DREAM GIRL 2 did good business in week two with collections of almost 28 crore nett which has taken the film to around 91 crore nett and the film is a solid HIT. It is the fourth HIT film in a month after ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI, OMG 2 and the colossus GADAR 2.

The release of JAWAN saw a major drop in its business but it still managed around the 1 crore nett mark despite being on limited shows. It remains to be seen if the film can hit the 100 crore nett mark which should happen as its an open field now post the release of JAWAN.

The film is a HIT but as a franchise, there may not be much scope going forward as business will eventually be 25% less than its predecessor. Although that has a lot to with the time being different and audience profile being different but less is less. Also when a hero becomes the heroine then you have limited the reach anyway. The target now for the film is to get to that 100 crore nett mark.

DREAM GIRL 2 is a HIT film as it collects 2.75 crore nett on its second Monday and takes its overall total to 85 crore nett. The hold on its second Monday is good with a 40% drop from a slightly boosted Friday. The second week is heading for a solid 27-28 crore nett and the film is likely to cross 100 crore nett.

The film has been pushed by the Raksha Bandhan period as there was a fall on its first Monday. But that good weekday period ensured good collections from Tuesday to Friday and this was followed by the second weekend. The results are much lower than the first DREAM GIRL but that was expected as this thing of male leads playing females or wearing bras is not going to work like it did pre pandemic as there is a bigger box office contribution now outside the metros. The male mass in Hindi speaking circuits audience which drives films like GADAR 2 are not interested in this sort of stuff and they are the drivers of big box office numbers.

DREAM GIRL 2 working this much is more than good enough for this content and the industry gets its fourth HIT in a month. Where the franchise stands is open to question as the business will be 20-25% less than its predecessor.

DREAM GIRL 2 had a solid second weekend as it collected 18.50 crore nett and took its overall total to 82 crore nett with good business on the second Sunday. The film is on course to emerge a HIT and the second Monday should conform that. The drop on the Monday will probably be more than normal as the Friday had a little bit of holiday factor in it.

Overall, the Raksha Bandhan period has been a big boost for the film which has propelled the collections of the film. It could even reach the 100 crore nett mark though a lot will depend on where the film goes today (second Monday).

DREAM GIRL 2 has done well in most parts though Mumbai circuit is a let down due to Gujarat which has gone on a totally different path to the rest as collections here are just awful while the rest of the country ranges from very good to good to decent. The highlight is Delhi/UP market which has crossed 25 crore nett.

DREAM GIRL 2 is looking set to emerge a HIT as it holds very well on its second Friday with collections in the 4.50 crore nett range. This takes the collections of the film to 68 crore nett in eight days and the drop on day eight is only 55%.

Normally this hold would be good enough for the film to called a HIT already but there is some leftover from the holiday period and there is a big cricket catch match on Saturday. It remains to be seen how this second Friday number is consolidated over the weekend and more importantly post the weekend. The final hurdle is the business post Monday as that will indicate what the film can do post JAWAN.

The film is a success; its the sixth one in the last few months and joins ZARA HATKE ZARA BACHKE, SATYAPREM KI KATHA, ROCKY AUR RANI KII PREM KAHAANI, GADAR 2 and OMG 2 in the success list. From seeing the worst eighteen months ever, the industry has gone to seeing its best period since 1997 and there is JAWAN to come.
