Siddhant Chaturvedi's Netflix action creature film Ramree shelved due to budget constraints

Siddhant Chaturvedi's action creature film Ramree shelved due to budget constraints

Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; October 13, 2025)

Hindi cinema hasn’t quite explored the genre of action creature films. Siddhant Chaturvedi’s next, an ambitious film  by Netflix India, was to fill that gap. However, mid-day has now learnt that the project has been shelved. Sources revealed that budgeting became an issue for the film, which was to be helmed by debutant director Neha Sharma.

Tentatively titled Ramree, the two-hero movie was reportedly set in 1945 and to be produced by Ajay Devgn. A source said, “Work on the film had been going on for over a year. Given the subject and the period setting, it was an expensive project. For an OTT film, this would have set a benchmark in scale and imagination, but budget constraints caught up with it. Even though the platform heads were excited about the story, there was too much at stake financially. So, they decided to not move forward with it.”

Another insider shared that a movie being put on pause is a common occurrence in the streaming world, where a project is considered greenlit in the true sense only when it goes on floors.

“Ramree was an idea in development that did not move forward, a natural part of the creative process where multiple concepts are explored. While some take shape, some don’t,” added the source.

As Ramayana’s teaser is unveiled, here is a lowdown on how filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari has roped in multiple talented and big actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Vikrant Massey, for crucial roles
Komal RJ Panchal, Priyanka Sharma (MID-DAY; July 5, 2025)

The curtain has officially risen on Ramayana. On July 3, Nitesh Tiwari unveiled the teaser of the two-part magnum opus, and it confirmed that the Indian audience’s optimism was well-placed. The three-minute teaser may have offered shielded glimpses of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, but it signalled that the filmmaker was bringing a world grand in vision, rich in imagery, and most importantly, honest in its retelling of the epic.

While it’s known that Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Ravie Dubey play Sita, Hanuman, and Lakshman respectively, mid-day has learnt that Tiwari has put together a cast of over 25 actors across India for his ambitious project. It is heard that megastar Amitabh Bachchan will voice the character of Jatayu, the divine vulture that not only unsuccessfully fought Ravana, but also aided Lord Rama and Lakshman before breathing its last. While Kunal Kapoor will play Lord Indra, Indira Krishnan portrays Ram’s mother Kaushalya.

A source reveals, “Nitesh has carefully curated the cast, based on visual resemblance, the actors’ ability to transform into their respective characters, and the gravitas they bring. The cast includes Anil Kapoor, Kajal Aggarwal, Vikrant Massey, Vivek Oberoi, Mohit Raina, and Adinath Kothare. Actors across mediums have been chosen as the makers wanted to get whoever was best for the role.”

Mohit Raina responds to rumours about rift in marriage: "Actors are thick-skinned"

Actors are thick-skinned: Mohit responds to rumours about rift in marriage

Rishabh Suri (HINDUSTAN TIMES; June 19, 2025)

Actor Mohit Raina has always kept a low profile about his personal life, but that hasn’t stopped rumours. The 42-year-old was recently at the centre of speculation about trouble in his marriage to Aditi Chandra. A Reddit post recently claimed that the couple had unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Ask him about this and how actors field gossip, he says, “I’m okay with people writing such things; it’s their job. I can’t do anything about it. Maybe we actors are thick-skinned; it’s important to be that. It doesn’t matter to us anymore.”

He shares that his family and partner initially struggled to understand the spotlight on his personal life but eventually came around. “Now they get that it’s all gossip, that people create these stories to get noticed. They’ve learnt to tell what’s true from what’s random news,” he says.

Meanwhile, Mohit is content with the praise for his latest thriller series, Kankhajura. “The makers were quite keen and said, ‘You have not done any experiment of this sort, and you come with a clean slate. It might surprise the audiences,” he says, adding, “I think I got exactly the same reaction in the first weekend itself. Audiences have now seen a different side to me. I got such good reviews and messages from people.”

After her breakout role in Made in Heaven 2 (2023), actor and doctor Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju returns to the screen with her second project, the psychological thriller, Kankhajura. The Sony LIV series — also starring Mohit Raina, Roshan Mathew, and Sarah Jane Dias — is the official adaptation of the Israeli series, Magpie.

