MR & MRS MAHI saw a noticeable drop in collections of Tuesday as collections fell around 15-20% which is higher than normal for a Tuesday for a film like this. This is still fine if it maintains well over the next two days but if the the drops are similar over the next two days, then a decent second Friday number will become difficult. Also the drop on Tuesday can be due to the election results as interest would have been there.

The collections remain better than SRIKANTH which did 1.50 crore nett on Tuesday but that film had a stronger trend as it was coming out of lower weeeknd collections. MR & MRS MAHI stands at 20.50 crore nett and looks to be heading for a 23-23.50 crore nett first week.

The film will be collecting around 5.50-6 crore more than SRIKANTH in the first week but the success of SRIKANTH was down to what happened post the first week. Hence, this film has to add well over the next two weeks or so. The film has fared best in the NCR region meaning better numbers in the Delhi/UP and East Punjab circuits.

MR & MRS MAHI had a decent first week though collections maybe could have done better over the weekdays. The collections were good enough on Monday but then feel on Tuesday which was probably somewhat to do with election coverage and then it maintained at similar levels on Wednesday and Thursday.

The collections ended the week a little over 1.50 crore nett and it needs to hold this level on its second Friday and then consolidate with growth over the weekend if it is to come out with a double digit second week.

SRIKANTH had collected 17 crore nett in its first week and this film is comfortably higher than that film. But MR & MRS MAHI is also a bigger film and more importantly the holds are not as strong as SRIKANTH. Also, it does not look to have that clean period which SRIKANTH had for 3 weeks with no significant release be it new or holdover. MR & MRS MAHI has scored best in Delhi NCR leading to better numbers in Delhi/UP and East Punjab.

MR & MRS MAHI had collected close to 2 crore nett on Monday which is a fair hold. The collections are down 70% from Friday but those were inflated due to the Cinema Lovers Day and fair value for Friday would probably be around 3-3.25 crore nett.

So taking that into account, the drop is more towards the 35% range. Obviously, with these small films, you want that Friday to Monday drop to be as less as possible with good scenario being no drop or next to nothing. But this sort of drop should be enough to give the film a run as SRIKANTH dropped 25% on Monday with lesser collections on the weekend and this is not far off that. The first week of the film should be around 24 crore nett.

The difference between SRIKANTH and this is that there is no clear run and that Cinema Lovers Day consumed a a lot of extra extra footfalls. If the film holds well over the next few days and the trend is good from Thursday to second Friday, the film may well emerge another surprise success. Hence, that second Friday number will be crucial.

MR & MRS MAHI had a good Sunday as it collected in the 5.50-5.75 crore nett range. It had a solid 20-25% jump which is a good on a Sunday for the film of this type catering mainly for the urban audiences. But it has to be noted that this year, Sunday has generally seen strong growth for all films.

The film has picked up almost 17 crore nett for the first weekend which is a decent number and even if we take the fair value numbers of around 14.50 crore nett that is also fair. But its always about what happens post the weekend for theses type of films as be it 14 crore or 17 crore nett, its just a platform where you have to go on from.

SRIKANTH was only around 11 crore nett for the first weekend and MR & MRS MAHI has a considerable lead on that film over the first three days. The real test is what happens from here on. Due to Cinema Lovers Day on day one, the film has decent numbers in all circuits but it will be the metros driving in the long run.

MR & MRS MAHI did good business on day one as it collected 6.75 crore nett driven by the INR 99 ticket rate at most places for cinema day. Earlier in the year, ARTICLE 370 had picked up 5.25 crore nett with a similar offer at the cinemas. So, it has managed to considerably have a better number than that film as far as the opening day number goes.

The opening day is also the fifth highest of the year till date after FIGHTER, SHAITAAN, BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and CREW. While MR & MRS MAHI is driven by Cinema Lovers Day, some of the other films are driven by holidays. Basically when Cinema Lovers Day is called by the multiplexes, it is working like a major holiday and the boost is dependent on how dominating you are in the market in terms of screen space.

Normally screens don't hold much importance due to generally low occupancy for majority of the medium and small films. But on Cinema Lovers Day, all this changes as occupancy becomes very good and so, the more screens, the better.

MR & MRS MAHI has a bonus of 3-3.5 crore nett on the opening day which is a good boost for the film but the fate of the film depends where it goes from here as it will come down to more normal levels and has to sustain from there. The business is good at all multiplexes all over on day one but eventually it will settle down as a metro film and it remains to be seen where they take the film.

There was another release SAVI also which managed to comfortably go over 1.25 crore nett mark with collections looking to be around 1.35 crore nett. This film would not have got this number if it was not for Cinema Lovers Day.

MR & MRS MAHI has seen a pretty decent hold on Saturday as it collects 4.50 crore nett apprx taking the film to a two day total of 11.25 crore nett. The drop is a little under 35% which is decent after the big boost on Cinema Lovers Day. It brought in a lot of footfalls for the film which would have been some of the weekend audience.

The Saturday number suggest that the film would have been having at least a 5 crore nett Saturday if it was a normal Friday release and that would have been seen a good Saturday level for this film. Obviously now collections are lower due to the bonus it got on Friday and eventually that Friday will mean the film coming out with a 2.5 crore nett better weekend then it would have on a normal release despite lower numbers on Saturday and Sunday.

MR & MRS MAHI will be looking a 16 crore nett plus weekend which is almost 50% higher than SRIKANTH. On fair value, it would be around 30% higher but the target is to be remain higher than SRIKANTH over the weekdays in the first week. It does not have the open field like SRIKANTH. The level of weekday collections will determine the fate of MR & MRS MAHI.
