Box Office India Trade Network

MOM held up well in China as it clocked business of around $1 million on Monday with a 33% drop the collections on Friday. The film has collected almost $7 million so far and probably has a shot at $20 million depending on what happens in the second week. It should cross the business of films like TOILET - EK PREM KATHA and BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION which are around the $14m and $12m mark respectively.

Previews - $220,000
Friday - $1,460,000
Saturday - $2,210,000
Sunday - $2,100,000
Monday $980,000
TOTAL - $6,970,000

MOM China Box Office Collection: Sridevi's Film Had A 'Healthy' 41 Crore Weekend
Box Office India Trade Network

MOM had good opening day collections in China with business of $1.40 million on day one. This is the 9th highest opening day ever in China for an Indian film. It beat the opening day figures of ANDHADHUN which released in China a few weeks back and proved to be a blockbuster in China.

The audience in China is more female than male for Indian films which always gives these female protagonist films a chance in China but it remains to be seen where this film goes in China. A HICHKI which opened to half the collections of MOM eventually did over $20 million and that would also be a good result for MOM.

ANDHADHUN has gone to $47 million plus with just a $1 million start while BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION went to just $12 million from a $2.5 million start so these openings hardly define the business and the next few days will tell which way MOM will go in the Chinese market.

There are 11 Indian films to top the $1 million mark on day one in China and they are as follows.
1. Secret Superstar - $6,810,000
Screenings - 55,865
Footfalls  - 1,584,246

2. Hindi Medium - $3,340,000
Screenings - 45,300
Footfalls - 682,127

3. Dangal - $2,490,000
Screenings - 30,364
Footfalls - 549,939

4. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion - $2,440,000
Screnings - 52,959

5. Toilet - Ek Prem Katha - $2,350,000
Screenings - 57,136

-------------------------------------
MOM recorded a pretty good first weekend in China with collections around $5.95 million including paid previews. It was the 8th highest weekend in china for a Hindi film and it was decent trend as collections did not drop much on Sunday. The weekend trend is better than PAD MAN but probably not as good as HICHKI which is probably a film in a similar zone.

Monday will tell where this film can go in China and it should hold well enough as that limited drop on Sunday suggests the film should get more than 50% of its Friday figure and might even be able to be around $1 million which would give it a chance of a good run. Even if the film was only to double up from here it would mean a better run in China than India.

MOM collected just a little less than ANDHADHUN in its first three days and that film went on to be a runaway HIT in China.

The opening weekend collections in China are as follows with the number of screenings over the three days in brackets.
1. Secret Superstar - $27,180,510 (181,796)
2. Hindi Medium - $15,771,827 (146,889)
3. Dangal - $12,512,356 (98,814)
4. Toilet - Ek Prem Katha - $9,096,164 (168,023)
5. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - $8,503,621 (61,909)
6. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion - $7,684,706 (144,520)
7. Andhadhun - $6,140,863 (104,533)
8. Mom  $5,730,000 (109,088) apprx
9. Pad Man - $5,210,521 (114,651)
10. Thugs Of Hindostan - $4,790,361 (87,516)

Spider-Man: Homecoming collects 48.25 cr in 9 days; Mom collects 26.25 cr

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING double up its collections on Saturday as it took its nine day total to over 48 crore nett. The film looks to be heading for 60 crore nett which will make it the highest grossing SPIDER-MAN film in India. The business of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING till date is as follows
First Week - 43,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 48,25,00,000 apprx

MOM also showed huge growth on its second Saturday as collections more than doubled. Its a decent Saturday performance considering all the competition around it though this sort of growth from a stronger 8th day would have been much more beneficial. The business of MOM till date is as follows
First Week - 23,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 26,25,00,000

Last weeks Hollwood release SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING as emerged a HIT as it grossed 1.75 crore nett on its second Friday and the film looks on course for lifetime business of around 57-58 crore nett which may just make it the highest grossing SPIDER-MAN film ever in India.

MOM had a drop of collections on day eight as it grossed 1 crore nett apprx. The film had held up reasonably well on the weekdays but as appreciation was missing outside a few areas this was always a likely scenario. A film like this which does not open cant afford to be over 50% down in the second week but that is what will happen here and it is likely that the film will probably fall short of the 35 crore nett mark. The business in 8 days is around 24 crore nett. The weekend should see good growth but the first Friday and eight Friday have cost the film dearly.

GUEST IIN LONDON saw a huge crash in collections with around 10 lakhs nett coming and the film will fold at around 8 crore nett.