The show follows two estranged brothers, forced to revisit their haunted past as memories twist into a dangerous reality. Haldar plays a Catholic trans woman from Goa who finds herself entangled in a dark mystery. She says working with Mathew — her on-screen partner — was a dream collaboration.

“With Roshan, it was wonderful and also a little scary as I am a huge fan of his work in Malayalam and Hindi cinema. I was a bundle of nerves just being on set with him. He has generous energy as a co-actor,” she shares. Despite her initial nerves, their on-screen chemistry and off-screen camaraderie quickly found a rhythm.

Thrilled by the roles coming her way, she adds, “The volume of roles that are coming in now are interesting. There is more curiosity and openness to casting me.”

Mohit Raina’s first birthday as a father is all about being with family

Mohit Raina’s first birthday as a dad is all about being with family
Syeda Eba Fatima (HINDUSTAN TIMES; August 14, 2023)

This year, Mohit Raina’s birthday carries an extra layer of significance as he embraces the joy of spending it with his wife, Aditi Sharma, and daughter for the first time. The actor, known for his role in Devon ke Dev Mahadev, shares that this conscious decision was prompted by a desire to savour the small yet precious moments of life.

“For the first time, I’ll be celebrating my birthday not only with my [six-month-old] daughter but also with my wife. Over the past three years, circumstances prevented us from coming together on this day. Whether it was the pandemic, work commitments, or other engagements, I missed celebrating with Aditi. This year, I deliberately chose to take time off to be with family and cherish these moments,” says Raina, who married Sharma in December 2021.

As he turns 42 today, the actor discusses the profound joy of being present to see his daughter grow up: “Friends told me how quickly kids grow up. I didn’t want to miss these early moments of fatherhood, so I decided to prioritize family. I was uncertain about taking a break, but I’m content with my decision. Being there to see her when I wake up and before I go to sleep is invaluable.”

While highlighting his preference for intimate celebrations, he shares, “I’m not inclined towards extravagant parties or social gatherings, as I’m an introvert. I attend events when necessary.”

Revealing the most cherished birthday gift he has received, Raina shares a poignant anecdote about a letter left behind by his father before his passing: “The letter is a treasure trove of blessings and guidance, containing life lessons and rules to follow. It’s akin to a gift from the divine. During moments of doubt or difficulty, I turn to the letter for solace and guidance.”

Mohit Raina: Wanted to do a romantic show for a long time

Mohit Raina, who is a fan of slice-of-life romantic stories, on finally adding one to his résumé with Ishq-E-Nadaan
Letty Mariam Abraham (MID-DAY; July 18, 2023)

Don’t go by the roles he does on screen. Off screen, Mohit Raina is a fan of romantic dramas, and counts Life in a Metro (2007) among the finest love stories made in Bollywood. So, when Ishq-E-Nadaan was offered to him, the actor jumped at the opportunity of adding a romantic film to his resume. In conversation with mid-day, Raina talks about how the JioCinema offering’s simple yet heartfelt story appealed to the romantic in him.

Edited excerpts from the interview.

Was it a conscious decision to do a romantic drama?
I wanted to do a romantic show for a long time. When I started working in television, I was never approached for romantic shows. In digital entertainment, I only did one series that had tinges of romance. I was waiting for something like Ishq-E-Nadaan. It’s a beautiful, light-hearted love story that talks about human relationships. Any actor would have grabbed this opportunity.

How did the script come to you?
When Avishek [Ghosh, director] narrated the script to me, in my head, I was on board already. Almost 15 minutes into it, I was thinking about how I would arrange my dates and was doing [mental] calculations because I loved the script.

Over time, has any love story—be it in movies or web series—resonated with you?
For me, Life In A Metro [2007] was one such movie. I liked the concept of [telling stories of] people in one city and how their stories connected despite being from different walks of life. After that, many people tried to emulate it, but it wasn’t accepted. I wanted to do something like that for a long time. Now, Anurag Basu is coming with a sequel to it.

