Hansika Motwanni has spent more than half her life in the public gaze, evolving from a child artiste at 8 to a leading lady by the time she was sixteen. But recently, that gaze has turned into a glare. Over the last six months, the actor has navigated a whirlwind of controversies — from a high-profile divorce to a messy legal battle and a subsequent defamation suit. Yet, in the face of the firestorm, Hansika appears largely unfazed, choosing to focus on work and what she calls her “sacred space.” Currently shooting for an untitled Telugu project with Nara Rohith, Hansika speaks to Hyderabad Times about navigating scrutiny, trusting her inner circle, and stepping into a new phase, both personally and professionally.
The past few months have put your personal life under intense public scrutiny. How do you deal with the constant chatter?
I don’t really take negativity or trolling to heart. Over the years, I’ve become quite thick-skinned, so these things don’t affect me as much as people might assume. What truly matters to me is that my mom, my family, and I know who I am. That’s the only reality I hold on to. I’ve always believed that my personal life should remain personal, and I’ve maintained that boundary very strongly. I don’t allow just anyone into my space, and I’m quite clear about that. If conversations are happening around me, I usually choose not to engage unless I personally feel it’s something I want to address. Otherwise, I let my work speak for itself and focus on what keeps me at peace.
In the midst of all this, your surname was changed to ‘Motwanni’. Was that a conscious move towards a fresh start?
Honestly, it was a very simple and personal decision. My mother came to me and said she wanted to make a small change by adding an extra ‘n’. For me, the only thing that mattered was that the spelling of “Hansika” stayed the same. I’ve always felt that name is perfect as it is. Beyond that, I didn’t feel the need to question or analyze it too much. I trust my mom completely; I’ve always been very close to her and I know she only wants the best for me. She felt it was a positive change, and I went along with it. For me, it wasn’t about overthinking or attaching too much meaning. It’s just something that felt right for her, and I was happy to go with it. At the end of the day, I was happy before, and I’m still happy now.
You’ve often spoken about the role your friends play in your life. How do they help you stay grounded?
My friends, especially my girlfriends, are a very important part of my life. Most of them are people I’ve known since childhood, and that makes a big difference because they’ve seen me long before any of this, before the films, before the attention. That kind of connection keeps you grounded. No matter how much noise there is around you, they remind you of who you really are. Every Sunday, we try to do something fun, sometimes it’s a sport, sometimes it’s just catching up. We also travel together at least a couple of times a year. It’s always the same close-knit group, and that consistency is comforting. In a life where so much is constantly changing, they are my constant.
You’ve grown up in the spotlight, starting as a child artiste and then making your debut as a lead at only 16 in Desamudru. How has that shaped you?
Growing up in the public eye has been a very unique experience. That kind of exposure teaches you a lot, very early on. I experienced the industry at a time when things were very different, before social media became such a big part of our lives, so a lot of my learning came from observing people, reading, and just being present on set. In many ways, I feel like I grew up faster than most people my age. Every set became a classroom for me, and every person I worked with taught me something. Of course, there are challenges that come with being in the spotlight from such a young age, but for me, the advantages have always outweighed the drawbacks. It’s given me a life full of experiences and learning that I truly value.
At this point in your career, what excites you most about the work you’re taking on?
I’m genuinely excited about what lies ahead. The kind of roles I’m being offered now are very different and more layered, which is something I really enjoy. I want to take on characters that challenge me and push me to explore new sides of myself as an actor. Over time, cinema has become much more content-driven, and that shift is something I appreciate because it allows actors to experiment and grow. For me, it’s about choosing roles that feel creatively fulfilling and help me evolve.
Your last Telugu film was 105 Minuttess in 2024. How does it feel making a comeback to Tollywood two years later?
Coming back to Telugu cinema now feels like a natural progression. I’m currently shooting for my film with Nara Rohith, and it’s an exciting space for me. It feels like I’m stepping into a new phase while still being connected to where it all started. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the audience here through new stories and exploring this next chapter.

