MOM China Box Office Collection: Sridevi's Film Had A 'Healthy' 41 Crore Weekend
Box Office India Trade Network

MOM had good opening day collections in China with business of $1.40 million on day one. This is the 9th highest opening day ever in China for an Indian film. It beat the opening day figures of ANDHADHUN which released in China a few weeks back and proved to be a blockbuster in China.

The audience in China is more female than male for Indian films which always gives these female protagonist films a chance in China but it remains to be seen where this film goes in China. A HICHKI which opened to half the collections of MOM eventually did over $20 million and that would also be a good result for MOM.

ANDHADHUN has gone to $47 million plus with just a $1 million start while BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION went to just $12 million from a $2.5 million start so these openings hardly define the business and the next few days will tell which way MOM will go in the Chinese market.

There are 11 Indian films to top the $1 million mark on day one in China and they are as follows.

MOM recorded a pretty good first weekend in China with collections around $5.95 million including paid previews. It was the 8th highest weekend in china for a Hindi film and it was decent trend as collections did not drop much on Sunday. The weekend trend is better than PAD MAN but probably not as good as HICHKI which is probably a film in a similar zone.

Monday will tell where this film can go in China and it should hold well enough as that limited drop on Sunday suggests the film should get more than 50% of its Friday figure and might even be able to be around $1 million which would give it a chance of a good run. Even if the film was only to double up from here it would mean a better run in China than India.

MOM collected just a little less than ANDHADHUN in its first three days and that film went on to be a runaway HIT in China.

The opening weekend collections in China are as follows with the number of screenings over the three days in brackets.
1. Secret Superstar - $27,180,510 (181,796)
2. Hindi Medium - $15,771,827 (146,889)
3. Dangal - $12,512,356 (98,814)
4. Toilet - Ek Prem Katha - $9,096,164 (168,023)
5. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - $8,503,621 (61,909)
6. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion - $7,684,706 (144,520)

8. Mom  $5,730,000 (109,088) apprx
9. Pad Man - $5,210,521 (114,651)