At a time when love is all about right and left swipes, do you think people connect with old-school romance?
I don’t think it is possible today. Now, you know everything about the other person by looking at their social media profile. But back in the day, you’d wait for the person to go out, then see what flavour of ice-cream they are having. Obviously life is all about change. That was old-school charm, but I don’t think today’s generation understands that.

What is the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?
I got married last year. For my wife’s [Aditi Sharma] birthday, I collected all the photographs that showed our journey—how we met and started going out—and made a collage. I put it on the walls with decorations to surprise her. She was under the impression that we might only go out for dinner. So, this took her by surprise.

Tell us your love story?
We met through a common friend. There were no balloons or flowers, nothing lavish. My wife is definitely more romantic than me.

Why haven’t we seen you doing more work?
I prefer doing less but quality work, which makes my soul happy. I want to satisfy the hunger of the actor inside me. If I wanted, I could do a lot more work and earn more money, which is what everyone has been advising me to do, but I don’t see myself doing that. If I take on a role for the sake of it or do something that I don’t want to do, it will show. I won’t be able to do justice to it.

Do you feel you are typecast?
There is scope for more diversity. Sometimes, the scripts coming my way are [similar]. I would like to experiment more, which is not happening.

What’s next on your plate?
I have completed the second season of Mumbai Diaries 26/11. We shot it last year.

Sometimes, it’s nice to come across scripts that are heartwarming, and are not necessarily thrilling-Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta's 'Ishq-E-Nadaan' to take us back to the good old days

Lara Dutta says Ishq-E-Nadaan, with its slice-of-life love stories, reminds her of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s movies
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; July 10, 2023)

When director Avishek Ghosh narrated the script of Ishq-E-Nadaan to Lara Dutta, it took her back to the world of Hrishikesh Mukherjee movies. From Guddi (1971) to Bawarchi (1972) and Chupke Chupke (1975), the late director’s offerings were noted for their ability to look at the joys of everyday life.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films. His characters would make the story what it is. Ishq-E-Nadaan is special in that sense; the love and the relationships in this film are innocent,” says the actor, who was last seen in Kaun Banegi Shikharwati (2022).

Besides Dutta, the Jio Cinema offering stars Neena Gupta, Kanwaljit Singh, Mohit Raina, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Suhail Nayyar. Through three distinct stories, the movie explores love and life in the bustling city of Mumbai. The simplicity of the characters and the slice-of-life story drew Dutta to the film. She shares,

“I loved the innocence of Mohit’s character. The film’s concept—that love conquers all—[resonated with me]. Sometimes, it’s nice to come across scripts that are heartwarming, and not necessarily looking to be unusual or thrilling. Sometimes, you just want to switch on [the television] and want to feel good about life; it is one of those beautiful stories. Plus, it’s releasing in the monsoon. I can’t think of a better way than curling up on a rainy afternoon with [this movie] and a hot cup of chai.”

"What rubbish": Mohit Raina dismisses rumours of any trouble in his marriage

Tanvi Trivedi (BOMBAY TIMES; December 21, 2022)

The industry was abuzz with news of tension in Mohit Raina’s marriage. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Mahadev in the TV show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, tied the knot with Aditi Sharma in an intimate ceremony in Rajasthan in December last year.

Recently, he deleted almost all their pictures together from his Instagram account, including their wedding photos. This has given rise to speculation that their marriage is in trouble. Mohit has always been tight-lipped about his personal life, and the only thing he revealed about his relationship with Aditi is that he met her through common friends.

After these rumours surfaced, we tried reaching out to Mohit. The actor replied to our message, saying, “What rubbish. These rumours are baseless! I am in Himachal Pradesh right now celebrating our first (wedding) anniversary.”

He also shared a scenic picture from the mountains. On the work front, Mohit made the transition from TV to films with Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) and has been busy with web series over the past couple of years.

Medical drama continues

Upala KBR (MID-DAY; April 3, 2022)

Mohit Raina and Konkona Sen Sharma’s medical drama gets the green signal for another season. After the success of Nikkhil Advani’s Mumbai Diaries: 26/11, Amazon Prime Video is keen to keep the story going with multiple seasons.

A source from the creative team informs, “The sequel is expected to go on floors by summer this year in Mumbai. The schedule is being drawn up.”