Hansika Motwani to be tried for cruelty against sister-in-law in court

Actor Hansika Motwani is facing fresh legal woes after the Bombay High Court dismissed her petition to quash an FIR filed by her estranged sister-in-law, Muskan Nancy James. The FIR accuses Hansika and her mother Jyoti (also known as Mona) of cruelty and other criminal charges. We obtained a copy of the court’s order that has dismissed Hansika’s petition.
A source tells us, “Nancy and Prashant Motwani, Hansika’s brother, had a lavish wedding ceremony in March 2021. However, their marriage was strained from the start. A year later, the two started living separately.”
Last December, Nancy had filed an FIR against Hansika and her mother under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 498A (dowry-related cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (criminal intimidation and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
In her complaint, Nancy alleged domestic violence that she claims caused Bell’s palsy, and detailed demands for expensive gifts and money from her in-laws, as well as undue interference from the actor and Jyoti during her marriage to Prashant. She also alleged the Motwanis pressured her to sell her flat.
In February, Hansika and Jyoti secured anticipatory bail from the Mumbai Sessions Court. In April, they approached the Bombay High Court to quash the FIR, but on Tuesday, the court dismissed their plea, allowing the trial against Hansika to proceed.

Weeks after HT City first reported (on July 19) that Hansika Motwani and her husband, businessman Sohael Khaturiya were facing marriage troubles, the actor has deleted several posts featuring him, including their wedding videos, from Instagram.
This development comes nearly three years after their lavish wedding in December 2022. Sources had earlier told us that Hansika had moved back in with her mother. Sohael, who has been inactive on social media since 2023, has made his Instagram profile private, further fuelling rumours of marital discord. Meanwhile, the actor has remained silent, choosing not to comment on the growing speculation.
The news may come as a surprise to many who had followed the couple’s high-profile relationship, documented in the six-episode reality series Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama. The show offered fans an intimate look into their journey from Sohael’s proposal at the Eiffel Tower in Paris to their lavish wedding celebrations.

What strikes us the most as we step into Hansika Motwani’s home is the abundance of cultural and spiritual elements. From little evil eye wall hangings to idols of Lord Ganesha and Guru Nanak, and the chant of Ek Onkar reverberating through the hall, the atmosphere has a calming vibe. The actress welcomes us, radiating in a turmeric yellow Punjabi suit adorned with zari-details, all set to usher in Baisakhi.
It’s while we marvel at all the numerous markers of faith around her home, she tells us about her most prized possession: the Guru Granth Sahib. The reverence on her face is palpable as she explains to us how the Granth has been passed on to her family, and how it forms the central crux of the Baisakhi celebrations. She explains, “I have had the Granth in my home for seven years now, and we feel very blessed. Baisakhi for us is marked by a paath, visiting the gurudwara and then the entire family getting together to enjoy scrumptious food and aate ka halwa prepared by me.”
Raised by her Punjabi mother, Hansika believes she has got the best of both the Sindhi and the Punjabi worlds. However, she confesses that it’s the Punjaban in her that’s out there for everybody to see. “My faith is deeply rooted in Punjabi culture and traditions,” she tells us, adding, “Infact, I had vowed to visit the Golden Temple within a year of my wedding. So, I went to the Golden Temple sometime in October or November last year. That’s the way I stay connected to my faith.”
This year, it’s Hansika’s second Baisakhi after her marriage (she married Sohael Khaturiya in December 2022). It’s going to be a big family affair, with the actress taking on the responsibility of preparing the halwa prasad.
She shares, “For us, festivals are all about the family coming together. The celebrations will take place at my mom’s, and before that, we will do the paath and visit the Gurudwara. In our family, on most such big occasions, I generally make the aate ka halwa and serve it in the Gurudwara. This is because my mom is very religious, and she believes it’s auspicious for me to prepare the prasad. Also, it’s everyone’s favourite.”
And what about dressing up to celebrate, we ask her. “Oh, I am a complete Punjaban when it comes to dressing up!” she exclaims. “I love wearing Punjabi salwar kameezes. My mother used to love wearing Patiala. So, till today, whenever I go to Amritsar, I make sure to buy authentic Patiala suits for us. The only thing I can’t do is tie my own paranda. But dressing up is a big part of celebrating Baisakhi, and I am all about donning the big jhumkas, the tassels, the paranda… basically, full saj sanwar ke vibing with the festivities,” she gushes.