MOM (Hindi) showed a little upturn in business on Tuesday as collections in Mumbai circuit jumped due to Gujarat. The film collected in the 2.50-2.75 crore nett range. There is a festival in Gujarat for ladies (Gauri Vrat) which helps collections as shows in the afternoon record high occupancy. MOM being a film for ladies is getting extra benefit. The figures in North are low but steady.

The film is going to be dependent on what happens on its second Friday and especially how well Mumbai and South can hold as that is where the film is going to do its best business. The collections of MOM for the first five days are as follows.
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday  - 5,00,00,000
Sunday - 6,25,00,000
Monday - 2,25,00,000
Tuesday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 19,25,00,000

The first week of the film should cross 23 crore nett which is the same range as HINDI MEDIUM (23.25 crore nett).
---------------------
MOM had a low first week of 23.50 crore nett which is similar to what HINDI MEDIUM grossed a month or so back and the trend of MOM on weekdays was decent but it remains to be seen if it can follow through into the second week. It has competition with JAGGA JASOOS but that is unlikely to take that killer opening to affect the run of MOM. Also, MOM has a screen at major multiplexes which will be enough for it to collect well. The bigger problem is the film has not been appreciated in Delhi /NCR/Punjab and its the multiplexes here that tend to hold well and take the likes of PINK and HINDI MEDIUM to good final totals. The film is dependent on Mumbai, South and West Bengal and these places will have to be very good on day eight for the film to pull through.

MOM (Hindi) had a good hold on Monday dropping around 25% on Monday to collect in the 2.25 crore nett range. Its a good hold but these sort of films that will only be liked by a limited audience have to be doing around the Friday number on Monday and in those terms it should have done better on Monday. The first week seems to be heading for a 22-23 crore nett total and then its all down to where the second Friday lands which will tell where the film is going.

The film has done well in Mumbai but North is very crucial for these multiplex films as it has a  large number of premium multiplexes and these theatres which hold strong into week two and three but MOM has not really performed in North and this is where the film will probably struggle in the long run. The collections of MOM for the first weekend are as follows.
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday  - 5,00,00,000
Sunday - 6,25,00,000
Monday - 2,25,00,000
TOTAL - 16,50,00,000

The film has done decent business in Mumbai circuit with good contributions from Mumbai city and Pune and should easily clock up around 9 crore nett plus in the circuit.

MOM Box Office Collection Day 3: Sridevi's Film Enjoys A 'Superb' Opening Weekend
Box Office India Trade Network

MOM had a low opening of 3 crore nett apprx in Hindi though these numbers are better than ENGLISH VINGLISH which opened in the 2.25 crore nett range in 2012. HINDI MEDIUM released in May had taken an opening of 2.50 crore but managed to pick up well and eventually score at the box office. The opening of MOM is actually much better than HINDI MEDIUM as that had a tax exemption in Maharashtra from day one so its gross figures are less at 3.20 crore against the 4 crore of MOM.

The film will be hoping to have the same trajectory of HINDI MEDIUM or something close to it but tax exemptions and lesser connect in the North will probably come in the way. The film should grow well on Saturday but unless the growth is phenomenal it will remain a low weekend and then it will be about the film coming into its own in the weekdays.
---------------------------
MOM (Hindi) showed huge growth of around 65% on its second day as it grossed a decent 4.75 crore nett. The growth is more on Saturday than HINDI MEDIUM released a few weeks back. Though it has to be noted that MOM does have a wider release than that film. The film doubled its collections in many multiplexes across the country. The weekend is still going to remain low but the trend is there for the film to make up ground over the weekdays. The Saturday growth is the best seen this year out of all the main releases. The collections of MOM for the first two days are as follows.
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday  - 4,75,00,000
TOTAL - 7,75,00,000

The film is scoring very well in Mumbai circuit with the circuit contributing around 45%. The film is actually a Delhi based though the film has a feel of a Mumbai film. If North India was to come on board over the weekdays for this film then it will do good business and have a good 3-4 week run.
---------------------------
MOM (Hindi) had a good trend over the weekend as it grew very well on Saturday and consolidated on Sunday with collections of 6.25-6.50 crore nett. The weekend is low at 14 crore nett plus but the weekend trend gives it a chance to score over the weekdays. HINDI MEDIUM released a few weeks back had grossed 11.79 crore nett with a tax exemptions in Maharashtra but on lesser screens.

It is a film that is mainly doing well in the five big metros (Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata and Bangalore) and it will be about how well these can hold from Monday onward. The collections of MOM for the first weekend are as follows.
Friday - 3,00,00,000
Saturday  - 5,00,00,000
Sunday - 6,25,00,000
TOTAL - 14,25,00,000

The target for these films is always for the Monday collections to be somewhere around the Friday collection and this ensures a good run. If the film holds well on weekdays, the issue it will face is a a big release every week for the next few weeks.