While the principal cast remains the same, a new story will unfold in the second edition. “The staff of Bombay General Hospital will experience a different crisis in Mumbai this time. All the characters played by Tina Desai, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Satyajeet Dubey, Natasha Bharadwaj, Mrunmayee Deshpande, and Mishal Raheja established in the first edition will continue to be part of the second season,” says the source, and adds that the eight-part series will delve further into the backstory of Dr Kaushik Oberoi and Social Services Director Chitra Das, played by Raina and Sharma respectively.

“We will take a closer look into Dr Kaushik and Chitra’s personal life. Casting director Kavish Sinha is currently scouting for actors to play the new characters that will be introduced in the new season.”

The streaming giant and Advani remained unavailable for comment.

Mohit Raina ties the knot in an intimate ceremony

BOMBAY TIMES (January 3, 2022)

Mohit Raina made a surprise announcement on Saturday after revealing that he has tied the knot with his partner Aditi Sharma in presence of close family and friends. The actor took to Instagram to share the news about his wedding with fans, alongside pictures from the intimate marriage ceremony.

Mohit wrote, “Love recognises no barriers, it jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination, full of hope. With that hope and the blessings of our parents we are no longer two, but one. Need all your love and blessing in this new journey. Aditi & Mohit. ”

Soon after he posted the wedding pictures, industry friends congratulated the couple on their nuptials. Karan Johar, Dia Mirza, Mrunal Thakur, Karishma Kotak and Shreya Dhanwanthary were among those who sent their best wishes to the newlyweds.

Mohit is known for his performances across mediums — TV, films and OTT. He became a household name after playing Lord Shiva in the TV show Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev. He has also been a part of shows such as Mahabharat and Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat, apart from starring in the film Uri: The Surgical Strike and Kaafir.

The actor is known to keep a low-profile. A few years ago, he was rumoured to be dating Mouni Roy, but he did not admit to it. Meanwhile, not much is known about his wife Aditi, and Mohit did not respond to our calls or messages.

The silence in Mumbai during the 26/11 was scary and shook me-Mohit Raina

Mohit Raina: The silence in the city shook me

Fronting Mumbai Diaries 26/11, Mohit on how the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks brought back memories of his early years in Kashmir
Uma Ramasubramanian (MID-DAY; September 1, 2021)

Every Mumbai resident has a different memory of the 2008 terror attacks, each alarming and indelible in its own way. For Mohit Raina, it invokes memories of the deafening silence that had engulfed the city for four days. The actor, who is leading the retelling of the fateful night with Mumbai Diaries 26/11, says it was shocking to see India’s financial capital under siege. It took him back to his early years in the Valley.

“Hailing from Kashmir, the first superheroes I saw were the Army and defence officials. You are surrounded by [a tense] atmosphere in Kashmir, and sometimes, your memories are disturbing. I used to think that I have seen everything [as far as attacks are concerned]. But then, we witnessed something like this in Mumbai, the financial hub of the country. The silence in the city [during those days] was scary and shook me. I can never forget it,” says the actor.

The Amazon Prime Video series, also starring Konkona Sen Sharma, sees Raina as a doctor torn between his duty and his concern for his wife who is trapped in a five-star under siege. Reliving the dark chapter of Mumbai’s history is bound to be emotionally draining. “The subject itself was challenging. Plus, this was the first time I was dealing with a subject that had a bound time frame. We had to showcase what happened in 48 hours, over a shoot of 40 to 60 days. So, that takes an emotional toll on you. You don’t have the liberty of playing with your emotions because [the story is set in] a limited time span.”

Though television gave him his biggest claim to fame Devon Ke Dev — Mahadev, Raina is relishing his graduation to OTT with hard-hitting projects like Kaafir (2019) and Mumbai Diaries. He agrees that the OTT boom has changed the business. “Kaafir was supposed to be made as a feature film, but it didn’t materialise. It went from one producer to another, before it was made as a web series. So, stories like these, which were not being told [on the big screen], are now getting an opportunity to reach the audience.”