Quite a few actors and filmmakers have attempted solo-performance films over the years. Hansika Motwani points out that what makes 105 Minutes experimental is that it not only boasts of a solo performance, but is also a one-shot movie. Over a runtime of 105 minutes, Raju Dussa’s directorial offering tells the story of a woman encountering supernatural events.
“The story revolves around what happens with a woman in a bungalow over one night. A lot of it is about her headspace. It’s a single-shot thriller. It took eight days of rehearsals, and then we shot it in one go,” says Motwani.
In the past, Indian cinema saw some one-shot films, including Agadam (2014), Heegondhu Dina (2018) and Iravin Nizhal (2022). Motwani counts 105 Minutes as her “toughest film, mentally and physically.” The Telugu offering was shot last August at a Hyderabad bungalow. During the rehearsals, the team coordinated the chronology of the actor’s movements, her pace and camera angles.
She says, “The very fact that I had never done anything like this till date made me say yes to 105 Minutes. There are a few stitches in the film, here and there [to adjust the runtime].”
Motwani has attempted diverse genres in her 21-year career. But to her, 105 Minutes will be the biggest learning experience. What has been her most important take-away from it?
“This film has taught me that actors lack patience. I remember there was a 35-minute stitch-in take, which I had to do, and it was so difficult. I learnt so much about my own abilities. I have learnt more about cinema in this one outing than I have in the past many years,” she reflects.

It’s a special Diwali for actor Hansika Motwani as she celebrates her first festival of lights with her husband, businessman Sohael Kathuriya, after their recent marriage. The couple is determined to make this occasion unforgettable, sharing their love for the festival and their plans to mark the day in style.
Motwani expresses her excitement, saying, “It feels surreal to celebrate our first Diwali together after our marriage. It is mine and Sohael’s favorite festival. We look forward to Diwali every year, and this is the first time we are celebrating the festival together as one big family.”
Their celebrations have been a continuous tradition, even during their dating days. Motwani shares, “The festival is big in both of our houses. We make sure that we are together on Diwali. Even when we were dating, we made sure we were together on Diwali. That is our own personal ritual, which is all about being together and celebrating with family and friends. We make efforts to ensure we are not working on the day, and that has been the case this year as well.”
Motwani also reveals an endearing personal tradition between her and Sohael. “Sohael chooses my Diwali outfit, and I get him his outfit. That is our thing. Also, we give each other something. It doesn’t have to be very big, but it has to be something special. It is our way of saying ‘I am happy to be with you and I love you.’”
Their home is already adorned with “lights, flowers, and diya stands”, creating a beautiful festive atmosphere. Motwani’s love for lights adds to the charm, and she exclaims, “My house is looking beautiful now.”
This year, the couple is balancing their Diwali celebrations in two households, and they are eagerly anticipating the festivities. “Both the houses will have Diwali pooja. We will manage it, but I am excited and looking forward to it,” she ends.

Hansika Motwani has always been “big on celebrating birthdays”. The actor, who is ringing in her 31st birthday today in Turkey with husband, entrepreneur Sohael Khaturiya, tells us that the latter has “planned a big surprise” for her.
“This is my first birthday after the wedding and Sohael is making it really special. In fact, he has been surprising me every day. Just being with him and exploring a new place will make my birthday memorable,” shares Motwani, last seen in the reality show Love Shaadi Drama.
The actor is a firm believer that “birthdays should be spent doing things that make you, you”. She adds, “I have been big on celebrating the day since I was a kid. I usually celebrate it with family because that makes me happy. For me, it’s a special occasion meant to smile, spread positivity and set new goals for the year ahead.”
Speaking of goals, Motwani says there’s “a lot coming up this year” on the work front. The actor, who will soon be seen in the Tamil film Partner, shares, “Things are looking very bright with all the releases lined up. My reality show got a great response and now, I am pepped up to do even better.”

