BADHAAI DO showed a good hold in its second weekend with collections of 4.25 crore nett which is a drop of around 40% from the first weekend. The overall collections are low but that was always going to be case and it was going to be about the trend of the film and its sustained well enough till now.
It should go on and finish over the 20 crore nett mark from here though a lot depends on how it collects when GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI opens on Friday.
The business of BADHAAI DO till date is as follows.
First Week - 11,12,00,000
Friday - 75,00,000
Saturday - 1,50,00,000
Sunday - 2,00,00,000
Second Weekend - 4,25,00,000
TOTAL - 15,37,00,000

BADHAAI DO saw a decent hold on its second Friday as it dropped around 5% from the previous day to collect 70-75 lakhs nett takings overall collections to around 12.50 crore nett. This should enable the film to get some fair second week numbers and they could be higher than many of the films released in the post Coronavirus era.
The lifetime number for the film should be around 17-18 crore nett which is not good but is far better compared to a film on CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI which did 22 crore nett but was a bigger film with higher expectations. Both films had a similar theme and hopefully this would be the end of these type of films from the Hindi film industry as the public will always prefer movies on normal human relationships and not same sex relationships.
There was another Hindi release PYAAR MEIN THODA TWIST on a few cinemas here or there but found no audience.
The Hollywood film UNCHARTED did decent business on day one raking up 1.50 crore nett. There was no expectations from this film but the film has managed to get a number similar to BADHAAI DO on day one. The film is based on a video game but the reports are not too good in the West. However, it managed to find a healthy audience in the metros of India.
UNCHARTED has Tom Holland and this may have helped a little as he is known for playing Spider-Man. So, that little bit of face value may have aided the collections of the film.

BADHAAI DO had low first week collections of a little under 12 crore nett though the trend of the film is decent with Thursday collections still being 50% of the first day. The problem is when you don't open well, you hope that Thursday ends pretty close to day day one.
If the film can record collections on the second Friday which are similar to Thursday, then it can add another 4-5 crore nett in week two. The last two year has seen mainly disasters out of the 60 films released and if this film does not crash out this week this film film will avoid being a disaster.
Since January 2021 there has been one HIT (SOORYAVANSHI) and 3 flops (ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH, TADAP and ROOHI) while all others are disasters. This film will be in same category of ANTIM - THE FINAL TRUTH, TADAP and ROOHI if it does not totally crash out in week two.
The first week business of BADHAAI DO is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,35,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,85,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 90,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 11,85,00,000 apprx

BADHAAI DO saw a drop in collections on Tuesday as it collected 1 crore nett. This means fair value was around 1.15-1.20 crore nett for Monday which is a 20-25% drop from day one. The trend is still fair for the film but the numbers are low and if it could have done 20-30% more on Tuesday it would have been a good result.
The Tuesday number is still good enough for the film to get a decent week. However, 20 crore nett now looks a best case scenario and it may have to settle for a little less. The target for second week will be to beat the numbers of films like CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI, TADAP and ROOHI. The five day total is 10.25 crore nett apprx and the first week is looking to be around 12 crore nett for the film.
The five day business of BADHAAI DO is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,35,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,85,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 10,20,00,000 apprx

BADHAAI DO grossed 1.85 crore nett on Monday as Valentines Day gave collections a boost. The fair value collection could be around 1.25 crore nett but it will be the Tuesday number that will tell where the fair value for Monday falls.
The 9 crore nett plus collections in four days remain low but the crucial day is Tuesday as if this can hold well then there is a chance that this film can get decent second week collections.
Mysore and West Bengal remain the best performing circuits and both are on course to beat the CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI first week numbers. These two circuits will be the only ones where the film goes above CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI in week one but hopefully it scores better in week two across all circuits.
The weekend business of BADHAAI DO is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,35,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,85,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 9,20,00,000 apprx

BADHAAI DO managed to show a good trend over its first weekend as it showed 65% growth on day two and 35% growth on day three. The growth on day three was solid for a film of this genre and the main multiplex chains alone showed 30% plus growth which is very good for a Sunday.
The non multiplex chains showed more growth but they could have been even better considering it was a Sunday and the gap should have been more between the national and non national chains. These were probably held back due to the theme of the film.
The weekend business of the film is a little over 7.25 crore nett which is not much of a total and is a low weekend number. However, thanks to the trend, the film has a chance of finishing up with a respectable number. A similar but bigger film like CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI finished with 22.50 crore nett. So, if this film can get to around 20 crore nett, it would be a respectable number considering the present situation with night shows which was not there when CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI was released.
BADHAAI DO probably lost around 1-1.25 crore nett due to no night shows in most of the states. The likely best market for the film Delhi NCR was probably worst hit. Mysore turned out the best market as this did have night shows and here the film has done more than CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI over the first weekend.
The weekend business of BADHAAI DO is as follows.
Friday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 3,35,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 7,35,00,000 apprx

The first day collections of BADHAAI DO will come in the 1.50-1.75 crore nett range with Mumbai and Delhi/UP circuits looking to contribute around 1 crore nett. The number looks low but its pretty much par for the course if you consider the LQBQT theme of the film, no night shows in most states and limited awareness that films have started to release again in theatres.
If night shows had been there, it could have been a near 2 crore nett opening which would have been better than many Rajkummar Rao starrers pre covid. There were night shows only in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and South. The bigger question for these films is can they go on from the first day and that has been the problem for these films with mainly a metro audience post Covid-19.
The bulk of the audience has come from Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkatta and Bangalore. In Mysore circuit it is almost the same as CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI which did 13 lakhs nett and BADHAAI DO has done 12 lakhs nett. In West Bengal, this film has done 9 lakhs and CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI did the same number.
The theme of the film like CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI is a huge issue for the film as it is for a limited audience and if that big weekend growth does not come, then this theme will have a lot to do with it. Its shocking that there have been around 8 major releases since November and two of them have been about gay and lesbians. It can be coincidence that by chance both films release in a certain period but it will look to family audiences that the Hindi film industry keeps on churning stuff out on these topics and keep them away from cinemas.