When it comes to a solid Bengali actor, I can only think of Konkona Sen Sharma-Kavish Sinha

Before Mumbai Diaries 26/11 trailer drops online, casting director on how Konkona, Mohit were roped in after a table read
Upala KBR (MID-DAY; August 24, 2021)

Directors Nikkhil Advani and Nikhil Gonsalves are set to take us to the fateful night of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks with 'Mumbai Diaries 26/11', which focuses on the valiant efforts of the medical frontliners. Knowing that the compelling material demanded strong performers, casting director Kavish Sinha says Konkona Sen Sharma and Mohit Raina were his first choice for the central characters — a Bengali paediatrician battling her demons, and a doctor torn between his duty and concern for his wife who is trapped in the hotel under siege.

“When it comes to a solid Bengali actor, I can only think of Konkona. I had worked with Mohit on Kaafir; he brings gravitas to his roles. Nikkhil sir hadn’t worked with either actor before, and loved the suggestions,” he says

A reading session with the actors, to ensure that they were the perfect fit for the parts, sealed the deal. “Both actors did table reads with Nikkhil sir, where they read with the right emotions and nuances.”

Though Mumbai Diaries 26/11 is a fictional drama, the casting director says it is the result of intensive research. “The series is about the doctors trying their best to save the victims. We wanted good actors instead of popular faces. We auditioned for every character on the show, except [those essayed by] Konkona and Mohit,” he says, ahead of the trailer dropping online tomorrow.

Mohit Raina files complaint against four people for spreading rumours against him

ANI (MID-DAY; June 8, 2021)

'Devon Ke Dev - Mahadev' fame actor Mohit Raina has filed a complaint against four people who allegedly started 'Mohit Bachao (Save Mohit)' campaign on social media. On orders of the Borivali Court, the complaint was registered against Mohit's self-proclaimed well-wisher Sara Sharma and her friends Parveen Sharma, Aashiv Sharma, and Mithilesh Tiwari at Goregaon Police Station in Mumbai under sections 384 IPC on June 6.

According to the police, the four people have spread rumours saying Mohit's life is in danger just like late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The case of criminal conspiracy, giving false information to the police, threatening and demanding ransom has been filed against the four.

In April, Mohit had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. "After testing positive for COVID-19 last week I have been in safe medical hands of the Doctors of the state where I am based since last month . Everyday I see a gamut of human emotions. we are okay coz of them . Least we could Just stay indoors. Will see you guys on the other side. Love MR," he had written on Instagram.

Apart from 'Devon Ke Dev - Mahadev', Mohit is known for featuring in the hit movie 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. He has also wooed audiences with his acting stint in the web show 'Kaafir'.

A day prior to getting admitted, I was shooting with Bikramjeet Kanwarpal-Mohit Raina

Actor Mohit Raina says that although recovering from Covid-19 was tough, he can’t help but think of frontline workers
Kavita Awaasthi (HINDUSTAN TIMES; May 18, 2021)

Mohit Raina, who was hospitalized after contracting Coronavirus, last month, recovered well and is currently at home.

Raina shared pictures of himself in hospital, including one where his hand is resting on a hospital bed. The Devon Ke Dev – Mahadev actor captioned the post, saying, “As I look outside and inside I say a small prayer for everyone. Dad always said prayers work magically. I would request all of you to stay safe and pray for humanity… Everyday I see a gamut of human emotions. we are okay coz of them..(sic)”

Talking about the battle with Covid, the actor explains his ordeal, “Apparently, according to doctors, the virus was very strong and it was beginning of the second wave, so it went unnoticed for some time. After having severe symptoms, I was hospitalised for a long time till I was stable and discharged. I was in isolation till I completely recovered. I am indebted to the doctors in Lucknow.”

Raina was shooting there when he fell ill and also recalls shooting with actor Major Bikramjeet Kanwarpal, who recently passed away, days before Raina tested positive. “I feel lucky because a day prior to getting admitted I was shooting with Maj. Bikramjeet and as we all know he is not with us anymore. May his soul RIP.”

He adds, “Hospitalisation was tough but in the current scenario you can’t complain because what people on the ground are going through is beyond our imagination. I just pray to the Almighty that we all pass these unprecedented times. My takeaway and learning from these times is the same which I have always followed and that is, you don’t need much to live a happy and content life.”