Amid news of Paris witnessing riots and violence, Hansika Motwani has jetted off for a Euro tour with her family to ring in her mum’s birthday. The French capital is also on their itinerary. “We usually go on a family trip on my mum’s birthday. This time, we decided to visit France, including Paris, which is one of my favourite cities in the world,” says Motwani, who started the vacation on Friday night.
The French city’s suburbs have been gripped by riots following the killing of a teen by a cop, deterring several tourists from making holiday plans. Asked if this news made her rethink her vacation plans, the 31-year-old says, “I read about it, and from what I’ve researched, going to the city is safe for tourists. Paris Fashion Week was also held recently. So it is safe.”
The Partner actor is excited about the visit as the city “holds a special place” in her heart because Paris is where her husband, entrepreneur Sohael Khaturiya, proposed to her almost a year ago. “My first big film in Tamil was also shot in Paris. So, the city will always be special,” Motwani ends.

When we watched the first episode of Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama, we kept recalling Hansika Motwani as the child star we all knew through TV shows such as Shaka Laka Boom Boom or from the movie Koi Mil Gaya, with her cute fringe and adorable laugh.
Well, she is all grown up now. And is married!
The show—which traces the joys and trials and tribulations that came up as Motwani got married to entrepreneur Sohael Kathuriya—is smartly done, with the right amount of drama in a fun Sindhi household, candid moments and romantic overtones. And though the wedding’s in the forefront, the stars of the show are undoubtedly Hansika and her doctor mom, Mona.
“We never thought that ‘Oh, it’s on OTT, so, we will have to be a certain way,” says the mother of the bride. “It was the truth, and why be afraid of the truth? We are showing who we are!”
Hansika smiles naughtily when she says, “The reactions have been like ‘oh, this was a bold move’, and I am like ‘That’s me!’ I am very happy with the response. It’s called a reality show, and it’s really our ‘reality’. And I am very comfortable in front of the camera. When I see the episodes, I realized that no one has seen me like this. I am this child at home—pampered. I knew that I didn’t want to sanitize it—everything had to be honest.”
Hansika does have the fan following of a bona fide star—she is a big name in the Tamil and Telugu industries with movies such as Singam 3 and Villain; her 50th film, Maha, released last year. With the OTT show, the Bombay girl is now grabbing eyeballs in the Hindi movie industry too.
“But I have never felt that gap [in language]. Even though the South has accepted me so beautifully, I am a Mumbai girl. Thanks to social media, the gap [in stardom found in regional language movies] has been bridged years ago—they [fans] have seen me online, and they know what I have been up to.”
But the Hindi speaking, OTT-binging audience could be discovering her for the first time ever, and Hansika is glad. “Yes, I am glad so many more people will be watching me now. If I do a Malayalam film, there will be new fans. Any kind of new audience is welcome.”
Did the bike-riding Mona ji (as she is fondly called), have any wise words to impart before the show began? Mona has been in charge of Hansika’s flourishing career for the past two decades. Hansika laughs. “Mom came to me and asked, ‘Do you want to do it?’ The whole idea came about because I have such a big, warm fan following in the South. I was happy I was getting married, and I wanted to share my wedding with my audience. I can’t call all of them over, so this was the next best thing. Mom agreed, and supported it.”
And what about her own participation? Though Mona’s swag rivals any actor’s, she says, “I am a little shy and not comfortable; but I can do anything for my family, and so I did.” Hansika recalls talking to her mother while she was on a trip to Ladakh, and was surprised to hear that Mona was on a motorbike. “I thought, ‘oh my god’,” says the daughter. “And that’s where the makers picked the idea to include in the show. Mom says, “I just want to enjoy life’.”
There have been a few controversies—such as Kathuriya being formerly married to Hansika’s friend—and the star has addressed the prickly issues on the show too. The mother and daughter argue that they have nothing to hide and that the truth was out there for everyone to see. “As mom said, ‘Hamne kuch galat nahin kiya. Toh hum kyun darein?” says the actress, who has seven more projects lined up for release in 2023.
“The show is going to be good for Hansika,” Mona ji signs off. “These days, it doesn’t matter whether you are married or not. What matters is your discipline, and how involved you are in work. Hansika has been doing this for years—she is going to continue doing a great job.”

