Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui collects 20.55 cr in 2 weeks

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI had a 75% fall in collections in week two which is huge fall for a film of this type as the film faced rejection from the public. The film had a low start and there are various reasons for that but when a film falls like it did on the weekdays and second week, the biggest problem is the content.

There was the juggernaut of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME in week two but still its not as if CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI needed huge footfalls to sustain a bit better than it has. The two week total 20.50 crore nett for the film and you can expected to add another 0.5-0.75 crore nett for a finish of 22 crore nett plus and this is probably best case scenario.

The collections of the film are a little better in NCR and East Punjab but that hardly matters are the the overall numbers are poor here also.

The collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI till date are as follows.
Week One - 16,80,00,000
Week Two - 3,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 20,55,00,000 apprx

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI remained steady on Tuesday with hardly any drop from Monday but the collections were low. If it was doing this at the 2.50 crore nett level then irrespective of poor weekend you would at least know the content of the film has worked but the audience is limited at present.

The film actually saw a jump in some cinemas on Tuesday but due to collections being low, this hardly matter as with such low occupancy and SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME juggernaut at multiplexes over the weekend, there is no where for CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI to go.

The week is now looking at business of 18.50 crore nett and the 25 crore nett mark for lifetime looks a task for the film.

The collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI till date are as follows.
Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,70,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 15,70,00,000 apprx

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI could not really pick up over the weekend as it had a 12 crore nett plus weekend. The film opened to low numbers but there was still hope as the second day would be crucial and a strong pick up would put the film back in the race but it did not happen.

The collections did improve on Saturday but not the way it should have and then on Sunday the growth was going to limited as the ratio of business coming from high growth areas like Gujarat, MP and UP is very low. It has been said over the last two weeks that the new Coronavirus variant Omicron has affected audience mentality and kept them away but that is not the case as SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME will see the audience back in huge numbers. This is not to say that Omicron will not affect as you never know how the pandemic plays out in time, but at the moment Omicron is not even an issue at the box office.

The problem facing CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI was that it was that urban multiplex film which may have become an OTT film now post the pandemic. It cant be said with certainty yet but at the end of the daym a film in this zone should not be collecting less than the likes of ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH and TADAP over the weekend as those films will hardly have an audience at bigger multiplexes but because of mass support in certain parts of the country they managed to get better numbers.

The multiplexes in NCR which drive these sort of films were better but just never went up on Saturday like they did before the pandemic. The film had a very Punjabi feel but even there Gurgaon and Chandigarh was like 45% of the East Punjab circuit while others did not collect well

A lot of the content coming from the industry pre pandemic was television content but with a normal market, it sometimes managed to score at the box office (read VICKY DONOR, NEERJA, KAHAANI, PINK, ANDHADHUN, etc) but the story seems to have changed now and many of these types of pending films could opt for digital premieres. Its bad timing as with the box office just starting again and most Hindi films in this zone they had to give the box office support as the big films are limited.

The collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI till date are as follows.
 Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 12,25,00,000 apprx
------------------
CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI dropped a little over 40% on Monday which is better than normal trending but not for this type of film which depends on the business post the weekend and which opened with too low numbers on day one.

The first week of the film will close at 18 crore nett plus and it wont be going much further due to big films releasing over the next three weeks and all targeting the big city multiplex audience. The film will record the best post pandemic numbers after SOORYAVANSHI in Delhi city, Noida, Gurgaon and Chandigarh but these numbers are far lower than they should be. Delhi city is heading for a lifetime number of 4 crore nett on a best case scenario. This is the sort of number a film like this can cover over the weekend even if appreciation is not really there as its the target audience.

The collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI till date are as follows.
Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,75,00,000 apprx

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui collects 7.50 cr in 2 days

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI collected 4.25 crore nett on Saturday to take its total to 7.50 crore nett apprx over two days. There was some decent growth of 30-35% over the first day was this was not good enough as it needed a minimum of 50% and preferably it should have been over 60% or even higher.

There is an issue with the business in the big city multiplexes as the audiences in these places seems to be much less than before the pandemic. This could be seen in the collections of the likes of ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH and TADAP. But those films were not aimed at this audience and so it was sort of expected that when a film which is more for the premium multiplex audience would come then this audience would come. But it has not turned out that way.

It can be that the film also has not been liked that much by the audience but it does look more than that as despite its better collections in the Delhi NCR, it should be doing far better. This is that the premium multiplex market and CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI is a film which this crowd will come for at least initially but here the film is doing just 20-25% better than a Punjabi film like HONSLA RAKH in Delhi city. Yes there was no competition at the time of HONSLA RAKH but at the end of the day, its a Punjabi film and its not as if the likes of SOORYAVANSHI, ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH or TADAP are doing huge business in Delhi city.

Saturday was the key day for CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI as even after the low start, it still had a chance but this decent growth of 30-35% is not really good enough.

The collections of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI till date are as follows.
 Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 7,50,00,000 apprx

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui collects 3.25 cr on Day 1

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui Review: Ayushmann Khurrana Has A Great Time, Vaani Kapoor Is A Revelation
Box Office India Trade Network

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI had a low first day of 3.25 crore nett though collections from Delhi city, Gurgaon, Noida and Chandigarh were pretty decent. These four cities with around 100 cinemas contributed almost one third of the all India business of the film while the other 1200 plus contributed the rest.

East Punjab has seen the highest first day number after SOORYAVANSHI and its the same in all cinemas in Delhi NCR (except Ghaziabad). The Delhi/UP number could not reach the level of TADAP and ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH as collections from UP state were not good. Gujarat which is the area giving pre pandemic performance was very dull and always unlikely to accept this sort of content.

The bigger problem with the film has come in the metros like Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune as these have to support the film for it to have a chance to collect well. Generally there is a problem with the metro audience coming out like it did before the pandemic. For SOORYAVANSHI, this audience came out and its not that the likes of SOORYAVANSHI break records in metros but basically the audience came out at a level close to it would for SOORYAVANSHI pre pandemic.

But since then, the collections in the metro multiplexes have not been good, but the likes of TADAP and ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH put up reasonable numbers due to support from mass markets. CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI was never going to got support from the likes of UP, Gujarat, MP etc and the hope was this would bring out that big city multiplex audience which is the target audience for this film but it was not to be.

This metro multiplex audience should come out for the likes of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and '83. But those are huge films while the industry needs the metro multiplex audience to come out for the likes of CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI to be on the right track as there as so many films made like this and it was this audience which gave these type of films some numbers.

CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI will show growth on the second day but there is a lot of ground to cover as this is low starting point and so the growth has to be huge. There were many films showing 60-80% growth pre pandemic driven by the metros but it seems a different scenario at present.
