced her. It seems the makers didn't get the feedback they were expecting and, hence the decision.

However, the actress' manager denied that she was replaced, “That's not true. She was signed to host only 12 episodes, but went on to do 13." Confirming that Nikitin has been signed on, producer Nitin Keni said, "A contract can be extended or terminated depending on the feedback. The response wasn't too great and so, we decided to look for a change. We thought a male host would be a better choice. Also, I am not sure if she shot 13 episodes; my creative team says she shot one episode less."

Rumour also has it that Tanushree had a tiff with the production house. Keni refutes the buzz, saying, “I call it creative differences. But that could be between her and the creative team. There was absolutely no problem with the production house.“

Enlarge ImageEnlarge ImageIn a clear and clever departure from earlier seasons, this year the producers of Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi have decided to withhold the winner’s name from even the finalists.

A source from Cape Town, who was part of the shooting, says the decision was taken at the last minute. “Nikitin Dheer, Gurmeet Choudhary and Rajniesh Duggal were the three finalists. As per the protocol each year they were asked to assemble for the winner’s name to be announced. But they were told that the winner will be announced in India and they’ll be informed accordingly.”

One of the contestants, who did not make it to the finals, says they have not yet been given their full and final remuneration for participating in the show. “All of us, including the host Rohit Shetty, are sworn to secrecy by contract. We will be paid our final remuneration only at the end of the show,” he reveals.

A source from the channel says, “This time we haven’t divulged the name of the winner even to the contestants. Every season the name of the winner is revealed back home India as soon as the finale is shot. The suspense surrounding the competition is thereby ruined even before the show was telecast.”

Nikitin ‘Tangaballi’ Dheer to marry Jhansi ki Rani actress Kratika Sengar

Neha Maheswri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; March 20, 2014)

Nikitin Dheer, aka Tangaballi of Chennai Express, will tie the knot with television actress Kratika Sengar, best known for playing Jhansi ki Rani on television, on September 3. And guess who played Cupid? The groom’s father, actor Pankaj Dheer.

Says Nikitin, “I am not in the frame of mind to go out looking for a girl. I trust my father’s choice and my intuition. Kratika is homely, yet independent. We must have met 10-12 times before the decision was made.”

The couple first met in January this year, when Kratika auditioned for a short film directed by Pankaj. The senior actor developed a special fondness for her and told her that he would want her to become his daughter-in-law.

Kratika says she realised she was in love when Nikitin recently went abroad and she couldn’t reach him over the phone. “I was worried and that’s when I realised that I was in love with him,” says she.

“It’s because of his family that we came together. My father is happy to see the bond I share with my would-be father-in-law,” adds the actress.

Standing tall at 6’4”, Nikitin can make it difficult for any girl to match his height. Says Kratika, “I am 5’5” and have never worn heels. My male friends are not that tall and I used to tease them saying I cannot wear heels when I’m with them. Now, destiny has brought me together with somebody who is very tall. But Nikitin knows I have a back problem and insists that I continue wearing flats.”

Nikitin Dheer best known as Thangabali, the baddie who wanted to marry Deepika Padukone in Chennai Express (CE) has been finalised for Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (KKK), inform sources. Apparently, he is Rohit Shetty’s recommendation who incidently directed him in CE and is now hosting KKK. Nikitin so far has been playing negative roles (Dabangg 2 and Ready) and if he takes up the adventurous show it will be his TV debut. When contacted, the actor said that he had been approached, but nothing has been finalised “as I haven’t decided yet.”
