Badhaai Do Review: The Acting By Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar And Ensemble Is Extraordinarily Effective
Box Office India Trade Network

The first day collections of BADHAAI DO will come in the 1.50-1.75 crore nett range with Mumbai and Delhi/UP circuits looking to contribute around 1 crore nett. The number looks low but its pretty much par for the course if you consider the LQBQT theme of the film, no night shows in most states and limited awareness that films have started to release again in theatres.

If night shows had been there, it could have been a near 2 crore nett opening which would have been better than many Rajkummar Rao starrers pre covid. There were night shows only in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and South. The bigger question for these films is can they go on from the first day and that has been the problem for these films with mainly a metro audience post Covid-19.

The bulk of the audience has come from Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkatta and Bangalore. In Mysore circuit it is almost the same as CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI which did 13 lakhs nett and BADHAAI DO has done 12 lakhs nett. In West Bengal, this film has done 9 lakhs and CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI did the same number.

The theme of the film like CHANDIGARH KARE AASHIQUI is a huge issue for the film as it is for a limited audience and if that big weekend growth does not come, then this theme will have a lot to do with it. Its shocking that there have been around 8 major releases since November and two of them have been about gay and lesbians. It can be coincidence that by chance both films release in a certain period but it will look to family audiences that the Hindi film industry keeps on churning stuff out on these topics and keep them away from cinemas.