Last year, actor Hansika Motwani started a new chapter of her life when she got married to her long-time boyfriend, businessman Sohael Khaturiya. “A wedding is a fairy tale for every girl. I was surrounded by my loveable family, close friends, relatives and well-wishers as my best friend became my spouse,” the actor says in her first interview after marriage.
Motwani got married on December 4, 2022, at the 450-year-old Mundota Palace near Jaipur (Rajasthan). Talking about the elaborate affair, the Singam 2 (2013) actor says, “My mum played a major role in planning and executing every single aspect. My brother, Sohael and his parents made the entire journey smoother.”
While the 31-year-old has always been guarded about her personal life, for her wedding, she decided to throw caution to the wind and take her fans behind the scenes. A web show featuring her wedding celebrations will be releasing on OTT soon.
Sharing why she felt the need to share moments from her wedding with her fans, Motwani, who entered the industry as a child artiste with the TV show Shaka Laka Boom Boom, says, “Every fan is a part of my family. We wanted to have the presence of as many fans as possible, but that couldn’t happen due to logistic issues. Although I enjoyed my wedding celebrations, I missed their presence. I am glad that the show will allow my fans, friends and well-wishers to experience my wedding celebrations.”

Hansika says Love Shaadi Drama is her way of sharing her D-Day with fans; addresses negativity that surrounded it

After 20 years in the public eye, Hansika Motwani has accepted that flashbulbs will always follow her. So, instead of fighting them, the actor is embracing them. Her upcoming reality show, Love Shaadi Drama, which documents her wedding to beau Sohael Kathuriya, is an extension of the idea.
“My fans and well-wishers have been a part of my life for the past 20 years. So, when Disney+ Hotstar approached me with the idea, I thought it was perfect. I wanted [my fans] to experience my wedding,” she says.
The reality show will give admirers an inside view into her dreamy December 2022 shaadi. For Motwani, sharing her most private moments also stems from her desire to take charge of the story. Her nuptials were preceded by negativity as a section of the audience criticized her for marrying her best friend’s former husband.
“There were so many opinions, and people feeding in to fake news. If the fans want to know me, what’s better than me speaking about the truth of my life? I am not doing anything wrong. I am marrying someone I love.”
On the work front, the actor has seven projects in Tamil and Telugu, including My Name Is Shruthi, geared up for release. Motwani is happy to see south films getting their due. “It’s only the language that changes. At the end of the day, all we are doing is entertain. Now that the lines are getting blurred, it’s great. We are blessed that our reach has increased.”

Actor Hansika Motwani got married to her long-time boyfriend, businessman Sohael Khaturiya in a private ceremony on December 4 at a 450-year-old palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The actor had taken a long break from work for the wedding, and she’ll dive right back into shoot mode.
“The wedding turned out exactly how Hansika had dreamed of. She made the most of the break with her family and friends, adding a fun twist to every function. For a pre-wedding party, the bride and the groom had a stylish entry in a vintage car,” a source reports.
The actor wishes to get her work commitments out of the way before jetting off for her honeymoon. The newlyweds have picked a romantic location, and the wait is till the end of the year. “They’ve [planned] to go to catch the Northern Lights. In all likelihood, they’ll ring in the New Year on their honeymoon, and usher in the new beginning with 2023,” adds the source.
The wedding was attended by her family and close friends. As part of pre-wedding functions, there was a haldi ceremony on the morning of December 4, a mehendi and sangeet function on December 3 and a Sufi night on December 2.