Is Bollywood still tough for TV stars?

Does the small-screen tag still weigh down actors keen to make a transition to the big screen?
Juhi Chakraborty (HINDUSTAN TIMES; June 20, 2020)

Sushant Singh Rajput was the biggest TV-to-film success story in recent times. And his death has indeed brought a pall of gloom in the TV industry, especially to many who looked up to the actor’s phenomenal journey.

Actor Radhika Madan recalled how, when she was transitioning from television to movies, people always said, ‘Don’t do it’. “And I remember always giving them Sushant’s example. He made it look.. achievable. He inspired many actors like me,” she posted recently. Actors such as Mohit Raina and Karan Kundrra, too, shared how Rajput inspired many small-screen actors eyeing the big screen. But his death has raised questions on whether TV actors are whole-heartedly accepted in the film industry, despite the precedent of a certain Shah Rukh Khan.

Actor Hiten Tejwani, who has dabbled in both TV and films, with his last big-screen appearance in Kalank (2019), says in Bollywood, unlike in the West, some still believe in the demarcation of a TV actor and film actor. “But it is slowly going away. Casting TV actors does get a bit difficult as people have the thing of TV actors being over-exposed,” he says.

TV actor Manasi Parekh (below), who made her Bollywood debut with Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), feels stigmas around TV actors are long gone. “Whatever struggles he [Rajput] had, what he could or could not do, is his journey. We all loved him as an actor, he was extremely talented. It is unfortunate what happened. But we should let it be, not speculate,” she says.

Film trade analyst Atul Mohan feels talent is what matters at the end of the day and, in the recent past, there has been “a healthy influx of actors from the television world in films”.

Actor Rohan Mehra, who starred in the TV shows Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, besides a few films, says, “He [Rajput] was an inspiration; his death is a demotivation for sure. If your inspiration does this after achieving so much, what are we going to do?”

And actor Ragini Khanna, star of several hit TV projects and films such as Teen Thay Bhai (2011) and Gurgaon (2017), observes every industry is tough. “Films are not a step up and TV is not a step down. We should not look at it like that. As an actor when you are out there, who are you seeking acceptance from? The only acceptance an actor needs is from the audience,” she shares.

I should be more out there and try to beat Jacqueline Fernandez-Mohit Raina

Mohit Raina
As Devon Ke Dev Mahadev returns to the tube as part of the lockdown line-up, Mohit Raina discusses how his reclusive nature is at odds with showbiz
Shaheen Parkar (MID-DAY; May 31, 2020)

picFive years after it was first telecast, Devon Ke Dev—Mahadev is returning to television as part of the lockdown line-up. The mythological series made Mohit Raina, who played the titular role, an overnight sensation. His popularity can be gauged from the fact that Priyanka Chopra's aunt had stated then that Mahadev would be the ideal partner for her niece.

Even as he has graduated to movies and web outings, Raina considers the television show the turning point of his career. "It got me noticed. I am thankful for the immense love I still receive from fans," he says.

While most actors would be flattered to have fans and paparazzi following their every move, in Raina's book, that may not be necessarily a good thing. Known to guard his privacy, the reticent actor prefers to stay away from the public glare. "That's my nature. I prefer not to be socially visible. I want to lead a normal life as far as possible. One can only talk about something when s/he has a project that is up for release, otherwise there is not much to say."

As an afterthought, he takes a good-humoured dig at his co-star as he quips, "I should be more out there and try to beat Jacqueline Fernandez who has over 40 million followers on Instagram."

The actor recently shared screen space with her in the Netflix film, Mrs Serial Killer. He recounts that when Mahadev was at its peak, producer Farah Khan had got her kids, Anya, Diva and Czar, to meet him as they loved the show. "Later, I connected with her at Punit Malhotra's birthday party. She invited me home for tea, and offered me the role of the cop."

Raina, whose recent digital outings include Bhaukaal and Kaafir, is keen to balance Bollywood with the web world. He has wrapped up Kunal Deshmukh's Shiddat: Journey Beyond Love. "It was slated to release in September, but with the turn of events, I don't know how things will play out."