Actor Hansika Motwani, 30, is all set to get married to Mumbai-based businessman Sohael Khaturiya in December, and celebrations will begin next week.
While the couple plans to tie the knot in Jaipur on December 4, a source says the pre-wedding festivities will kick-start in Mumbai.
“The actor is planning a close-knit Mata Ki Chowki to start the wedding celebrations. While the wedding is in Jaipur, Hansika wanted to start the journey of getting married in Mumbai itself. That is why she is starting on a devotional note, by organising a Mata Ki Chowki in Mumbai next week,” says the insider.
The source also reveals that the function will be organised by Motwani’s family, after which the attention will shift to Jaipur, for the rest of the functions. While a Sufi night has been planned on December 2, the mehendi and sangeet ceremonies will be held on December 3. The haldi ceremony will take place on the morning of December 4 and on the same evening, the couple will tie the knot at the 450-year-old Mundota Fort.
The source says the wedding will be a close-knit affair, but some of the actor’s close friends from the industry have been invited. Invites crafted in silver, with a touch of Rajasthani culture, have been sent out, along with handmade chocolates and other “shagun ka samaan”. “Hansika has personally worked on the guest list and is taking a lot of interest in planning the whole wedding. It is a special phase of her life,” adds the source.

Celeb shaadis and the Pink City share a symbiotic association. As per reports, Hansika Motwani is the latest celebrity set to tie the knot at a heritage property near Jaipur on December 4.
Hansika will reportedly get hitched to her friend and business partner Sohael Khaturiya at the Mundota Fort and Palace, about 45 kilometres from the Jaipur airport. The wedding festivities are expected to kick off from December 2, with a sufi night, followed by a mehendi and sangeet ceremony on December 3.
On December 4, the haldi will reportedly take place in the morning while the pheras are expected to be held at night. As per sources, the elaborate ceremonies will also witness an exhibition polo match.
A source close to the family adds that since Hansika’s brother Prashant got married a few years ago at the same palace and the Motwanis liked the property, they chose the same for the actress’ wedding. A lot of celebrities from the south film industry as well as Bollywood are expected to fly down to Jaipur for the wedding.

Hansika Motwani is set to get hitched in a month. The actor will tie the knot on December 4, we have exclusively learnt.
An insider close to the 30-year-old says, “The wedding festivities will be held from December 2 to December 4. It will be a destination wedding in Jaipur (Rajasthan).”
The pheras will take place on 4th evening, with Haldi ceremony in the morning. December 2 will see a Sufi night, followed by mehendi, sangeet the next day. The family will also indulge in a polo match. A casino-themed afterparty is also slated for 4th evening.
While a report stated that the actor is heading for an arranged marriage, a mutual friend reveals it is a love marriage: “She is getting married to her boyfriend of a few years.”
While the identity of the groom is yet to be revealed officially, we have learnt Motwani’s beau, Sohael Khaturiya, is a businessman from Mumbai. The two were close friends before dating and are also partners in a firm.
Motwani couldn’t be reached for a comment till the time of going to press.

She may have been flying below the radar for the past couple of years, but Hansika Motwani is busier than she’s ever been. The actress has not one or two, but nine films lined up this year. “I feel blessed to have such good work and diverse roles coming my way at this stage of my career. I like keeping myself busy, being kept on my toes all the time and trying out new challenges. I’m doing exactly that this year,” shares Hansika.
Her upcoming Telugu film My Name Is Shruti has gotten Hansika excited. “It’s a thriller that explores a phenomenon called ‘skin trafficking’. I had heard of human trafficking before, but I never knew such a thing existed till I heard the narration. It’s the kind of film that made me want to know more on the subject even as I was shooting. I’m glad I did something as unique as this,” she says.
Challenging herself to pick scripts that requires her to get out of her comfort zone has always been her motto, says the actress. “So, when I got the chance to shoot for a single take film called 105 Minutes, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Given how I’ve been acting since childhood, I thought it would be easy, but it took me 20 days to do the whole film in a single take,” she adds.
Although just 31, Hansika has been in the industry for nearly two decades, having made her debut as a child artiste in 2003. “People tell me that I’ve not had a normal childhood since I was on the sets all the time. Even as I grew up, I kept doing films. I was barely sixteen when I was cast for Desamuduru. But acting is something I’ve always been passionate about. It’s not just ‘work’ for me; it’s something that gives me unmitigated joy,” she says.
Having been in the industry for so many years helped Hansika develop a thicker skin while dealing with trolls or negative comments on social media. “I always knew that you have to look a certain way to have a successful career in showbiz. But I love staying fit and looking after myself, so I don’t feel the pressure at all. I started my career before the age of social media, so I’ve never experienced trolling when I was younger. Now, I just follow the same process that I have for so many years. So, I’m pretty much immune to trolls,” she explains.
With five projects and one series in Tamil apart from one in Telugu, the actress is confident that the audience will get to see a whole new side of her in each project. “I’m a greedy actor so whatever medium or role I get to entertain the audience, I will take it. But more than my role, I know that if I’m asking the audience to come to the theatres, the film as a whole has to be engaging,” she says, adding, “I’ve seen both films and television evolve as I progressed in my career. Things have changed so much; the scripts have gotten better. The way roles are written for women not just in women-centric films but also in commercial cinema has changed, so we’re heading in the right direction. I can’t wait for the audience to see a new version of me on screen.”

Actor Hansika Motwani feels the regional films tag only widens the gap between the diverse content being churned out in the Indian entertainment industry. “I have observed that the concept of ‘regional’ movies exists only in our country, the world always perceives our work as ‘Indian movies’. Now, especially after the remarkable feat of certain movies from the South, the scenario has changed completely. The pan-India culture encapsulating the collaboration of actors and technicians across the country has opened up a new market,” Motwani says.
The 30-year-old points out the trend of remakes to show how content always bridged the gap between regions. “Even before this culture (of pan-India films) popped up, there has always been a mutual exchange among the regional industries through remakes. When an idea, concept or story gets a phenomenal response, it eventually gets a remake. Today, it’s nice to see that people have started accepting the movies from every region. It’s a good sign, as it escalates the stature of Indian cinema on the global map,” mentions the actor, who actively works in Tamil as well as Telugu movies.
From Hindi projects such as Shaka Laka Boom Boom and Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), and Tamil movies such as Engeyum Kadhal (2011) and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012) to Telugu projects such as Luckunnodu and Goutham Nanda (both 2017), the transition from Hindi to other languages was smooth for Motwani.
“Every industry, be it Hindi or other regional domains, has always given support and respect to female actors. I have always experienced so much respect, love and support from every industry. From being a child artiste to female lead, I haven’t experienced any stereotypes or prejudices,” the actor concludes.

Actor Hansika Motwani starred opposite late actor Puneeth Rajkumar in Bindaas (2008), her first Kannada film. Shocked by the superstar’s untimely death, she says, “I still refuse to process that Puneeth is no more. It’s a big loss for the industry and for me, personally, as he was a friend. What makes it even more tragic and terrible is that he was only 46.”
Looking back at the time when she shot with him, Motwani shares, “I was just 19. I remember how polite and humble he was. I was so new and had no idea about the industry. Even though he was a superstar, he and made me feel comfortable. Since I was so young, he would always look out for me.”
The actor, who marked her debut as a child artiste in Hawa (2003), says that working in separate film industries didn’t let them catch up as often. But they stayed in touch over social media: “Every time we met, we always picked up from where we left. The last time I met him was at an awards function.”
Following Rajkumar’s demise, all film shows in the state have been cancelled. “The Kannada film industry has come to a halt. I couldn’t get through anyone in his family. It’s heart-breaking to even think of the way forward,” says the 30-year-old.
So, how has she been inspired by him? “He used to tell me to just follow my heart and that things would eventually fall in place. He would speak less and smile more,” Motwani ends.