Nikkhil Advani's next is a web series based on 26/11 Mumbai Attacks

After Batla House, Nikkhil Advani helms Konkona Sen Sharma-fronted web series based on Cama Hospital chapter of 26/11 attacks
Mohar Basu (MID-DAY; November 5, 2019)

Konkana Sen SharmaIn August, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani had hinted that he was working on a web show based on the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai but refused to divulge further details. Now, mid-day has learnt that the director has quietly been filming the web series in the city over the past few months.

The eight-part series, titled Bombay Diaries, offers a fictionalised account of the terror attack that took place at the Cama Hospital. Advani has roped in an eclectic cast for the endeavour — Konkona Sen Sharma headlines the show, thus marking her foray into digital entertainment, and is joined by television actor Mohit Raina and Prassthanam actor Satyajeet Dubey.

A source reveals, "The show revolves around the hospital staff as they keep their patients safe in the face of peril. Under Nikkhil's supervision, the creative team researched extensively, digging out instances from real-life events and weaving them into the narrative. The actors too prepped for months before reporting to the set. Earlier titled Bombay Hospital, the show is in its last leg and will air on Amazon Prime Video early next year."

I have never met Dia Mirza or Sahil Sangha in my life-Kanika Dhillon

The author-screenplay writer reacts to reports, which claimed that Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha’s break-up is linked to her separation from her husband, director Prakash Kovelmudi
Rachana Dubey (BOMBAY TIMES; August 3, 2019)

Two showbiz couples, Dia Mirza-Sahil Sangha, and Kanika Dhillon-Prakash Kovelamudi, announced their decision to separate on August 1. In the morning, actress Dia and her filmmaker-husband Sahil posted a statement on their individual social media accounts. The couple did not reveal the reason behind their decision, but urged everyone to respect their need for privacy. Later in the evening, author and screenplay writer Kanika and her husband Prakash, who directed the recently released Judgementall Hai Kya, also revealed that they had parted ways. Both the couple had tied the knot in 2014. Though Kanika and Prakash announced their decision on August 1, the couple revealed that they had parted ways two years ago.

Some reports claimed that the two couples’ separation could be linked to each other. The reports alleged that Sahil’s closeness with Kanika was cited as the reason for his break-up with Dia, who, in recent times, has reportedly grown close to her costar Mohit Raina.

However, when we reached out to Kanika, she said, “I have never met Dia or Sahil in my entire life. Just because two news pieces of separation come together, you can’t link the two! I just want to get back to work and not be bothered with this malicious rumour mongering.” When asked if she had reached out to Sahil or Dia to clear the air, Kanika said, “Why would I do that? I have never met them. I don’t even know them. I just want to focus on my work and not get into all this. Please let us get on with our individual lives.”

Reacting to the reports, Dia, on her social media handle, wrote, “This is to clarify and put to rest all kind of speculation that is being bandied about by a certain section of the media regarding my separation with Sahil. It is most unfortunate to see the level of irresponsibility exercised. What is even more unfortunate is that our colleagues’ names are being tarnished and maligned. As a woman, I will not stand for another woman’s name being used so irresponsibly to perpetuate a lie. There is absolutely no truth to the alleged reports and no third person is the reason for Sahil and me to part ways. We have requested the media to be graceful and allow us this time for some privacy. Really hope they can respect that (sic).”

We also reached out to Mohit Raina, who said, “The only thing I can say is that the article has no basis to it.”

I got addicted to power on the small screen-Mohit Raina

Mohit Raina
Chaya Unnikrishnan (DNA; June 14, 2019)

Mohit Raina, who became a TV heart-throb with his chiselled physique after his outing as Shiva in the television serial Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev, made his big-screen debut earlier this year with Uri: The Surgical Strike. Now, the good-looking actor is set to foray onto the digital platform with ZEE5’s web series Kaafir, which is inspired by the true story of a Pakistani woman who crosses over to India with her little daughter, and gets imprisoned. Mohit plays a journalist who helps bring them justice. Here, he tells us about his digital debut, and why it took time to make the transition from TV to films...

Has life changed after Uri: The Surgical Strike?
Yes, I guess so. Filmmakers are looking at me differently. They approach me with various kinds of scripts, which they feel I will be able to do.

Why did it take so long for you to make the transition from TV to films?
That’s because on TV you have a lot of exposure on a regular basis. You need to disconnect and reconnect with the market because they are different platforms. TV’s demands are different from those of films. It took me some time to understand and relate to these demands and slowly, steadily make them (filmmakers) believe that I could portray some nice and different characters.

Now you are making your digital debut with Kaafir, which again has you portraying an intense character.
I had heard the story of Kaafir a while back and it was nothing close to the other subject (Uri). When Siddharth (P Malhotra, producer) approached me and narrated the script, I was looking forward to doing it because it would let me showcase different emotions. This is a story which was waiting to be told for more than 10 years. Bhavani Iyer, who is the writer, has been working on it for 13 years. I feel fortunate to be a part of it. This is more about human emotions and drama. I was sold in the first minute as to how could a person be so selfless and giving. He gave precious time and invested years of his life to bring a smile and happiness to somebody else who was a stranger.

You play a journalist in the series? Did you take any inspiration?
The profession is just the backdrop — he is a journalist and then he turns out to be a lawyer. What was important was the human journey and emotions.

Is shooting for a web series different from films and TV?
It’s absolutely different. Kaafir is an eight-episode series; but while shooting, you really don’t know which part is for which episode. You have to constantly be in sync with emotions. It’s not a start-to-finish schedule like a film where you shoot and join the dots. You have to be particular about your emotions and need to know the entire script.

How was the experience of shooting in Himachal?
It was good because we were shooting outdoors and we got a lot of time to devote to our work. Plus, we got to work in a natural environment. We used to shoot in a small town called Kalpa, which has a limited population. So, the locals were really helpful — we used to get home-cooked food. Conditions were tough, but they were workable.

You are doing a romantic film Shiddat next..
Yes, I am looking forward to it. I will start shooting for it soon.

You have a great female fan following, but we didn’t see you doing any romantic show on TV. Why?
Because I got addicted to power on the small screen (he played Shiva in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, Ashoka in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat and Havildar Ishar Singh in Battle of Saragarhi) and enjoyed it too much. But now, it’s time to explore those options.

Are you taking a break from the small screen?
As of now, I am exploring different avenues. If something great comes my way, I will see.

Diana Penty, Radhika Madan, Mohit Raina, Sunny Kaushal in Jannat director Kunal Deshmukh's next

Natasha Coutinho (MUMBAI MIRROR; May 16, 2019)

Kunal Deshmukh whose last directorial was the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Raja Natwarlal in 2014, is back with a love story. This one features Radhika Madan, Sunny Kaushal, Diana Penty and Mohit Raina and is titled Shiddat - Journey Beyond Love. While Radhika is opposite Sunny, Diana has been paired with Mohit. Produced by Dinesh Vijan, it will go on the floors in September and will be shot across Punjab, as also Paris and London.

“It has two parallel tracks focussing on the journey of both couples. The story has been written by Sridhar Raghavan and Dheeraj Rattan with dialogues by Dheeraj as well. The film will have a summer 2020 release,” informed a source close to the development.

When asked why a love story, Vijan jokes, “Well I got married recently, so I’m feeling like it, but on a serious note in this day and age where love is taken so lightly, it’s difficult to imagine the lengths people would go to for it. Shiddat is a not only a story about love but the distance one travels for it. The passion that overcomes maybe all senses or logic to do things that you wouldn’t usually imagine, the belief in something with all your heart and the drive to Shiddat.”

Incidentally, Radhika is currently shooting for another Dinesh Vijan production, the Homi Adajania-directorial Angrezi Medium in which she plays Irrfan Khan’s daughter who wants to go abroad for higher studies. Sunny is currently filming Sneha Taurani’s debut directorial, Bhangra Paa Le and will be seen next in Kabir Khan’s sport drama '83. Mohit made his film debut with the Vicky Kaushal war drama, Uri: The Surgical Strike last year. Diana, who was launched by Dinesh in Cocktail (2012) was last seen in Mudassar Aziz’s Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016).