After Amy Jackson and Akshara Haasan, Hansika Motwani is the latest actress whose private data has been leaked online by hackers. For the last few days, social media has been abuzz with ‘leaked’ selfies of Hansika clad in lingerie, and stills of her posing on a yatch wearing a bikini. Some of these pictures were shared online from Hansika’s personal microblog. The actress took to Twitter to clarify that her mobile phone and her Twitter account has been hacked. “Phone n Twitter hacked please don’t respond to any random messages. My back end team is working on getting things in control,” she posted. Even as a group of experts are working to restore her Twitter account and taking down her leaked pictures from social media, Hansika spoke to us about her ordeal and why the response by online trolls has come as a brutal shock. Excerpts:When did you discover that your Twitter account and phone were hacked?
I noticed that something was wrong with my phone ever since I went to the United States a few weeks ago. But it came as a huge shock to me when I realised that my private information and pictures have been leaked into the public domain. These pictures were taken four years ago and some of them have been smartly morphed by the hackers. I soon figured that my Twitter account has also been hacked and alerted my technical team to deal with it.
A lot of trolls have slut-shamed you on social media after these pictures were leaked. What was it like to deal with the backlash?
It was extremely disheartening. To deal with the embarrassment of your private pictures being leaked (some of them morphed) into the public domain is bad enough, and then to see such comments was really hurtful. Certain people had the gall to say that since I anyway did bikini shoots in the past, what’s the big deal if such pictures are leaked? Well, it is a big deal. Firstly, some of the pictures are morphed, which means they are not exactly my pictures. And secondly, when I do a bikini shoot for a film or a magazine shoot, I’m doing it out of my own choice. Here, it is being circulated without my consent, so there’s a big difference between the two. What has happened here is a clear violation of my privacy. This is the price I have to pay for being a public figure I suppose. Fortunately, there has also been a wave of support for me from various quarters. My fans and well wishers started the #IStandByHansika to support me and it definitely helped to know that some people stood by me.
What do you have to say to your detractors who believe that this is all just a publicity stunt?
I don’t need to seek attention from anybody. Right through my career, I’ve kept a low profile and that reflects in how I conduct myself on social media as well. That’s just who I am as a person. So if someone sitting in the corner of their room wants to say that I’m doing this for attention, I don’t think that such people even deserve a response. I just feel sorry for them.
Are you planning to take legal action?
As of now, a team of 20 technicians are working to ensure my phone and account is stable and they are trying to find out who did this. As far as the hackers are concerned, I’m sure God will punish them for their deeds.

- Don’t click on links sent to you by unknown, suspicious accounts Do not have your birthday or name or pet’s name as your password, ensure your password is difficult to crack
- Do not share personal details regarding education, address, etc on public profiles
- Don’t accept ‘friend requests’ from strangers
- Delete suspicious mails from your account immediately
- Delete all unwanted Apps from your mobile phone. Some Apps have an algorithm running in the background and can wipe out your data
- Make sure you read privacy settings carefully and follow them
Dhanush’s private photos leaked by singer, ex-RJ Suchitra?

Actor-producer Dhanush has come under the spotlight after a series of photographs, allegedly of him, along with other Kollywood stars, began surfacing online from South Indian singer and former RJ Suchitra’s Twitter account on Friday.
The images follow a series of allegations the singer made against the actor, including that his team had manhandled her in Coimbatore last month, with further reference to a “lousy game” being played on his behalf. Surprisingly, while Dhanush took to Twitter to promote his upcoming film, and also that of father-in-law Rajinikanth, he made no reference to the tweets.
While the singer claimed on the social networking platform, that her account had been hacked, fresh images and videos of actors, including Sanchita Shetty and Anuya, were leaked through the same account yesterday morning. There were also allegations that Dhanush and his music composer-friend Anirudh Ravichander had spiked Suchitra’s drink at a recent party.
This series follows a set of intimate photos of Dhanush, along with celebrities including Trisha Krishnan, Andrea Jeremiah, Anirudh, Hansika Motwani and Divyadarshini that were tweeted from Suchitra’s account on Friday. The singer later deleted them and claimed a private investigator had been appointed to find the hacker.
When asked why she wasn’t filing a complaint, she added that she was home-bound and her life was “under threat”. Soon after the photographs appeared on her timeline, her account was switched to the private mode, further fuelling speculation that the singer was indeed handling her account.
